What are your favorite songs?

edited May 2017 in Off-topic Chat
Hello fellow Cardsmiths, we're looking to broaden our horizons in regards to music and would like to hear the community's opinions. This will also be taken into consideration for a future contest we want to start.

We've been listening to a mixture of music lately, but are looking for what songs are popular among fellow cardsmiths. Hopefully we can get a variety of genres and artists mentioned here.

Here's a few examples of what we've been listening to...
Silent Hill 4 - Waiting for you
Silent Hill 2 - Le Tourment de Laura (Theme of Laura Reprise remix)
Placebo - One of a Kind
Lacuna Coil - End Of Time
Acceptance - So Contagious
Mother Mother - In the Wings

  • I've been listening to a lot of stuff by Jeff/Casey Lee Williams lately.
I May Fall - https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&persist_app=1&noapp=1&v=oERGkFpbZhw (This is the result of being too lazy to look up how to do the linky words.)
  • @Lujikul
No problem, you don't need to. Well, I'm gonna check some some of their music then. :)

    * Johann Sebastian Bach's 6 cello suites

    * Die Fledermaus Overture by Johann Strauss II

    * Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky (the orchestra version, not the wimpy piano versions)

    * Anything that isn't Star Wars written by John Williams (I highly suggest the Filmharmonic Brass album online)

    * The Planets, by Gustav Holst

    * 699 Reasons Why The Izzet Are Smarter Than You, by...

...Oops, are you looking for normal music for normal people? Hrrmph. Guess I will retreat back into my hole in the ground and begin another 6-hour practice session.

EDIT: Honestly, anything composed by Mozart is genius and is always worth listening to. Sorry, forgot about the true god of classical composition
  • Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture

Alvaro Soler's songs Sofia and El Mismo Sol
Se Avessi Un Cuore - Annalisa

Recently I've been listening to (Don't Fear) The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult

And as @Lujikul said before anything by Jeff & Casey Williams. I love what they did for the RWBY soundtrack. I think one of my favourite things they made would just be the entire soundtrack to the episode never miss a beat. The Jazz remix of I Burn and the Jazz remix of This Will Be the Day

Edit: Man how could I forget this. Song of the Ancients. I just started playing Nier so this really got stuck in my head

I'll be starting a contest tomorrow with the following requirements. So I'm wondering what everyone's opinions on the list are so far! (Early notice of the list isn't an issue as the contest has a reasonable duration. Community preference is more important.)

    A) You may make up to one card for any song of your choice.
    B) You may make an additional 2 cards based on the songs playlist.

    List:
    1) Aurelio Voltaire - This Ship's Going Down
    2) The Chainsmokers - Don't Let Me Down (Jenaux Remix) [or Alt Source]
    3) Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends [or Music Video]
    4) Thousand Foot Krutch - The End Is Where We Begin [or Fan MV]
    5) XYLØ - America [or Alt Source]
    6) Making this one a surprise for tomorrow! (Open to community choices.) ~ Jimmy Eat World - Pain
    7) Surprise Song! ~ Prey OST - Semi Sacred Geometry (Female)
    8) Surprise Song! ~ DAGames - Hello Neighbor (GET OUT)
  • The song list so far seems good. A pretty decent diversity for a four point list. I look forward to seeing the 5 and 6 spots. And surprise spots are very interesting. Something I can't think ahead for.

overall those four songs give a pretty diverse pick for making cards based off them. I look forward to seeing what areas might be able to be explored from whatever we get as our last four songs.

Personally I can't say if they're good or bad songs since I love all music equally. You'll need a second opinion on that. But I believe given the time the four songs could have a decent amount of cards made for each pick so far.

I'm looking for one or two more classical tunes with lyrics for the contest to accommodate as much people as possible... or just classic that are popular. I have a habit of only listening to instrumentals for classical music.

Does anyone have some ideas that have a bit of crossover with new generation music? I've accounted for many other genres to an extent, but haven't covered classical enough.
  • Aurelio Voltaire has a surprising amount of classical style in some of his songs, depending on what you listen to, such as Riding a Black Unicorn or When You're Evil.

A warning to all, some of his songs get very deep into religious themes.

    @Lujikul
As long as they don't get too close to the profane or anti-religious sides then I'll be considering some.

Our favorite is Aurelio Voltaire - This Ship's Going Down

If I find another classic song that fits the list, the contest will start tomorrow. Otherwise, it will start June 1st, 2017.

The current duration of the contest will be two weeks, (14 days) varying depending on participation.

Edit: I added a track from Voltaire to the list as well!
  • I'll leave that last song as open for the time being, in case anyone ends up having last minute suggestions.

I'll check here in the morning in that case! :)
  • It's the morning!
