@EmolgAn The tides are whipping hard against the boat as your make your way through the ocean. You had heard rumors of a treasured pearl on the island of Speen in Aesthr. However, it is protected by Merfolk that threaten to kill any sailer that comes into contact with them.

The Red Flag arrives at the north side of the island. Your crew disembarks, and you begin your search, both for the pearl and the Merfolk, but you find neither. The island seems completely abandoned, and there are footprints leading inside a rock formation. You investigate, and find the Merfolk you heard mention of slain on the floor. Flintlock shots. Sword slashes. And a pedestal that looks like it’s missing something...

“Craft in the distance!” One of your crew members, left with the ship, have spotted a vessel heading towards the east. Whatever was here is apparently gone, so you leave to pursue the vessel.

    One hour later

    Challenge One

You are catching up to the vessel, but the crew of it has noticed. Passing by Padetra, the crew attempts to turn the vessel, revealing a set of three small cannons on the Starboard. Both of your ships raise their flags simultaneously, and it’s very apparent that a battle is about to begin...

    image

Make a card capable of dealing with the ship. Points will given based on how well your response works against the enemy, as well as the realism of the card and how it suits your character’s colors and ideals.

You entry will be scored from 0-15. Any score below a ten will count as a miss; however, since this is your first challenge, you will not take damage or significant losses.

    Criteria:
    • 5 points for overall effect and balancing.
    • 4 points for realism, following color pie, and proper rarity. You may lose a point if the effect of the card is unclear.
    • 3 points for fitting the colors and themes of your character (RB Rakdos)
    • 2 points for if the card would realistically do anything against the target cards in an actual game of Magic.
    • 1 point for flavor (text not required; mainly checking if overall fell of the card fits its art, name, etc.).
    • You will lose three points if the entry is not new.
    • You cannot submit any card you’ve submitted so far for this contest.

    < WRONG BUTTON LOL >
  • @TezzeretofCarmot21 Ending up in Duskwood Territory, you are immediately confronted by the Duskelf.

“Don’t move! State your name and your purpose.” As you wake up, you see an elf pointing a lance towards your neck. Just... a moment ago, you were trapped in the... no. Something’s not right here. In front of you lies a gigantic tree, somewhat similar in stature to the Great Tree, but it is different. Is this a twisted afterimage? Are you dead?

You introduce yourself to the elf, and she is puzzled. “So... you are Bloodwood then?” You can feel the lance begin to nick your neck as the elf presses it against you. “You should be dead...”

The elf attempts to impale you with the lance, but you catch it with your hands. The elf suddenly stops. “Your insignia. Where is it?” Your... insignia? You do not bear one. Your devotion was to the Great Tree. You don’t know who these Bloodwood people are. “Likely excuse... You’re coming with me.”

“High Duskelf Chalantra. A mysterious intruder.” You are restrained as you are brought into the High Duskelf’s chambers, in the top of the Duskwood Hometree. “He calls himself Zakarias. He says he’s... an Elder Monk to... something called the Great Tree. When I found him he was asleep on the ground.”

“This is very strange indeed.” Chalantra’s voice rings through the chambers. You can tell she has a wound from an arrow near her heart. “Tell me... why are you here?”

You honestly don’t know yourself. Just a moment ago you were caught in a burning blaze from a ritual gone wrong.

“Caught in a blaze... this seems to be adding up too well against you. Only Bloodwood practice shamanic arts, and just recently, the Bloodwood Territory was set on fire by Arne, and everyone there burned to death with the tree. Judging by your appearance, I’d say you’re a lucky lich, but you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time. Anya, send him to interrogation.”

“Surely, madame.” The elf, accompanied by two armored guards, carry you all the way back down to the bottom of the Hometree, around the back, and down a small staircase to what appears to be a jailing area. You are taken into one of the cells, and are locked inside as you are interrogated. They ask you about all sorts of trivial matters. Your home. Your past. What happened moments before your ended up here. Eventually, Chalantra is escorted into the room.

“So... judging by what my people have told me, you must be a planeswalker, yes? In that case, there is no need to bind you in a cell when you can just escape. Anya..... take him downstairs.”

