Worldbuilder #2 - Namarune, Age of Monoliths

Worldbuilder is a series of chain contests, the first being Khare, in which the cardsmith community create cards for a world concept.

Namarune, a world crafted by the hands of a thousand warriors, from the great forest of gnarled limbs and twisted roots Mounrgaar, to the Golden Steppes of Kotun-Vaan, Namarune is a world of beauty, horror and treachery.

image

NOTE: This is a very similar contest to my other one, Khare the Great Cityport, and is to some degree a follow-up after the cardsmith community lost interest in that one. But don't worry, they are two completely separate threads.

A diverse world, Namarune is a place torn apart by civil war. For years, brother was pitted against brother, friend against friend until finally, the great warlord Rynia managed to seize the place for himself. Now, he rules comfortably over the world, although rebellions are breaking out everywhere as would-be-rulers emerge and are slain.

So, what is your mission? In this contest, you are to create this world by following up on the last card posted, with a short passage about how your card relates to the last one. We shall be starting, naturally, with the great warlord who has managed to take control of the world, Rynia:

image

It will now be your job to create one or more card(s) relating to him, giving a short blurb to all of them collectively. Here is mine on Rynia:

"Lord Rynia, so called King of the Open Realm, achieved the unachievable: he managed to resurrect the Namarunian monarchy, placing himself on the throne as the first on the bloodline. He resides in the great golden steppes, where he also looks over the many warriors whom obey him unquestionaingly." It doesn't have to be that complicated!

It then be your job to create a card related to Rynia, for example, a man who murders him.

Rules:
- As many entries as you want, although please don't spam.
- Don't make two entries in a row.
- Please write a short paragraph/couple of sentences explaining how your card relates to the last card made, and it would be helpful if you could say where the cards belong on the map (Rynia, for example, belongs in the centre of the Golden Steppes).
- Any card type.
- You may make as many cards as you like leaving off the last card.
- Please make sure someone can lead off your card.
- Only NEW cards.

Prizes:

1st place: Three favourites and a follow from one of my alt accounts. You will also have the opportunity to influence what map I should use for the next "worldbuilder" contest. Your card will also be featured in a short story/passage about Namarune, and you will get to choose and honourable mention.

2nd place: Two favourites and a follow from one of my alt accounts. Your card will also be featured in a short story/passage about Namarune.

3rd place: A favourite and a follow from one of my alt accounts. Your card will also be featured in a short story/passage about Namarune.

Honourable mention: A favourite from one of my alt accounts.

The Sightless are is a cult that holds great sway on the steppes of Kotûn-Vaan, where it is considered to be the only true religion. Raskara is the current leader of the cult, and a king can only rule in the area if he approves of him, otherwise, he will incite the citizens to rebellion. Rynia is the only king who has attempted to rule in recent years whom Raskara has approved of, and as long as Rynia can keep his favor, the people will unquestioningly follow him.

Can't really think about the lore. Mainly, she's a leader of the rebels. You can make the lore if you want.
  • Oooooooooh, yay! Khare, the Great Cityport hath been resurrected in the form of an entire plane!!!!!!!

While division continues to drive Namarune apart, the southern rulers begin to appoint Protectors to watch over the land, a military and religion based government to keep at bay the growing dissonance.

Seira, born at the Skyshrine Temple had fled with her family from the north once war broke out to seek protection from the ensuing chaos. Rynia, now self appointed ruler of Namarune has begun to reach out to the south with intentions of quelling any and all opposition, dissension and rebellion and Seira may be one of the keys to doing so. However, she has gained the attentions of more than just he, as Pari Run casts an eye over the Vale.

I boisterous group, referring to themselves as "The Clanmates", take it upon themselves to initiate small battles from time to time just for the fun of it. Logic is lost upon and among these downtrodden males. Clanmate Forrs likes to take a leading role, though one could hardly say that the other Clanmates were being lead. Since they aren't fighting for land, wealth, or power, they're never greatly impacted by victory or defeat, they merely live for the lust of the brawl.

It is thought that this group played a part in the warfare near the Skyshrine Temple that caused Seria and family to flee. They shelter most often in the Windraptor Gorge near Nitza.

