  • @jpastor , here you go. My challenge was to create a wall with toughness 7 or greater.

Unstable Barricade by Potato13 | MTG Cardsmith

    Another box, please.
  • edited February 2021
I had half of my thoughts on The Duke's AEtheric Hedron written up before I had to run, so I'll finish those and then talk about Potato's Unstable Barricade now that's popped up as the most recent entry.

AEtheric Hedron - I love the idea, I love the art. Thanks to the glorious printing of Lithoform Engine copying permanent spells has been made much easier, so you can word this as "create a copy of that spell" or "cast a copy of that spell" depending on whether you want cast triggers, and the rules now say permanent spells that are copied become a token copy. You don't need to specify creating a token that's a copy of the spell to cast, helping you simplify the rules text if you'd like.

I also feel this ability is quite powerful, so five mana and at uncommon seems a bit unbalanced. I think upping it to rare or mythic would be more appropriate, and maybe seven mana. Similar cards in Magic giving you advantage like this when you cast a spell are Sunbird's Invocation (seven mana, but randomly digs for spells) and Swarm Intelligence (seven mana, only copies instants and sorceries), both at rare.

Unstable Barricade - Cool concept, I think you've represented the unstable element really well with the shifting modes and sacrifice effect. I think you could straight up just make the card an illusion, it doesn't seem to effect anything mechanically in the ability you've had trigger to make it one. My only other thought is that the 5/1 ability doesn't make a lot of sense for being a barrier/wall, and that this should maybe be 1/5 with defender. Alternatively if you want to keep it as 5/1, maybe it

My two challenges, and may I have another round please barkeep?

Create any card that pumps a creature at least +7/+7.
[Bonus] Mystery Challenge: Create a card with "geist" in its name.

@Temurzoa, this is such a cool card! I think it could be a 4-drop, to balance it with early game plays.
    Part one:
    Shadow Unbound Knowledge

    Part 2:
    On The House
  • Feedback on AboveAndAbout's two cards:
Shadow, Unbound Knowledge - I like the idea, a black card regarding knowledge that cares about the library. With protection being a slightly complex mechanic I think it would help to have reminder text for this instance, to explain how it would work in regards to your library having it. Can my opponent search my library with a spell that targets me? Can I search my library when I crack a fetch land? Definitely an interesting area to explore.

On The House - So that's my favourite art I've seen possibly ever, really cool find. It's a really interesting way to go into a new colour for coin-flipping, which is almost exclusively red and blue. I just love this card all around.

    My Mystery Challenges:

    Create a Plant creature card.
    https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/terronus-sylvanwing

Create a permanent with the word "time" in its name or ability.

May I have another box please jpastor?
  • I've yet to redeem these prizes, as well as the deadline: prize 308, prize 142, prize 19, prize 264.

For the deadline, please favorite any 3 cards you like in my collection.
For prize 308, any two undiscovered prizes will do.
I'd like to redeem prize 142.
I'll donate the hugs to @Temurzoa.
Please read the riddle to me!

  • @AboveAndAbout.... I pulled this from the blog... thought it would come in handy.. the name of the deadline is "deadline of many thoughts" and saying "this is such a cool card" is not quite what I was hoping for... but I found this piece of info for reference. You don't need to read it all, but just in case you're curious and haven't read this yet...

Giving feedback and critiquing cards is one of the coolest things we do aside from forging our own custom creations. We don't expect everyone to give top notch feedback on every card, and not every Cardsmith is looking for someone to point out flaws in the design space of their card. That's why it's important to approach the thoughts you leave for someone in a way that you would want to hear it.
    How to Critique other Cardsmiths
One of our most favorite Cardsmiths was kind enough to dedicate her entire monthly blog to Designing With Kindness. We wanted to follow up on that with some advice on how to critique others in ways that you may not have thought of before. The first method of critiquing that I wanted to highlight is the one used by Master Cardsmith Tomigon when people ask him for feedback after challenges.
The Card in question is this
    Corwinnn Treetop Mentor
And here is the method and some examples from Tomigon himself.
When people DM me and ask for feedback, this is what I keep in mind.
    (1) Respect the creator's intention
    (2) Explain the issue
    (3) Make suggestions
    (4) Let them know why my suggestions would make the card better
    (5) Be nice
And here are examples of feedback, including how I grade each example. I think #5 is the optimum choice
    Example #1
    Broken.
    Feedback Used (2)
This is merely an ineffective comment trying to explain the issue, and not a good piece of feedback.
    Feedback Grade - F
    Example #2
    Feedback Used (3)
A suggestion was made, but not a lot of your reasoning behind it
    Feedback Grade - D
    Example #3
    Feedback Used (2) & (3)
Here the issue was addressed and a suggestion was made.
    Feedback Grade - C
    Example #4
    Feedback Used (2)(3) & (5)
This kind of feedback is good, because you're engaging the Cardsmith and making a positive connection
    Feedback Grade - B
    Example #5
“Whenever you draw a card, ...” doesn’t feel like mono green’s trigger. I suggest “Whenever a Forest enters the battlefield under your control, ...”
The 2nd ability reminds me of The Great Henge, except this doesn’t have a nontoken clause. But if it says nontoken, this no longer interacts with the first ability. What about “Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control for the first time each turn, ...”?
Considering all those values this card generates, I think {3}{g}{g} [2/2] is a fair balance.
The card that makes drawing a land card in the late game less disappointing is fun. Making a card that has a synergy on itself is a great attempt. Keep it up!
Oh, one more thing. Crediting wrong artist is not good. If you credit the right artist, the card is less likely to be deleted and more chance to get featured!
    Feedback Used (1)(2)(3)(4) & (5)
Now were in elite level feedback. In our opinion, this is the kind of deep feedback that anyone who's looking to make MTG accurate cards is looking for.
    Feedback Grade - A+

Just remove one of those abilities and it’s still a decent card.

This loops itself. The 2nd ability should say “nontoken”.

Wow! This is a cool commander for token strategy! However I have one problem with this. Those two abilities make an infinite loop. Perhaps the last ability shouldn't let you draw a card?

I like the idea of making those two abilities interact with each other. But this loops itself and lets you draw an infinite number of cards. Both of those abilities are very powerful, so you can fix that issue in the process of nerfing those abilities.
