SET A: Battle for Westvale
1. First Set Link: https://mtgcardsmith.com/user/ElMagici/sets/29269

a. Plot:
The plane of Vestland became the destination of refugees escaping from the Demon Wars, a war waged by demons and angels across all the multiverse.
This set focuses on the arrival of Zaarvid (Demon) and Anautia (Angel) and how their presence corrupted the balance of Vestland and started a revolt, treasons and all-out war between factions in order to protect or destroy de Planar Overseer.

b. Factions
- White Orchid Order: A predominant white and blue order, a soldier and knight tribal faction, in charge of Sancta.

- The Frontiersmen: A predominant white and green organization, a colaboration between the White Orchid Order and the elves.

- The Defectors and Marauders: Red, blue and black, orcs, human, dwarves, elves, and all that were persuaded by Zaarvid to destabilize the peace. Leaded by Romagen

- Omesian Researchers: A mono blue and neutral artificer faction, dedicated to the creation and maintenance of security measures and automated working tools.

c. Mechanics and Focus:
Since this set is the beginning, mechanics are tame and simple, focused solely on combat damage and a type of counter named "bounty", more focused on removal.

- Renown (When this creature deals combat damage to a player, if it isn't renowned, put a +1/+1 on it and it becomes renowed.)
image

- Hunter (When this creature enters the battlefield, put a bounty counter on target creature.)
image

- Battle Cry (Whenever this creature attacks, each other attacking creature gets +1/+0 until end of turn.)
image

And also, the best way we found to represent a massive battle and flow of troops were based on tokens. Most of the spells create harmless or normal sized tokens. But we have some cards that are important to the history and we needed to show them as a card, like this:

Raging Thunder of Westvale is an introductory card for another card on a future set, it shows the specific moment when the "Mistery Knight" appeared on the battlefield to turn the tide of the battle against the defectors on Frontiersmen territory.
But also, we have Last Man Standing, a sad moment on the story when a rookie soldier is the sole survivor of a lost battle against the Marauders.

d. Jumping to the next set:

At the end of the set story, Anautia used her grace to prevent the destruction of the Planar Overseer, failing in the process, as this set of three cards reveal on their flavor:

And the Planar Overseer shatters in five parts, each one representing one aspect of the plane

With the plane at the brink of unstability and danger, we move to the next set Westvale Consumed, but that will be done tomorrow...

    Status: UPDATING.

    a. Plot:
The dust of war finally settled down, but the plane became chaotic and unstable. For the first time in years, the veil between planes were thin and planeswalking was posible again, but not exclusively only to planeswalkers. More important, the plane inhabitants needed to adapt in order to survive this new and hostile enviroment.

    b. Factions and Returning Characters:

    - Gunna Troy and Marius Dor
    imageimage imageimage

Mortally wounded, the head priest of the Tharf Parish body was buried there in homage to his service. Only to be received by an evolved spirit, thanks to the changes of the plane and revived under Marius Dor command as another pawn on his revenge schemes.

    - Asmagodi, Anautia and the Chaos Rift

    imageimageimageimage

Anautia comes back at the end of this set as a restored and more powerful angel.
But, we need to focus more on the journey than the destination.
Balandria must travel the plane in search of hidden artifacts of the former inhabitants of Vestland in order to restore the stability.
Asmagodis, an imprisoned demon king in the Chaos Rift, will try to stop her, and make his way out of the pocket dimension.

    - The Lavadancers of Dakkan

    imageimageimage

Asmagodis has another rivals, the Lavadancers of Dakkan, inhabitants of the Chaos Rift and versed in the art of smelting and smithing they fight the demon king to stop his influence over this region.

    - Taesirian Extravagances

    imageimageimageimage

On her journey, Balandria will met one of many extraplanar societies that collided with Vestland, in this case, with Taesir. A Simic centered society, represented by Talunis, a half-mermaid, half-human, will warn and guide Balandria trough the region to avoid falling in the many natural and twisted traps the plane has to defend himself.

    - Otis and the Spirit Trappers

    imageimageimageimage

Otis Orenson, former student of the Omesian Academy adapted really quick to the changes of the plane. When the Academy and the Order fell, he retorted to necromancy and summoning to defend himself against the unresting spirits and other otherwordly un-life forms. He will assist Balandria as an ambassador of the Ophidian Cult and an ally against the Marius Dor invasion.

    - Ophidian Cult of Muukland

    imageimageimageimage

An undead cult reborn from the ancient inhabitants of Vestland, they quickly started zombifying every dead life form that can be zombified to increase the number of their ranks. They know all about the ancient artifacts and will put Balandria to numerous test to share their knowledge.
  • c. Mechanics and Focus:
This set, as the story developed, has a lot of cards that may be weird in concept, but represents the feel of the plane.
But anyway, the core mechanics of the set also will keep simple and clean to avoid confusions and unwanted interactions providing combos and loops.

    - Furor (Whenever this creature attacks, if another attacking creature shares a color with this creature...)
    image

    - -1/-1 counters
    image

    - Lineage (For each creature in the graveyard that shares a type with a creature...)
    image

Also, we have some cards representing past, present and future events of the story. Also, we have some legendary creature cards that are not nearly predominant on the story, but represent adjacent planes that collided, with also, some supporting cards.

    - Legendary and Supporting card example:
    imageimage

Urdrin, from the Ranai clan, just took the Vorsaf Manor, the most prominent and important building from the Xasaon plane, residence of aristocrats and politicians, making her the new queen and ruler of the plane.

    - Past, Present and Future card example:

    imageimageimage

The Westvale Parish lies in ruins and their people is still there, gathering their pieces and willing to fight for its land, they are not soldiers, but they can get some weapons if they wanted.
The Akuna plane almost got wiped out from existence because corruption and greed.
A glimpse of a futuristic traveler with misterious artifacts on their body blinked in and out from the plane, maybe she will be important?

    d. Jumping to the next set:

    imageimageimage

The tone in this cards are the same, for much they try, Vestland will fall deeper in the darkness, the Ranai clan is closing to the invasion on Vestland and everyone has their own agenda. With Anautia restoring the faith of the people and the formation of the Angelic Skyguards, they face a new task, rescue Balandria from the Chaos Rift.

  • Just incase the topic creator wasn't aware...Westvale is a place in Innistrad already. (Not say can't be like the springfield of magic where tons of planes use same name.)

  • Yeah I know... Honest mistake
