MY CHTHULU SET MORE INFORMATION!!! (IT DIDN'T DIE!!!)

edited December 2015 in Custom Card Sets
Sorry I have not been on for a while!(My account was malfunctioning for SUCH A LONG TIME!) However, I have NOT quit me Chthulu themed set idea! Thank you all for the support. First an foremost: Beeswax! Thank you for the AMAZING cards you have submitted here! Everyone else also thank you!

NOW! TO ANSWER A FEW QUESTIONS!

Austin Smith asked: "How are we going to submit cards? Post links under your Strange Aeons page? Or are we going to do it a different way?"

-Answer: Yes, please post the suggestions beneath my custom set called: Strange Aeons
(You can find it here: http://mtgcardsmith.com/user/Therussian58/sets/4131 )

Beeswax asked: "My other question is how much do you want to draw upon other MtG stuff, and how much do you want to draw on the work of HP Lovecraft and kin? Does this plane have a Miskatonic University? A town of Arkham? Are the GOOs called Ithaqua and Yog-Sothoth, or does the plane feature originals? On a smaller level, do we have Mi-go and Shoggoths? It's easy to just slip in references here and there in flavor text and so on, but do you want to go full-out with that?"

-Answer: Beeswax, I am quite familiar with the Cthulu lore, yet I have not recalled it for some time, so you will defiantly need to remind me of some aspects. To answer your questions: While I will be focusing on Lovecraftian themes quite a bit, I will NOT be using the EXACT names and locations as his works do. That said, I do expect A LOT of references and similarities, without fully making a lovecrarftian-based world. Think of this as steampunk meets Innistrad gothic horror, meets Lovecraftian gods meets the Eldrazi. Now, I looked over the lore I wrote up at the beginning of this discussion and got an idea! Seeing that we KNOW, that Koilzek returned to Zendikar in: Oath of the Gatewatch, (here is the spoiler: http://www.mythicspoiler.com/ogw/cards/kozilekthegreatdistortion.html ), my idea circulates around the fact, that after the Rise of the Eldrazi on Zendikar, while we don't know where Emrakul went, we know that Ulamog stayed on the plane. So, since after the defeat of Ulamog, Koilzek came back, Koilzek, was the enitity that was freed from the Mountains of Madness in the lore above. Please ask me if you are confused about any of this!

Also, one more thing, I DID decide that this will be a multi cardsmith project, I created an account for the set, as well as the ability for you to post your creations beneath my strange aeons set. What will end up happening, is that the breakup of commons, uncommon rares, mythics, factions etc, will happen on the custom account, while the full set, will be posted on my page, once its done.

Info on the custom account: ANYONE who is willing to contribute to the set, is definitely welcome to join. PLEASE do not delete ANYTHING, before its cleared with me and the cards creator.
To deal with recognition of who-made-what, I will be assigning roles for different factions colors etc. If you do not like what you are given, please tell me, and I will do my best to change your role.
A few things to ask, if you want people to favorite the cards that you made, but on YOUR account, make them on your account, AND on the set one.

THE ACCOUNT NAME IS: StrangeAeons
THE ACCOUNT PASSWORD IS: **PRIVATE MESSAGE ME FOR THE PASSWORD**
please say something if you have problems logging on!

Now, MORE LORE GALORE+(factions and who will be working on what...)
The first set will be focusing on THIS part of the lore:
Tezerret and Chandra are asked to help Darvin regain control over the crumbling ruins of his Empire, and to uncover what secrets lie beneath his cities and ports, in the Underground. They arrive to a scene of destruction, where Darvin's a sea monsters attack the port town. They then, set off to the underground, where they learn of the ancient beings that live beneath the icy depths of the northern pole of the plane. Ugin, helps the two planeswalkers through an artifact which they find within the Underground, and communicates with them, yet never visits the plane, as he is trapped on Tarkir, healing his wounds. Unknown to the planeswalkers, it is actually Bolas, not Ugin who advises them, and they end up aiding a cult in the release of an avatar of an eldritch deity.