Thousands of people from all over Namarune whose homes are ravaged by sinister groups like "The Clanmates" don't have the luxury to flee somewhere nearby as Seria and her family did. Instead they simply run into the Chavat Weald for shelter out of the open plains and ambush ridden mountains. Because of this, the Chavat Weald has become known as a place of refugees, bandits, and the homeless. This makes Chavat Weald an ideal place for new aspiring individuals to start their following and begin their own personal journey toward power. All it takes is a promise of retaking one's home or simply hinting revenge to get the villagers of the Weald to flock to you in droves.

Main Character: Averna, Leader of Raptures.
    Area: Black Sands of Ahtuk.

    image

Lore: Introduction to the Cult of Averna.
Among the Black Sands of Ahtuk, Averna is a leader of a cultist group with influence spread across the neighbouring regions. Averna has been collecting the remains of various peoples across the nearby areas of Namarune. He has been forming a shrine of sorts with unknown purpose. All that is apparent is that Averna must have something planned for the shrine like resurrections placed among the region of Ahtuk.

With little insight on the inner workings of this cult banding, Averna is a mysterious individual. Although, he is far from the only person with plans among Namarune!

Main Character/Focus: The Angels Above Ahtuk/Archangel Razek
Area: The Black Sands of Ahtuk
    image
Lore: Introduction to the Archangels of Ahtuk.
"Although treachery and lies are abundant in Namarune, particularly in those so venomous lands The Black Sands, Rynia's forces are not absent - no indeed. Legions of angels, the scourges of all evil, patrol the skies, hunting out all of those cultists and slaying them.

"'So called "knights and warriors" who sit in their castles with their feet up in front of the roaring hearth do nothing,' their mysterious leader, Archangel Razek has been known to proclaim. 'True warriors lead heroic charges, and seek out evil wherever is may be, smiting cultists and traitors and painting the lands red in their blood just to warn others against trying the same things they did.'"

    Main Character: Selena, Arcane Analyst.
    Area: Chelonean Grove.

    image

Lore: Introduction to Selena and her Arcane pact.
Among the many groups in the plane of Namarune we have a lady by the name of Selena who is an analyst upon various phenomenon. Her group is scouring to find more information to restoring the full extents of the group's arcane abilities. Even though they are a positive effort upon bringing order among Namarune, they still provide a threat to those foolish enough to seek them as anything but an ally.

This group is more towards pacifism and has similar beliefs to the druid following among the neighboring regions. It is known that the forest holds many secrets needed by the group. Although, they will have to travel to the various corners of Namarune in order to collect all the other supplies they need!

Selena and her band of Archaeomancers have heard light of some plans Averna has in the region of Ahtuk. They're setting out on a voyage to the land to procure more information and ascertain the status of this feud between both cultists and angels. One thing certain is that if push comes to shove, which side should they best aid?

Although the card and lore is nice...That isn't really related to the last card very much.
  • No problem, I'll fix it!
  • Fixed the post to add appropriate details! :)

Main Character: Palroth, the First Brother.
    Area: Khamunaten
    image

Backstory: During the civil war, brother really was pitted against brother as the fight for the rule of Namarune was between two brothers and their armies. After Rynia unexpectedly took the throne while the brothers were fighting, the two brothers were forced to claim what land the had left and protect it. Palroth claimed Khamunaten, and that is where he remains.

Current plot: After hearing a rumor that some unwanted visitors (Selena and her band of Archaeomancers) were heading to the Black Sands of Ahtuk, Palroth gave the order to reinforce the fortress walls just in case war broke out. Palroth knows of what lives in Ahtuk and like many other places that border Khamunaten, he fears what they are capable of...

The Black Sands of Ahtuk are home to an army of Spirit Elemental Sand Warriors who terrorized the world long before the Brother's War. Now, as rebellious leaders look for help, these powerful yet mysterious beings begin to appear around Khamunaten, and even as far north as the River Ithramong. No one knows what their motives are, except that they can't possibly be good.
  • How I love entering my own contests XD

Main Character/Theme: The Glass Castle of the Burning Wastes
    Location: The Burning Wastes
    image
Lore: Yet these Elemental Warriors are perhaps being drawn towards a more sinister force: the great glass castle of the burning wastes. Slowly, these warriors trek across the Black Sands to this great, shimmering stronghold, said to be the home of a powerful sorcerer. Is it just the light dancing upon whatever it is made out of, or is the castle really moving?

Note: Haven't been on cardsmith in an age and so aren't very practised, however this seems awesome so i'll give it a shot!

