The Plane of Forciti. Part 1: Nature.

edited January 2017 in Custom Card Sets
The Plane I created is right now called Forciti. Yes I know the name sucks, but I am terrible at coming up with names. When I can't think of a name I always start by writing a word backwards and using that (Like I did with my username). In this case I spelled Plane backwards and got Enalp, which is pretty much the worst plane name possible. So then I did what I always do when that fails. And combined two words. So I combined Forest and City and got Forciti.

In this plane there are ten factions, each a different 2-color combination like Ravnica, except this plane is very different than Ravnica. First off, Ravnica was a city plane, but Forciti is a plane with a large forest surrounded by smaller forests, fields, and some cities and towns. The cities are actually city-states (Certa being the largest) and are scattered throughout the country side.

The ten factions of Forciti are separated into three main groups. One is the Nature factions which include: g/r, g/u, g/b, g/w. The second is the City factions which include: b/w, b/u, u/w, r/w. And finally the Outcasts which are r/u and r/b.

The only factions I've worked on so far are the Nature factions. Detailed Info about each faction are in the comments.

Here are some of the cards I have made:

The rest of the set so far can be found here:

This discussion is for people to give opinions on the set. Not for entries.

A contest series about the set will probably start soon (after my team challenge is done) and the winners from that will be able to enter cards into the set if they want.

    Name: Ukara

    Subfaction: Chaos

    Colors: r/g

Animals (each forest faction has its own animals): Beasts, boars, the Deepwoods creatures, more.

Info: Ukara consists of satyr and human shamans and druids that summon beasts using magic. Most Ukarans can only summon common forest beasts, but a few powerful shamans (like sauruk) can summon the creatures of the Deepwoods (large, mostly unknown, and immensely powerful creatures from the innermost areas of the forest.)
Ukaran shamans enjoy causing chaos and havoc to the other inhabitants of the forest and to the inhabitants of the various towns and cities. They are the loudest noises in an otherwise quiet forest.

Abilities and mechanics: Trample, reach, the normal r/g abilities. Roar- whenever a creature with cmc 4 or greater enters the battlefield under your control [effect]. Also, ramp, mana dorks, and buffing creatures. Lots of effects that care about high cost and high power creatures.

Role in Forest: Ukara's role isn't as important as the other nature factions, but important nonetheless. Ukara controls the top of the food chain, they keep the smaller animal populations in check while also making Outcast and City trespassers less common because they are scared of Ukara.

    Name: Jya

    Subfaction: Peaceful

    Colors: g/w

Animals: Small and/or gentle animals (Squirrels, birds, mice, deer, etc.)

Info: The Jya is sort of the religious faction of the forest. It consists of the "spirit" of nature; the trees, plants, and small animals are all part of Jya. Jya include treefolk, plants, and dryads. This is the most peaceful faction of the forest, welcoming to all including city folk and even Outcasts. One tree from Jya (Kyata) has become known as the tree of life and is worshipped as a deity by many members of the forest.

Abilities and Mechanics: Unlike Selesnya, which relied on populating large tokens) the Jya focus on getting out as many small tokens as possible to trigger propagate as many times as possible. Token mostly include: 1/1 green Squirrel, 1/1 white Bird with flying, and 2/2 green Elk creatures tokens. Propagate- Whenever a creature token enters the battlefield, [effect].

Role in Forest Jya has, undoubtedly, the most important role of the forest (Mostly because it literally is the forest.) The Jya absorb the sun's energy to provide food to the animals of the forest. And provides the animals that are at the bottom of the food chain.

    Name: Floraga

    Subfaction: Peaceful

    Colors: u/g

Animals: Aquatic animals (Amphibians, Turtles, Alligators, Fish)

Info: The Floraga comprise mainly of Elves who tend to the wildlife of the forest. They hunt small animals for food, but make sure they aren't over hunted by humans. The Floragan Elves are part of a complex society that lives throughout the forest. They have leaders and specialists in many fields and frequently trade with the Cityfolk. Although the Elves are weary of Human encroachment, they do welcome some humans who have respect for the forest and wish to live among them.

Abilities and Mechanics: Counter theme, although more of a flora counter instead of +1/+1 counter theme. Natural (When you cast the spell you may pay [X], if you do, it enters the battlefield with X flora counters on it.) Flora counters do various things. It depends on the permanent. There are also a lot of ways to move flora counters among permanents.

Role in Forest: The Floraga are the civilization of the forest. They are what interact the most with outsiders. They, along with the Ukara, are the main forces combatting outsider encroachment.
They also tend to the plants and animals of the forest.

    Name: Mycor

    Subfaction: Peaceful

    Colors: g/b

    Animals: Fungi, Insects, similar creatures

Info: The black/green combination may seem like an evil faction, but in the forest it isn't. The Mycor are a civilization of Fungi living in the undergrowth. Most Mycor are small, staying out of the way, but a few (including the royal lineage which Raspora is a part of) are large and important figures who interact with the rest of the forest's factions.

Abilities and Mechanics: Fungus tribal. Lots of 1/1 black and green Fungus creature tokens and lots of sacrifice effects. Mold N (To mold N, put N spore counters on target permanent. That permanent has "When this permanent dies, create X 1/1 green and black Fungus creature tokens." For as long as it has a spore counter on it.)

Role in Forest: The Mycor have a very important role in the forest, the same role fungi occupy in real life. And that is decomposition. They decompose dead organic material into nutrients that are used by the Jya.
  • I've made so many creatures, now I'm working on spells http://mtgcardsmith.com/user/Rednaxela/sets/17713?page=4

I will probably start making contests soon. One for each faction. And the winners will be able to enter a specified number of cards into the set.
  • basic design proposal:

Make it four forest factions (green with the four other colors) and four city factions (blue with the four other colors), but then you've got just seven factions total, because "Simic" (green blue) would have kind of a mediator role in this setting. So you're left with three outcast factions that are neither green nor blue: WB, WR and BR. You can put the flavor on it. If we stick with the ravnican interpretation, WB could be outcasts because they are clerics in faraway monasteries, WR could be renegades revolting against the system and having their own view on laws and society (those intentions could be "good" or "bad" or the faction is split into many points of view only united by the fact that they disagree with the status quo), BR could just be scum (cannibals or something like that).
  • @Feyamius thanks for your suggestion. I will consider it. I haven't done much for City or Outcasts yet.
  • @Rednaxela
You are looking for more than just creatures, yes? I can work up some sorcery or instants
  • @obsidianhoax yeah that would be helpful. Make sure to look at the lists I provided on the other thread that show how much of each rarity I need.