    Challenge One

You are dragged into an even darker area than before. A stone lies in the center of a very dark cavern, and you are placed upon it.

“Do not worry, traveler... we will not be killing you directly... a divination will be performed. If your innocence is true, you will survive.”

Suddenly, vines grow from the ground, and form a being in front of you, ephemeral, but tangible.

“Traveler... I sense you are not here by your will. I am Sprot, the Goddess of Nature on this plane. If you can provide me with a single piece of evidence that you do not mean harm against these people, I will let you live...”

Make a card displaying a symbol of allegiance to your faction. Points will given based on how well your response works against the enemy, as well as the realism of the card and how it suits your character’s colors and ideals.

You entry will be scored from 0-15. Any score below a ten will count as a miss; however, since this is your first challenge, you will not take damage or significant losses. This is non-combat scenario, so effectiveness against a target will not be judged.

    Criteria:
    • 6 points for overall effect and balancing.
    • 5 points for realism, following color pie, and proper rarity. You may lose a point if the effect of the card is unclear.
    • 3 points for fitting the colors and themes of your character (BRG Jund)
    • 1 point for flavor (text not required; mainly checking if overall fell of the card fits its art, name, etc.).
    • You will lose three points if the entry is not new.
    • You cannot submit any card you’ve submitted so far for this contest.
  • @EpicBoss99 @Bowler218 Joseph has been walked out of the medical room. Rafael is still trying to figure out what just happened, and Niyan is mildly upset. Sure, his injury is mild enough so that it will not effect his regular activities, but he secretly wishes the strange man would come back to heal him.

“Now. Are you done interfering?” Arne lets go of Joseph, but blocks the doorway to the medical area. Verth and Vryx are with him. Arlin is talking to one of the elves, and Joseph is breathing heavily again.

“I’m... I’m sorry. It’s just... If I see a person in need that isn’t getting the help they deserve, I feel like I need to act.” Joseph is starting to calm down from his outburst. This makes two in thirty minutes. Thankfully, that anger hasn’t been physically directed at a person, but it’s very apparent that Joseph has a volatile emotional state.

“I’ll admit. I feel that way sometimes too. Sorry if I hurt you, anyways.”

“Apology accepted. Sorry if I seem like a bit of an ***. I’ve had a bit of a temper my entire life. I got it from ever member of the family...” Joseph walks towards the rest of the group. “Anyways, I came here to get something, so I’ll leave once I grab it. Again, I’m sorry...”

“Stay safe... may the Six watch over you.”

On that notion, Joseph shakes his head and walk away.

You arrive in the High Dawnelf’s Chambers. Arlin is hiding in Thylinder again, as she does not want to chance Madame Brocara seeing her.

“Hello Joseph! And Verth. I see you brought someone with you. You said this was Vryx, Verth?” Verth confirms this. “Very well. What brings you in here today, Joseph.”

Joseph bows to one knee. “Your Brightness. A few months back I asked you to keep a set of artifacts secured for me until I needed them. I have come to collect them.”

“Very well. Refi! Fetch this man his things from the depository!” A handsome elf, well dressed, leaves the room, and five minutes later, he comes back with two things and hands them to Joseph; a gold and blue timepiece, and another ring, this time much more vibrant, but still silver tinted. You could not get a good enough glance to see its material. Joseph carefully puts these things in a pouch of his massive coat, and it is time to leave.

“So. Now that we’re done, it’s time to rock. I need to grab a few things from my house... and maybe this time I’ll actually remember my freaking canteen.”

It is currently 4 PM. Since Joseph can vouch for Verth if anything happens, and he uncovered his secret when he read his soul, you can travel by air. It takes an hour to get from area to area. Tell Joseph where you’d like to go.

    Information to go by:
    - Timothy lives in the South according to his friend, who strangely died from a curse upon attempting to communicate this information.
    - Joseph lives in the South, and needs to be there by 7 so he can prepare his bindings.
    - The West side of Racrion has been searched completely.
    - Only one house in Eastern Racrion has been searched.

