Can we change characters before the final due date if we come up with something different?

edit: reread the instructions, I should really pay more attention lmao

An orphan from a big city, the tenders at the orphanage didn't have a lot of time to work with the kids, trying to make sure everything ran smoothly.  Renatin was a prodigy and quite interested in magic, and so got permission to go to the nearest library and study from the old tomes there.
These weren't quality books of magic to learn from, but Renatin struggled through them, and eventually began trying to cast simple spells.  The theories spouted by the books however were outdated, and so he eventually ended up making a mess.  When dragged before a court, the entire story came out, and Renatin was offered a pardon if he would work for Queen Sora as one of her many agents in an ongoing war.  Training came with the position too.
He accepted the offer, and was known as quite the effective operative.
    Name: Renatin
    Age: 17
    Race: Wolfkin
    Occupation: Royal Agent, Wizard
Home Plane: Custom.  A relatively small plane, it has many small, warring kingdoms.  Think about the size of Europe, with three main landmasses and about 27 different countries.  Animal kin aren't uncommon, but they are far from the main race either.
Skills: Evocation, Conjuration, Enchanting, Enhancing, Divination, and pretty much every other form of magic.
Weaknesses: Is under the legal age to do a lot of things, is untrained in most forms of physical combat (knows: spear, sword, and unarmed), and that which he knows he isn't too great in.  Social interaction.  Can be overconfident...
Fun fact:  The title of "Sigil of the Future" is a reference to a prophecy that "There would come a being of might, and he will be your Sigil of the Future.  He shall teach you new things, and shall fix the errors of your ancestors."  He was presented with it when he pointed out a couple of flaws in a commonly used theorem by Queen Sora as a bit of a joke and a reminder to be humble, but its starting to look more and more accurate.

As part of his training with the Royal Agents, he got to meet a few different operatives.  One of these was Ishak, who was a mage with quite the affinity for fire.  He liked fire.  A lot.  And starting off the introduction with "I came to everyone's notice when I burnt down half of the market district" got Renatin off the right foot with him.  The two have been unlikely pals, working together on plenty of missions, and while Ishak's methods are quite simple and repetative, they've worked quite well together.

    Name:Ishak
    Age:23
    Race: Human
    Occupation: Royal Agent
    Home plane:  See Renatin
Skills: Fire, fire, fire, fire analysis, fire control, you get the point already.  Also has some good roguish skills like knives and steath and charisma, but he ignores these for fire usually.
Weaknesses: Somewhat predictable (did we mention fire?), much more of a sucker for a pretty face, really doesn't care about the crown; just likes that he can burn things as a Royal Agent.
Not-so-fun-fact:  His mother died because he was breathing fire as he exited her womb.

  • Welcome

So the day had finally come.
Alexei and his regiment marched to the beat of sounding drums. Banners of both Medirna and Gwendolyn stood high and mighty over the arena just before them. Alexei glanced to the sky now and then to see if anyone would arrive, but no one did.
He frowned as he saw the angel contestant fly low above the arena.
    Dimitri pushed his shoulder.
"If general Artiem sees you making faces, you'll surely be cleaning the outhouses tonight." he whispered.
Alexei wanted to say something jeering, but he stopped himself and took a deep breath.
Alexei moved his hand back and felt the crossbow that was hanging over his right shoulder.
Dimitri saw Alexei's movement. "Don't do anything stupid today." he whispered.
Alexei got bitter. "Don't do anything stupid? How can they allow thirty strangers with special powers just walk into the city when there are not even a single dragon anywhere as long as eyes can see?" Alexei whispered loudly with anger in his voice.
"If they were Lisakdonian spies they would pee their pants as soon as they heard a dragon come. We can't have the arena stink of pee the very first day." said Boris, the soldier before them mockingly.
"Fighting almost to death in an arena with thousands of eyes upon you. Doesn't sound like a very smart move for a spy." Dimitri whispered.
"Sounds exactly like what a Lisakdonian spy would do, haha" Boris chuckled.
"Silence in the line!!" the captain shouted.