There will be no actual elder-godlings, but monsters such as giant eldritch octopuses
and cultists WILL be present. The breakup of the first set will be:
MYTHIC RARES: 12
RARES: 40
UNCOMMONS: 64
COMMONS: 86
BASIC LANDS: 20
ALL TOGETHER: 222 CARDS!!!
ARE WE UP FOR IT??? I THINK SO!!!

Some of the Mythics are pre-determined, they are:
-Darwin-planeswalker
-Chandra-Planeswalker
-Tezzeret-Planeswalker
-The legendary artifact called the Tesseract, through which Nicol Bolas poses as Ugin, and communicates to Chandra and Tezzeret.

Now, the following cards HAVE to be mono-colored:

-Atlach Nacha-an eldritch spider, that reigns over the Underground: already made by Beeswax: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/atlach-nacha-world-weaver?list=user , but needs to be mono colored. (Black)

-Ugnarul, the Swamp Elder, an eldritch plant mage, that reigns over the remaining wilderness. Kind of made by me, but needs to be more powerfull and converted to a mythic rare. (Green)

Chothub-A gluttonous being, that reigns over the plains and cult politics of the plane.
(WHITE)

Ch-Ull, Reigns over the seas and oceans of the plains, begins the conflict by attacking ships and port towns. (BLUE)

Tsurathoth,Reigns over he Mountains and maddened rage. may or may not have already been made by Beeswax (again, here is the link: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/tsurathoth-the-mind-asunder?list=user ), but needs to be fixed into the right colors. (RED)

So... thats 9 down, and the other 3 are for you to decide...(they CANNOT BE LEGENDARY)

THANK YOU ALL OF THOSE WHO READ THIS EXTREMELY LONG AND MONOTONOUS MESSAGE, AND I HOPE THAT THIS SET WILL BE AMAZING ONCE ITS FINISHED. AGAIN, SORRY FOR THE WAIT, AND HAVE AN AMZING CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR!

NOTE: I ASLO POSTED THIS ON THE OTHER DISCUSSION ABOUT THIS SET, BUT I JUST WANTED TO BE SURE PEOPLE SAW!!!
If you can please post answers on the other page for my convenience, that would be great! Here is the link to the other discussion: http://forums.mtgcardsmith.com/discussion/875/my-new-chthulu-mythos-set#latest

PS: If you have any questions, please don't be afraid ask me on the other discussion!

  • I have a few concepts for Tsurathoth. I welcome opinions.

    Tsurathoth, the Mind Asunder 3RR
Players play with their hands revealed.
At the beginning of your upkeep, each opponent gets a madness counter. Pick a card in an opponent's hand for each madness counter they have, and one in yours. One of the cards, chosen at random, is discarded.
[You may repeat this process. If you do, pick another card in your hand each time.]
    5/4
I'm not sure about the bracketed part. Could be fun, but removes flavor text opportunities. Lots of random discard, which is always a party.

    Tsurathoth, the Mind Ablaze 3RR
At the beginning of your upkeep, each opponent gets a madness counter.
At the beginning of each upkeep, each opponent discards a card at random for each madness counter they have, then draws that many cards.
    5/4
that's a nice combo piece you've got there
it'd be a shame if something was to happen to it

    Tsurathoth, Hate Made Flesh 3RR
At the beginning of your upkeep, each opponent gets a madness counter.
You may choose a creature with a converted mana cost less than the number of madness counters its controller has. It fights each creature with the same controller.
    6/4
Seems really OP, but remember that there won't be many one drops rocking around on turn 5. You need to support it pretty hard, but if you happen upon a Sedge Scorpion, woe betide the enemies of the Hate Made Flesh.

If Atlach-Nacha is going to be the black GOO, it might be best to drop the spider aspect, since that's tied so heavily to the 'weaver of fate' concept, which is much bluer. That said, here are a few concepts

    Atlach-Nacha, the Ebon Thread 2BB
At the beginning of your upkeep, each opponent gets a madness counter.
You may cast creature spells from the graveyards as if they had unearth and were in your graveyard as long as their controller has more madness counters than their converted mana cost. Their unearth cost is {2}{b}.

