Ravnica Mechanics

Hello! I was planning on working on a 2 Ravnica sets and I wanted to get some new mechanics for each guild. This isn't a challenge but any cards that display mechanics will be favorited.

Good luck crafting!

Are you giving each guild a new mechanic or are you bringing back some old ones?
  • Wild [Gruul]

(Creatures with haste, creatures with trample, and instant and sorcery spells with no targets are wild.)

Wild is a batching Keyword (like historic).

    Biodiversity [Simic]

Biodiversity N (Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, if it shares no creature types with other creatures you control, put N +1/+1 counters on this creature.)

    Biodiversity only goes on creatures.

    Enact [Azorius]

Enact N (Reveal the top five cards of your library. Put an enchantment card from among them into your hand or onto the battlefield if it's a Law with converted mana cost N or less. Put the rest on the bottom in any order.)

Law is an enchantment subtype with no inherent mechanical definition that can be referenced by this mechanic and other cards (Like arcane for instant/sorceries and cartouche for auras).

  • I'm kind of confused what the theme is for the ravnica sets.
  • Okay, I'll just list out some mechanic ideas for each guild:

    Enchantments matter, custom enchantment keyword
Keyword name-- Whenever two or more creatures attack you, as long as two or more creatures are attacking you, etc, [effect]
Keyword name-- For each enchantment you control, [effect]
Keyword name-- For each untapped creature you control, [effect]

Overwhelming-- As long as you control four (or perhaps three) or more creatures, [effect].

Penance-- Whenever you sacrifice a creature, [effect]
Penance-- Whenever you pay life, [effect]
Keyword X (You may have creaturename enter the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters on it. If you do, target opponent gains X * 2 life.)
    Gold tokens

Keyword-- For each attacking creature you control, [effect]

Fateseal? I know it's super unfun, though. It's like scrying for your opponent.
Predict. (Action. Name a card, then look at the top card of your library. If it's the named card, reveal it and put it into your hand.)
Grind X (Reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal X land cards, then puts them all into their graveyard. Can be used on self, or to mill. Example: Target player grinds 2.)

    Consider bringing back proliferate.

Keyword-- If you've cast another spell this turn, if you've cast two or more spells this turn, etc, [Effect]
    Bring back cascade?

Keyword name-- For each land card in your graveyard, [effect]
Forage (You may exile a creature card from your graveyard. If you do, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature. Functions like explore)

Keyword name-- When you discard CARDNAME, [effect]
Sadistic-- Whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player, [effect]

Overrun (You may have this creature assign combat damage as though it wasn't blocked.) (Yes, I know I wasn't the first person to have this idea.)
Keyword-- For each tapped creature you control, [effect]

    Hope this helps!
  • Azorius:
Impound target [permanent.] (Exile it. Its controller may pay {X} to put it from exile onto the battlefield, where X is its converted mana cost.)
Conviction—Whenever a creature an opponent controls becomes tapped [effect].
Excise (Whenever an opponent pays life, you gain that much life.)
Levy—[Property] spells your opponents cast cost {1} more to cast.
Mobilize a creature with [property]. (Put a creature card with [property] from your hand onto the battlefield. It gains haste until end of turn. Return that creature to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step.)
Stalwart—As long as [creature name] is untapped, [effect].
Fertilize N (As this [object] enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice any number of creatures. Create N 0/1 green Plant creature tokens for each creature sacrificed this way.)
Sprout—Whenever a creature token enters the battlefield under your control, [effect].
Mindwipe target player. (That player puts their hand on the bottom of their library, then draws that many cards minus one.)
Espionage—If you cast this spell during your opponent's turn, [effect].
Quickthink a [property]. (Reveal cards from the top of your library until your reveal a [property] card. Put that card into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.)
Innovate—Whenever you cast a spell from your the top of your library, [effect].
Reshape N counters (Move N counters from one permanent onto another. If the second permanent refers to any kind of counter, the moved counter becomes one of those counters. Otherwise, it becomes a +1/+1 counter.)
Enhance—Whenever a +1/+1 counter is put on [cardname], [effect].
Entertain target creature. (Gain control of it until end of turn and untap it. It gains haste until end of turn.)
Dazzle—Whenever you take damage during your turn, [effect].
Chrun N (Put the top N cards of your library into your graveyard, then put N cards from your graveyard on the bottom of your library in any order.)
Decay—Whenever a creature card enters your graveyard from your library, [effect].
Primative (You can't cast this spell if you have cast a noncreature spell this turn. When this creature enters the battlefield, you can't cast noncreature spells this turn.)
Territorial—As long as you control five or more lands, [effect].
  • Rakdos -- confuse N (tap target creature with power N or less. that creature doesn't untap until it's controller pays {N})