The strange man is gone. Rafael is still trying to figure out what in the world just happened. A man rushed in, seemingly insane, and although painful, healed his wound completely, something which the right hand of the gods was unable to do. Every minute, he gets more and more convinced that this world is crazy...

Niyan, meanwhile, is starting to feel better, although, he still has a wound that needs healed. The stranger was unable to touch his wounds before being dragged out of the room by Arne. Speaking of Arne, it seems as though he convinced the stranger to leave. He comes back into the room to check on you two.

“Let’s make sure this lunatic didn’t mess anything up. Let’s see...” Arne walks over to Rafael, and he holds his hand to where the wound used to be. “...how... how is this possible? What sort of technique did this man use, to fully mend this wound when healing magic fails? That auramancer has more secrets than I thought. So, Rafael... how are you feeling?”

The wound still burns from where Joseph performed his spell. There is a bit of blood from where it trailed to his vial. But overall, the wound has, in fact, completely healed. Rafael doesn’t feel where the hole in his chest ever existed, only a minor burning sensation.

“Good... I was highly concerned for you. I thought you were going to die. After all you’ve done, you’ve shown you still have faith in the...” Arne notices that Rafael’s sigil is gone. “...Rafael? What happened? Your sigil, it’s-“

Rafael explains how he was offered a promotion to Retributionist Status, and how he turned it down, stepping down as a Lord Arbiter in the process.

“R-Rafael... Why? I thought we were allies. Why did you abandon your duty? What compelled you to betray them?”

Rafael was tired of being a slave. He wanted control over his life. He had done so much to help everyone, and yet, there was so much he couldn’t do because of his duty.

“...Very... very well... It’s a great shame to me. It was my idea to promote you to Retributionist after all. I feel betrayed. Anyways... with this in mind, I must leave you to yourself. I cannot be seen giving aid to the likes of you.”

Arne stomps over to Niyan. “As for you... I see you have... a special possession on you.” Arne grabs something from Niyan’s belt. What is that? Is that... Ysa’s Divining Skull?! “Come with me. If you have been bestowed with this, then fate has something major in mind for you...”

Arne leaves the room with Niyan...

@sanjaya666 @Fallen_Lord_Vulganos You are now free to do as you please. Where would you like to investigate?

@Aggroman15 Your conversations with Arne will be carried out through PMs.
  • @MonkeyPirate2002

“K’Trinop. To recover from this attack, your spirit will need time. It left scars on your very essence. Most unusual, it is, for a god’s power to be wielded by a mortal. I sincerely hope, that the gods are not much more powerful. I have not seen an underling with this much power.”

Otaimo leads the way as you fly out of the museum. You are fairly sure you’ve seen everything important.

“Um, sir! You shouldn’t be here! The museum is closed!” Unlike you, Otaimo’s form is very much tangible, and the guard sees him walking past.

“I walk where I want, mortal. Rest assured, that I see no threat to this building I have not already dealt with.” Otaimo doesn’t even stop to look at the guard as he keeps walking. The guard draws his sword and runs towards him threateningly.

“Stop and state your business here!”

“I... am Otaimo. When I speak to you, you may respond only if I ask. When I leave, you may remain silent. Otherwise, to save my friend was my business. To think, the gods of your world would most unjustly attack him, unprovoked.”

“Otaimo, sir? That name sounds foreign. I’m gonna need to check you in with the- AH!”

In a flash, the guard’s sword shatters into pieces. You didn’t even see anything, only Otaimo’s hand at his side before the shattering of the blade.

“I will not be coming with you. We will be leaving.” You follow Otaimo out of the building. The guard barely sees you as you fly past, and he shudders. “Thank your gods I only broke your blade. The rest of you could of easily broken with it.”

“O-okay sir! You- have a good- rest of your night!”

“Fear... they shall know. Fertile... it shall grow. Now that I would be with you, we shall clean this filthy world, and restore your status...”

“Wicked angels... what in the name of our creation has been done to cause this?!” You and Otaimo found a hideaway on a rooftop. Inside are angel feathers. Plans for a heist. “This room is heavy with vice. Every second I live in this world is one less day I want to give it. These are not gods. Their own kind reeks with sin!”