The arena was not very large compared to those in Medirna and Gwendolyn, or even Gael, but it was large enough to fulfill it's purpose.
Two thousand people had gathered on the seats that were divided into three parts. The northern part was occupied by Medirnian soldiers and citizens with flags and banners of the royal dragon with its iron crown.
The southern part was occupied by the Gwendolynians and their flags and banners of the golden dragon.
To the west was a small section., barely three hundred seats for the native citizens.
In the middle of each section was a balcony were the important people sat.
The Medirnian and Gwendolynian balconies were almost identical with the general of respective army, their families, lifeguards and some other officers and officials.

The Vosanovan balcony, which was supposed to house the royal family, had not been used by the king or his family for years. They would remain in the castle for months without ever leaving. Instead the balcony was occupied by members of the most powerful houses in Vosanova and their lifeguard. The Vosanova balcony was the only place in the whole arena were Vosanovan banners stood. Four of them stood there, yellow were they with a white rising horse on burning ground.
In the middle of the arena, on the sand floor, stood nineteen contestant teams widely spread out with the last one flying just above.

Moments later, the north-western and south-western gates opened.
Out of the gates came eight elite soldiers respectively followed by the main hosts.
The soldiers lined up beside their gate while the hosts walked further out and stopped.
Everyone was silent, then they turned towards the Vosanova balcony where a young woman now stood up with her hands on the fence.

"Vosanova welcomes you all." She said, reluctantly. She then sat down again.

    The generals now stood up.
"Gwendolyn welcomes you." Said the general of the Gwendolyn forces.
"Medirna welcomes you." Said the general of the Medirna forces.
    Then they sat down again.

"Welcome indeed!" said the female Medirnian host dressed in red and gold.
"You all know why you are all here, to fight! For glory, riches, fame and power, to cover the sand in the blood of your opponents while you stand victorious.
There seems to be a slight problem though. You are all way too many. four teams to be exact. I let my... friend, tell you how we shall solve that problem." She now pointed towards the hosts on the southern side.

A young noble man, dressed in blue, stood in the front. "When either of us call your names, you shall approach and receive a scroll from one of soldiers here around us." The sixteen soldiers each reached out a scroll. "One after one you will be chosen to receive a scroll and then walk out of the arena from the closest gate. When there are no scrolls left there will be four of you still standing here. Those four will not enter the tournament and must leave, as soon as possible. Is that clear?" He said.

The contestants looked around mostly confused.

"Good, then we can begin. I assume that the ladies begin." The main said with his hand reaching towards the Medirnian host.

She smiled suspiciously at the man. The younger man behind her approached and stopped at her left side. He took out a scroll and gave it to her.
She opened the scroll and said out loud.

"Medirnias first choice shall be; Brynn, Protector Angel."

The soldier furthest to the side took a step forward and reached the scroll forward.
Brynn flew down and landed before the soldier from which she received the scroll.
It was sealed with a dragon skull wearing an iron crown. The soldier pointed towards the gate behind them. Brynn followed the instructions and disappeared into the gate.

The girl behind the male host in blue stepped forward and gave him a scroll.
He opened it and read out.

"Gwendolyn's first choice shall be; Aeryn of the First Oaths."

Aeryn walked to the soldier which reached out a scroll and accepted it.
This scroll was sealed with a golden dragon. She then walked down the gate.

"Gwendolyn's second choice shall be; Jelene, Renegade Bushi."

And so they continued, choosing two contestants after each other until no scrolls were left in the soldiers' hands.
Four teams remained in the arena.
Four teams that would not participate in the tournament.

  • Hoo boi! Here I go spellslinging again!
  • If your name or fighter was not included above then sadly, you have not been chosen to participate any further.
It is never fun to eliminate people before the game has even begun.
I do believe that I was as fair as possible when making my choices as I based them on Card quality, story and also shown interest.
I am sorry if you really wanted to make it into the tournament.

    Contestants
You have now been chosen either by the Medirna hosts or the Gwendolyn hosts.
Which side you was picked by will determinate the following.
    - Where you will live
    - Who is your host outside the arena fights
    - Who you will fight and not fight in the first stage.