    Atlach-Nacha, the Thread Cutter 2BB
{2}{b}: Target creature gains fading. Put a time counter on it for each creature card in its controller's graveyard. Activate this ability no more than once per turn.
Whenever an opponent gets a madness counter, you may remove a time counter from each creature they control.

    Atlach-Nacha, 2BB
At the beginning of your upkeep, each opponent gets a madness counter.
Whenever an opponent discards a card, if its converted mana cost is less than the number of madness counters they have, you may cast it or play it without paying its mana cost.
  • I'm bored, so I also made concepts for Ch-Ull.

    Ch-Ull, the Floodbringer 1UU
At the beginning of your upkeep, each opponent gets a madness counter.
Creatures you don't control whose controller has more madness counters than their power or toughness don't untap during their controllers' untap step.
    3/6

    Ch-Ull, the Weeping Sky 2UU
    Flying
At the beginning of your upkeep, each opponent gets a madness counter.
Creatures you don't control get -X/-0, where X is the number of madness counters their controller has.
    4/5

    Ch-Ull, the Tide Turner 2UU
At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, tap a nonland permanent they control for each madness counter they have.
    4/4
  • Beeswax thank you so much for your help! If you haven't yet gotten the password for the account, private message me! If you have and I just forgot, then by all means, START MAKING CARDS!
Here is one thing that I thought might be a good addition to these guys:
you can cast all of them for a madness cost, but the madness cost will have another color in it. For example, Atlach-Nacha, would have a madness cost I don't know, let's say of 1 colorless one black and one BLUE.

Here would be the color combos:
    -Ugnarul: Madness cost adds White
    -Tsurathoth: Madness cost adds Green
    -Ch-Ull: Madness cost adds Red
    Atlach-Nacha: Adds Blue
    -Chothub: Adds Black

Keep in mind that I am still perfecting them, and I really don't know which ones to mix...PLESE HELP!!!

I also decided one MAJOR thing...
The set is going to feature CONTRAPTIONS!!! If you don't know what contraptions are, it the following:

Contraptions are set up by riggers. Rigger, is a creature type. An example would be a Goblin Rigger...

Nobody actually knows how to set up a contraption, but since this is a community where you CREATE things, give it a try and see what you can come up with...

There has been a SINGLE card released featuring this ability, and still nobody is sure what to do with it...
    Here is the card:http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=136151

So............make up rules to make contraptions! They have to be tied to artifacts though, because as you know, these will be going into Darvin's steampunk faction.

Also, lore-wise, there is a new location of interest on the plane...THE SCRAPWALL!!!

The Scrapwall, is basically just a pile of metal scraps and other junk that is piled like a wall on the eastern side of the Capital City. The residents of this junkyard, are countless goblins, who all serve this mafia-like organization centered in the city. As you figured, most of the will be red, with small touches of other colors. The mafia is ruled by the Trade Prince: Gallywix, who basically runs the Scrapwall. Here, apart form the forges and factories is where you would find MOST of your riggers.

Hope the new post was helpful, and please ask if you have any questions (I know this is probably a little too disorganized so please ask if you don't understand.)

    -Happy Holidays, Therussian58!
  • Also, here are SOME of the other cards I will be planning to use, WITHOUT ANY CHANGES, with the permission of their creators...

    Sinister Shadows: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/sinister-shadows?list=user

    Cauldron Chanter: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/cauldron-chanter?list=user

    Brassarmor Axewielder: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/brassarmor-axewielder-1?list=user

Wrathful Destruction (I do want to change the flavor text for this one, so that it fits better with the storyline): http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/wrathful-destruction-1?list=user

    Unnatural End: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/unnatural-end?list=user

    Infested Wurm: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/infested-wurm-1?list=user

The Chromaboon (The only changes to THIS one, is the fact that I want to change it from a legendary to a normal creature): http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/the-chromaboon?list=user

    Molten Edict: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/molten-edict?list=user

These are the cards that MOSTLY don't need changes! This DOES NOT mean that I won;t be looking at other cards, it's just that these are the ones I saw first. For the ones that need small changes listed above, could the creator (or anybody really) link me the art, so that I can fix it...If ANY of the card's creator's are NOT okay with this set using your cards, please inform me!

    Happy Holidays