You travel to Nutheport together, taking care of the occasional crime. “The spirit of a cleric... I feel its trail here. And yet, it is a trail of sin. Blood arts were performed to preserve his soul. And he has taken the body of a demon...” The sheath of Otaimo’s blade glows red. “Is the religion here really so amok with invalidity? Here we are, in the place of the law. And only the laws of the wicked govern this city. Can we please leave? My blade cannot stand this place any longer. It craves the vengeance of the masses. Every lost soul here wants justice. Justice never delivered...”

Right now, there is no way you would be able to take on the Six. You are too weak, and only have one ally. You could either focus on growing stronger and uncovering the whole truth of your past, or you could focus on traveling the land, looking for allies.
  • What would you like to do @Bowler218 ? I think spending an hour finishing up the search at the East and then heading South for 7 might work.
  • That sounds good.
  • @EpicBoss99 @Bowler218

“That sounds fine. Just... make sure to keep that canteen full, ‘cause I’m dying of thirst over here.”

This will be continued in PMs

The once immortal angel was wandering on a solemn path, while was also being as inconspicuous as possible for he was wearing a simple cloak along with a little bit of provisions he actually obtained from some underhanded means.

Everything was falling apart. His life, the people around him, and more importantly, his once unwavering faith to do something for the betterment of many.

Was that because of his own selfish desire? Or was it because of the curse?

'Sin will run to them, tainting their lives and destroying their faith. Those that do not die outright go insane, eventually succumbing to the...'

Again and again, he knew that he would never forget those words from that apparently disappointed diviner.

Too many had been disappointed by him in such a short time.

But the former archangel only frowned.

'Don't ever try to please everyone, again. From now on, think only for yourself.'

In addition of it, his stomach grumbled for being a mortal one had to fulfill the self's sustenance constantly. By eating regular foods and drinking clean water, or maybe some alcoholic beverages.

'Tis' such a bother. No wonder common folks are easily mad over such thing like a destroyed cabbage carriage.'

He smirked with a frown plastered on his face still. Then he just laughed and fell to his knees, and he wept silently, with both his eyes closed.

"Truly, I am getting insane already." He whispered to himself.

(He still want to go to the Changing Arcanum, for that place is his only hope to obtain something meaningful for him.)
  • Enerew had nothing. His sword, his crew(you should really ask me to make them...) and his ship were all up above. All he had was his magic, the clothes on his back, and.... his powder horn. True, he had fallen through a chute and was currently standing on what looked to be a giant puddle, but these horns were made to be waterproof. He had refilled it just this morning, so it should be very effective. As the Merfolk drew closer, he gently unscrewed the cap on the bottom till it was almost off. When they were about five feet away, he flicked off the cap, threw the horn, sent a bolt of fire after it on a course to intercept, shouted "Catch!", and submerged himself. There was a great boom behind him, as the horn exploded in a beautiful ball of flames and shrapnel.

With Byro's new found glory and reputation, he feels quite overwhelmed. He does everything he can to keep to himself and treat those that need it. He is not a greedy man, but he is not an idiot when it comes to running a shop. Byro charges what the plagued family can pay at the time, keeping in mind the caste system; i.e lowly peasants almost free, or barter system, up to nobility with great wealth, and deep pockets. The plague doesn't discriminate, and neither will Byro.

Byro knows first and foremost the importance of that mystery stone, and that he needs more of it. He sets out to find the best alchemists and geologist in the lands in hopes they can tell him what it is, and where to find more.
  • "I don't get it," said Needlebite, one of Wosy's better behaved associates. "If we're comming in through the Divine Armory, why don't we just take everything that isn't nailed down and just leave? Nice clean and simple."

"It wouldn't be much use to either of us," Pathos said. "The weapons are specifically warded against demons, and I am obviously not in the demon slaying business." That got a couple of chuckles from the room. "Let's go through the plan again," Pathos said. The chuckles quickly turned into moans.

"I think everyone's got it Pathos," Wosy said.