The eight chosen of each faction will be put against each other. So every match will be Medirna's chosen vs Gwendolyn's chosen and so on.
So each of you now know 7 contestants which you definitely won't fight in the first stage

You will see that many rules and decisions will be made based on what would most likely fulfill the tournaments purpose within the story.
"Eyes watching elsewhere might as well be blind."
"Ears kept underground are deaf to the changing winds."
More about this later in the tournament.

You are now allowed to further make changes and edit your cards and story.
The only limit is that you are no longer allowed to change contestant.

The matches and their order will be revealed tomorrow (or later today)

  • (Alright, nice! Super happy to have not been left behind!)

Jay breathed a sigh of relief as soon as his name was called. He was worried for a while that he wouldn't be accepted because of his father's reputation. But he soon found that he had nothing to worry about, and rifted up to collect his scroll from the Gwendolonian representitive. Jay hadn't really cared which side chose him, as long as he was chosen. He had been to Gwendolyn and Medirna, and didn't particularily prefer one or the other. So, in that moment, he didn't feel excitement because of which side chose him, but rather because of the fact one of them had given him the opportunity he wanted so badly. And so, when all the scrolls had been given away and the event was over, Jay went home with a smile on his face. He would finally have a chance to prove himself.

Akuma's hands were shaking, a symptom of nervousness she had fought to hold back since she was a child. No such luck. She clenched her hands into fists in an attempt to control them. She took a deep breath. Breathe, Akuma. the sun was high overhead, reflecting off the armor in the crowd, sending spots through Akuma's vision. She squeezed her eyes shut. Her armor felt suffocatingly hot. She began to question what would happen were she not chosen. She would find some other way to prove herself. somehow... "Miderna's second choice shall be: Fumeiyona Akuma" Akuma's eyes snapped open. She hurried forward to receive the scroll, bowing deeply to the woman who offered it to her, before hurrying out of the oppressive sun of the arena.

As she left the arena, she started to make mental notes of her possible opponents, constructing strategies to defeat them.

Aeryn: It was the sword that bothered Akuma most. were it a normal everyday blade, Akuma was confident in her ability to simply outfight its weilder. But the sword had strange runes carved into it, something she'd never seen before. Akuma made a mental note to ask later.

Jelene: Akuma recognized the sword Jelene was carrying, not by name, but by the construction. it was a Kamigawan made katana, without a doubt. By the way she was holding it, Akuma could tell she knew how to use it. To fight her would mean a true test of reflexes, but Akuma was unsure of Jelene's skill level. She decided to try to watch her first fight.

Kutos: Akuma could sense Kutos' nervousness, but everything else about him remained a mystery. He appeared to wear no weapons, so perhaps he used magic? Akuma would ask later.

Elos: Akuma wasn't sure if Elos was talking to himself earlier, or something or someone else. Akuma thought he seemed somewhat out of place with his enthusiasm. Maybe some people don't have so much on the line, she thought. Elos would be a welcome combatant.

Lukaes: Akuma disliked how little of a read she had on Lukaes. he wore light armor, and carried daggers, so perhaps he was a fast and light fighter? She'd have to watch him closely.

Jay: Akuma was more worried about Jay then she'd liked to admit. Teleportation like that is a powerful ability, not to be taken lightly, but Akuma was certain that if she could keep a guard up, she could finish the fight with one counterattack.

Graagdord: The goblin fascinated Akuma. he looked nothing like the akki of kamigawa. Akuma thought he looked cute, in a way, but then chided herself. It'd be rude to judge her opponents based on size. They all were chosen, thus, she would take none of them for granted. The goblin might've been small, but Akuma could sense a fierce fighting spirit within.

Efilia: Akuma was wondering why they let someone seemingly so young into the tournament, but brushed it aside. The girl seemed to have no weapons, so magic was the most likely candidate. Akuma would try to figure out what it was, but the girl's stance led her to believe she knew little about combat. Still, underestimating your opponent is something you should never do.

Time to analyze her current "teammates"

Brynn: flying was a huge advantage, one that Akuma was a little nervous about. while she was strong, Naku Tsuki was fairly heavy, as an Ōdachi, and she knew she'd get tired eventually having to hold it up above her. She'd have to end a fight like this quickly.