    Character: Sand Shifter
    Allegiance: Ancient Ahtuk Empire

    Card:

    image
    LORE:

The Sand Shifters and Warriors of Ahtuk appear to be the true natives of the black desert, perhaps an old ancient empire, but either way, they have a strong vendetta against the new Namarunian King. Despite the Cultists atempt to subdue the Ancient Empire and the ever vigilant Archangels trying to destroy these silent warriors, they still persist from their underground temples and catacombs.

As the elemental warriors make their way North, they have been accompanied by their dark masters, these "Sand Shifters" are at the forefront of any siege, blinding the enemies fortification and weakening their defences. recently these silent mages have taken a keen interest in the Glass Castle of the Burning Wastes, whatever evil lurks within will surely begin a battle of the ages.

NOTE TO THE PERSON WHO CREATES THE NEXT CARD: My advice would be to create the Lord of Terror which is meant to be inside the Glass Castle which is the one above mine, whether it is the evil sorcerer or another more darker power that's up to you, or you can ignore my advice, it doesn't really matter, good luck either way :D

Note to @KJMartin: I hope you don't mind if I create my own cards in this plane but not submit them? Just as a side project for when i have a eureka moment

I dunno if I can do this, and while this isn't a submitted card (so don't base your new card on this one!) I've created another card with more Lore to this so-called "Ancient Ahtukan Empire", check it out here if you want inspiration for an Ahtuk card of your own!

Credit to @gterww123 for giving me the inspiration to create this card!
  • @hivelord3
    Yeah, sure, whatever you want!
  • @KJMartin Awesomesauce dude, thanks!

    Character: Osorsen, Lord of Terror
    Allegiance: Ancient Ahtuk Empire

LORE: Osorsen is the ruler of the Ahtuk Empire and the resident of the Castle of Glass. He has been sleeping for over a thousand years after being imprisoned in the castle, with his warriors either sleeping alongside him, or rising from their graves to fend of intruders. Now he has returned after his long slumber and is ready to take over the plane of Namarune.

He also seeks revenge on Rynia after his ancient ancestor, Damarus imprisoned him. He wants Namarune to be cleansed of Rynia's rule, believing it is the best path for Namarune's future.

If it comes up to war, Osorsen is willing, no matter the cost.

    CARD: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/osorsen-lord-of-terror
  • Main Character: Dargia, Prophet of Osorsen
    Area: The Castle of Glass

    image

Dargia, Prophet of Osorsen has warned his master of the forces heading towards their castle, Osorsen is not concerned about this. He has one many wars on his own. However Dargia foresaw many people, potentially an army, he could not be sure. Osorsen is ready for anything.

-Flavor text has minor lore as well-
  • edited February 2017
Wait, so is the army approaching the Glass Castle approaching for a good reason because Osorsen is their leader? Because the next card says the army approaching is evil, the second card is also affiliated with Osorsen but has a different colour to him... I'm very confused right now :D

EDIT: Figured it out, They're all allied to Osorsen and are part of his castle! Ignore my stupidity!
  • edited February 2017
    Area: Deshirak, the Burning Wastes
    image
Dargia was right about an army marching for the Castle of Glass. The battle-hungry people of Deshirak are not content with the "Lord of Terror" living in their midst. The sand shifters appearing in their lands are driving them insane. They must destroy that which is causing them so much stress. They must rid their land of the scourge that is Osorsen.

    Let's keep this train going:
    Card:

    image

Anubrians are masters in the ways of combat and embrace their Gods Mal'Chite (God of Moon and Darkness) and Lor'Noth (God of the sun and purity) in the form of war. Being nigh impossible to kill protectors and in the blink of an eye, becoming deadly assassins. The Anubians have been long allied with Osorsen and are ready to defend his castle and strike at these foolish attackers who believe their dark master is weaker.

However the tide has seemingly turned against both the Deshirak and the Ahtukans as the clouds go dark with the wings of the angels who have raised their arms against both of the warring nations. Only time will tell who will win this newfound battle.
  • Side note how do you post the image of your card? I've tried checking but I don't know how! Thanks

    @hivelord3 use this format:
for the "link here" part, simply copy and past the link to your card, as you did for Ahtuk Anubrian.
for "image link here," rightclick the thumbnail of your card on your "Cards" page and press "copy image address". then paste.