Pathos started to protest, but stopped. Wosy had a better read on his crew than he did. If Wosy thought they were ready, they probably were. "Alright," he said. "Well than tonight, practice. Chertraum will be guiding you through each of your rolls in your sleep. Remember that this wont be a completly accurate depiction of the beyond, dreams are to nebulous for that, but it will be better than nothing. Sweet dreams everyone."
  • // Told you all I’d be busy this weekend :3

@DrakeGladis Merfolk have an innate weakness to fire. Even with their feet submerged in water, it will only do so much to protect them as they become dehydrated and burn. You realize you still have your powder horn, so you decide to turn it into an improvised explosive.

You decide to try and outsmart the merfolk. They are incredibly patient, and your attempts to goad them into attacking you are not working. You’ll need to get close, but not too close. You try to throw them off, but they don’t even flinch. Minutes have passed, and neither you or the merfolk have advanced. Eventually, a rim rises around the arena, and the flow of water to the outside stops. Then, the water in the center sinks, and a whirlpool forms. Your sea legs kick in, as both you and the merfolk attempt to stay upright, but it’s readily apparent that the merfolk are having a lot less difficulty than you. Water begins to run into the arena, and the current is picking up. You need to do something before you get swept away.

You start to lose your footing, even with your claws dug into the slick floor, and the merfolk take a chance to close in. One comes from one side, the other from the other. You rush forward and dodge, and this is as close as you can comfortably get. You light your powderhorn on fire, and toss it into the air at the merfolk. You slide close to the center, and hold on for dear life, praying the explosive goes off before it strike the ground as black powder rains from its spout...

    *BOOM*

The merfolk realize they’ve been outsmarted. All of the black powder in the keg explodes, raining fire. The explosion releases enough force to knock the merfolk down. One of them is impaled as their lance is launched through their skull. The other is helpless as the current catches them, and they are sent plummeting. The center of the arena closes, and the rim drops, reverting it back to normal as you emerge completely unscathed. You feel a slight motion, and the arena begins to rise. Onward to the next phase!

    Perfect Score!
    • 5 points for overall effect and balancing.
    • 4 points for realism, following color pie, and proper rarity. (Idk? They are insignificant in number, but there are black and red cards that do destroy blocking creatures. Attacking is aggro oriented, so I give the benefit of the doubt on this one.)
    • 3 points for fitting the colors and themes of your character (URG Temur)
    • 2 points for if the card would realistically do anything against the target cards in an actual game of Magic.
    • 1 point for flavor (text not required; mainly checking if overall fell of the card fits its art, name, etc.).

This plane doesn't have minotaurs, but my entry in the Pantheon challenge is a minotaur patron.
Note: Don't add minotaurs because I pointed it out. I would need to change my story.

    Nohel’s Trial - Phase Two

The arena continues to raise, and five shards emerge from the walls. Shards of ice. The arena eventually stops rising, flush with the shards, and it’s apparent that the arena will be surrounded by ice. As it touches the sides, it does not stop growing, and eventually, the entire arena is covered in a sheet of frost. The sudden temperature drop chills you to the bone, and you feel a debilitating cold on your neck. You turn, and find a being... vaguely familiar... but your don’t remember hearing about faeries, except in tales. You are surrounded by Faeries, and it seems as though they are trying to freeze you to death.

    image

Make a card to deal with five Sprites of Everwinter. Points will given based on how well your response works against the enemy, as well as the realism of the card and how it suits your character’s colors and ideals.

You are restricted. You can only submit monocolored cards that fit within your colors, and you cannot use the same color for two different cards in the trial, though cards that fail do not count towards this. You are limited to a cost of six converted mana total for each card, which includes its casting cost (and its equip cost if it’s an equipment.) If your card does not meet these restrictions, the card will fail, and you will take 3 damage.

You entry will be scored from 0-15. Any score below a ten will count as a miss, and you will take one hit for each point below 10 your score is. Your current HP is 10. All HP will be restored once you clear or fail this dungeon. You cannot escape, however.

    - You have submitted a red card. You only have green and blue left to work with in this trial.