Dakros: Dakros cut an imposing figure with his jagged armor and fiery longsword. Akuma could sense a deep resentment within him. He would be a man of conviction. If he could use that longsword to the best of his ability, he'd be a dangerous enemy.

Renatin: The wolfkin seemed upbeat, much like Elos. perhaps Akuma was thinking about this tournament wrong. But she couldn't shake the feeling that this was her best shot. No weapons implied magic, and the faerie wings he sported were worrying. Magic and flight would be a dangerous combo, but he wore no armor, so Akuma was sure one hit would decide the fight.

Nilani: Akuma would've guessed she was an enchantress, but wasn't sure for sure. She looked fit and agile, however. Akuma's only emotional read on her was a sense of apprehension. Perhaps she would talk to her later.

Niran: Akuma thought Niran didn't look like much of a fighter, but the violin she carried practically screamed magic. She just had to figure out what kind. Niran gave off a strangely sad feeling, of yearning. Akuma was intrigued and vowed to find out more.

Pan: Pan seemed pretty normal to Akuma, aside from his odd complexion. Akuma decided to watch him closely. She knew almost nothing about him, and she would have to find out.

Squrturglus: Akuma was a bit confused about why they let an ooze join. Could it talk? Akuma decided to try talking to it when they were alone. If it didn't talk, she didn't want to seem stupid. As far as combat abilities go, Akuma was worried about how her sword would fare against its oozelike form. Akuma couldn't wait to watch it fight.

With her mental notes logged, Akuma could finally relax. She swung her sword over her shoulder, loosened her armor, and took a deep breath. it was showtime
  • Dakros smiled as he walked up to receive his scroll, but as he touched it, it started to burn. He quickly put the fire out, then put on a glove and picked up the scroll. Dakros laughed, but not because of the scroll. "I will finally be able to test my strength. Once I win, no so-called hero will be able to stop me." Dakros thought. As he left, two guards started laughing at Dakros, having seen the commotion. Suddenly, they stopped. In fact, they would most likely never laugh again.

Jelene observed at the contestants and frowned.

'Your task is to attend this championship, and determine the value of this tournament. Find anything worthy to collect. Winning is optional.' And still she couldn't get over with the Syndicate's leader voice over her head. Although her nervousness was already gone away after her first death and resurrection, she couldn't stave off the wary feeling towards her immortal contractor since the day she decided to join the Syndicate.

'It matters not, and I can't run away. And I still need to watch that idiot Janus to keep him out of troubles that he couldn't handle.' Thought the ronin with her hands folded. Luckily, her brother was also assigned there in the same city along with her to provide her 'emotional' support or something like that, according to the Syndicate Leader.

'And this is certainly going to be a colorful tournament. But I really hate the uncertainties of the abilities of those contestants. So far everyone could be troublesome here... and why is there another samurai in this plane? That girl couldn't be a planeswalker, couldn't it? Although technically anyone else could be a planeswalker too hm...'

Jelene knows that there is no such culture like her temporary home in Kamigawa in that particular plane. She did visited all of the important kingdoms of the plane after all, by using the Syndicate's portal bridges, totally not for 'thievery' or 'spying' purposes of course (sarcasm).

Leaving the arena on the street below, an unknown hand suddenly clutched her shoulder and stopped her.

"Seems like someone is grouchy today."

The ronin rolled her eyes and removed the offending limb away.

"Don't you have something better to do, oh dear brother?"

"Why? Can I not give a statement about your success?" Grinned the black-haired man in a dark grey vest, although his expression wasn't easily readable because of the red scarf that was covering the bottom half of his face.

Jelene turned towards him and crossed her arms again. And she sighed. "Fine, let's talk in more discreet place then."

"Hah, that's the spirit, oh dear sister. Now follow me!" Beckoned the male person.

'I swear Janus...' Jelene rolled her eyes again and calmly followed her brother in a totally not super secret Syndicate's meeting place...
  • Oh well... I tried.