    Criteria:
    • 5 points for overall effect and balancing.
    • 4 points for realism, following color pie, and proper rarity. You may lose a point if the effect of the card is unclear.
    • 3 points for fitting the colors and themes of your character (Temur)
    • 2 points for if the card would realistically do anything against the target cards in an actual game of Magic.
    • 1 point for flavor (text not required; mainly checking if overall fell of the card fits its art, name, etc.).
    • You will lose three points if the entry is not new.
    • You cannot submit any card you’ve submitted so far for this contest.

Hey I don’t have a challenge rn. Sorry if you know, was worried you forgot.

Those are a lot of corpses, I'm pretty sure those three crewmen make up for it.

I feel a lot safer now. I should be going to deliver this stuff to Treyble, once I get my reward, I can start looking for my old friends. Heavens, I don't even know where to start...

Perhaps Treyble knows where they are or something about religious orders, but even if I get a lead on them, it's gonna be suspicious that this giant monster is looking for some random group of clerics. I should cover it up with my own disapearance, If anyone asks, they sold me their friend's body and he pulled a trick on me, I'm just getting my money back from those idiots... Yeah... I hate overthinking stuff, focus Teil, I mean, Teegar.

Upon returning to his headquarters, Xataxji hurried to the central room of the ziggurat, the heart of his cult. It is filled with small altars of every shape and form, on each of which sticks of encense slowly burn away, filling the room with sweet-smelling smoke. Offerings of all kinds occupy receptacles on the sides of the altars. But Xataxji has no time for offerings. He reaches the center of the room, where he settles on colorful cushions set on a circular dais.

"Emergency meeting. Now," he barked out.

Immediatly, six summoning circles appeared around him. From them emerged a variety of individuals.
    image image imageimage image image

They all kneeled Xataxji, except Zarael, who simply kept her gaze on the ground.

The demon pretended not to notice. "Hrrm. We have a multiple of situations on our hands. My little whisperers have brought me sizeable information... and the news are, at best... not the best, in fact."

The others stayed silent. Their master was seldom worried or even preoccupied. They listened as Xataxji continued.

"Kazrhim." The fallen angel took a step forward. "I have news from the measly town of Panc. Apparently, someone found how to cure the Rotplague. This damned thing took eight years to elaborate. This will not do, my credibility is at risk. I want to know who, I want to know how, I want to know fast. Go. Now."

"As you command, my Lord," answered Kazrhim, before taking flight and swooping through the main entrance in the Padetran sky.

"Kregon." The mage and head of the cult approached.

"I listen and obey, my lord," he uttered.

"Good. Listen closely, then. Someone came on Stitia. Planeswalking, crossing a planar bridge, falling through an transdimensional fracture, I don't know. But he represents a non-negligible outside force, and could shift the balance of power. The whispers tell me he or she came in contact with the late archangel Rafael. His situation is too unclear for comfort. Take the Elite, and find out what is up with those to. Put an end to it if you must."

"The less players, the easier the game, master."

"Not always, Hugh. Go now. You have carte blanche."

"Very well." Calling for his chariot, the mage gathered his servants and left the ziggurat.

"Secundus, keep monitoring Padetra. Yggdralkin, head to Delvad. The whispers were obscure on this one, but I feel there are some looming shadows in these woods that require attention."

    The shaman bowed and left.

Only Zarael was left. The angel hadn't moved an inch. Xatxji slithered towards her, lowering his head to her level. "And you, my sweet Zarael, my little pet, you will do a bit of spying for us, hmm ? You see, a certain set of bones told us a story... about the Six..." The angel gasped, startled. "... and about a secret of theirs, or so it would seem."

"You... You want me to go back ? To them ? They will destroy me if I go back !" She was starting to panic.

"They won't. They don't remember you. Nobody does. You are nothing. I made sure of it. Now go. Follow the White Demon. Inflitrate Hitcherald. Find what the Six are hiding..."

"One day, this will come to an end. Your end," spat Zarael.

Xataxji hissed, and a purple sigil glowed on her wrist. She cried out in pain, taking a step back.

"You were foolish enough to come to me in the first place. Once you accept the seal, there is no going back. Now go.

The angel raised her chin high in defiance before complying.

Once he was alone, Xataxji returned to his cushioned dais.

Well, my pieces are in motion. Let's see how the game unfolds from now on.