(Please correct me if I do something wrong. It is a style that I am not familiar with.)
Aeryn was flattered to be one of the first choices. As she passed through the gate she quickly looked for a place to sit. The Nyrea sword was uncontrollable and that was not a good thing.
She tried to combine with some runes and a '' conversation '' through her spiritual link.
One of the bad things about being the first to be chosen and waiting for the other competitors. But a good thing and being able to analyze them little by little when they went down the gate.
Gradually the teams were formed and some mental notes were made. But other than that, she hoped the sword would agree and help with that.
Of Medirna's choices she could not fail to analyze Brynn, also one of the first chosen. An angel, regardless of her history and motivation to enter the arena, would be a worthy opponent. Nilani, on the other side, resembles rune and enchanting powers, making it one of the most difficult to contend with in the tournament. She quickly made the sword understand that in a fight with her, the advantage would be herself, Nyrea the sword.
On your side, Jay was a mystery.
Graagdord is very cute, but soon it disappears when he remembers that he is a Goblin. She hoped that it would not harm the team at any point in the tournament. Goblins are restless and full of impetus.
  • Elos waited in suspense for his name to be called, and, when it finally was, he could hardly supress a smile as he walked forward to claim the scroll. As he walked back, holding his scroll, he muttered to Daybreaker, "I almost thought we wouldn't make it."

DON'T BE FOOLISH, BOY said the blade from its sheath. WITH MY POWER AND RENOWN, AND YOUR... HUMAN-NESS, WE ARE UNSTOPPABLE. KEEP YOUR APPREHENSION FOR THE ACTUAL BATTLES.

Elos nodded and looked to the other challengers on his team. He glanced over to the first to receive the scroll of Gwendolyn, also weilding a sword glowing with power.

"She's got a magic sword too," Elos pointed over to Aeryn. "Do you know each other?"

NO. Daybreaker's voice rang out in Elos's mind. BUT THAT BLADE WEARS RUNES OF POWER, I THINK. I CANNOT READ THEM FROM HERE.

"I'll take your word for it." Elos then turned his attention back to the guards just in time to see a large ooze going forward to take its scroll. He watched in amazement as it reached out with a pseudopod and took the scroll, then began to crawl away along the gravel.

THIS WILL BE A STRANGE TOURNAMENT, said his sword at the same time that Elos said: "This is going to be a fun tournament."
  • Kutos felt a wave of relief as he exited the arena, all of those people were making him nervous. He had only been in this place for a few days but he already missed the quiet of the forest. Being here was throwing off his powers as if his connection to the land was weakened by the city. He took a deep breath trying to wash his anxieties way. He knew that something had called him here, maybe destiny, maybe the land itself but what ever it was he would try his best in the tournament.

Upon further elaboration, I did not want to contribute any story to my character, for I have other obligations, both on the site and off. My uninclusion is probably for everyone's best.

Congratulations to those that did manage to find the time, and the very best of luck!

    If you don't mind :)

    The meeting with Cranket

In a small moment that Aeryn managed to leave the Arena, she saw near the entrance, sitting and shaking, probably due to the gears, a small robot. He looked at a star, hugged him and kept it in a bag on his back. This process was repeated three more times in a tone of not believing what happened.
Nyrea, the sword, fluttered and caught the attention of Aeryn who walked over to the robot.
'' You were in the arena earlier today, correct? '' - Aeryn pointed at the robot's antenna - '' What's your name? ''
'' My name is Cranket. You need to help me. I can't go now. I need to take that star to the tournament. The star told me that it can change people '' - Cranket kept popping - '' She's all I have. I need to show my worth. I need to show her value. ''
'' It seems to be a very interesting object. If I said that this beautiful sword also speaks to me, would you believe it? '' - Aeryn drew the sword and showed it to Cranket. The sword emitted a slight aura - '' If you want, I can keep this star. I will leave her in my pocket and who knows, if I win, she will show her power and honor what you did for her here ''
Clanket was not too reluctant. He hugged again and gave it to Aeryn.
''I trust you. If you lost, try ... try to show everyone. I will try to stay in the stands. I hope I can get past the guards. ''
Both smiled, greeted each other and went on their way.
