  • Any good? I see it being used mostly for Angels which is why it says human in the reminder text.

Protector (When this creature enters the battlefied, choose target Human. Until end of turn, spells or abilities that would target that creature are redirected to this creature instead, damage that would be dealt to that creature is dealt to this creature instead.)

    Is this already a thing?
  • Barren - As long as you control no permanents/no other permanents, [effect]

Riot - Whenever all creatures you control attack, [effect].

    Three unique applications:
    https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/rebellious-bladewhirl
    https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/uncontrollable-blaze
    https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/devestated-cityscape

Note: Since the ability resolves when the attack is declared, attacking with nothing when you control no creatures does not trigger Riot.
  • @TezzeretofCarmot21 I don't think you need to bump the Mechanic Encyclopedia for all, one of the most important MTGCS forum posts of all time... XD
  • @Tomigon, temper is a cool mechanic

It's not much, but I've got a couple mechanics I'd like to contribute

Taunt (This creature must be blocked, if able)
I designed this to be the opposite of making something unblockable. It is primarily found on cards in Mardu colors.
    Examples: https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/conjured-confidence
    https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/altana-hotshot

Belittle (This creature can't be blocked by creatures with lesser power.)
Another keyword mechanic, meant to be the opposite of skulk. Again this mechanic would be primarily Mardu-colored. I haven't designed a card with this mechanic yet, but I hope to find a place for it in one of my sets.
  • @shadow123
Thanks! Feel free to use it!

I would like to contribute my mechanic, reverberate.

The flavour behind reverberate is a phenomenon that pulses out in waves, rather than a one time effect. It is somewhat of a hybrid between suspend and rebound.

Reverberate N - Cost (Cost: Exile this card from your hand with N wave counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a wave counter from it. If you do, copy the exiled card. You may cast this copy without paying its mana cost.)

    Things to note:
    1. Reverberate can be activated at instant speed, even if the actual spell is a sorcery.
    2. The card remains in exile at all times, even after all wave counters have been depleted.

Here are some reverberate cards I designed:

So far, I've only made instants and sorceries with this effect. I've not yet figured out how to incorporate creatures, artifacts and enchantments in a way that won't be broken, so if anyone has suggestions on that, do tell me. Or maybe it should stick to instants/sorceries.
  • @KalamMekhar Cool Mechanic! I would leave it on instants and sorceries, it makes the most sense with them.
  • @KrampisZman: can you think of a green effect that would fit the mechanic? I'm not able to complete the cycle.
  • @KalamMekhar I'll make a card and then post it here. Sound good?

Have some mechanics I came up with (Some of them aren't the most original though)

Purge - whenever you sacrifice a creature you control (EFFECT)

Firestorm N - Whenever this creature attacks, it deals N damage to target blocking creature

Assist - When this (CARD TYPE) enters the battlefield, if you cast another (SAME CARD TYPE) this turn, (EFFECT)

Moderate - If you have N or less cards in your Hand and/or Graveyard, (EFFECT)

Bloodbond - When this creature enters the battlefield, you may bond it to another creature. If either of those creatures leave the battlefield for any reason, sacrifice the other. As long as (CREATURE NAME) is bound to another creature, they both (EFFECT)

Barter - Keyword Ability - Activated
Barter [Cost] ([Cost]: Create a colorless Clue artifact token with "{2}, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card." Target opponent creates two colorless Treasure artifact tokens with "{t}, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool." You and target opponent may exchange control of these tokens.)
This is followed by an effect if you and your opponent exchange tokens.

Dismember - Keyword Ability - Activated
Dismember [Cost] ([Cost], {t}: Put a -1/-1 counter on target creature and create a 0/1 colorless Appendage creature token.)
    ...or...
Dismember - Keyword Ability - Triggered
Dismember (Whenever [this creature] is blocked, put a -1/-1 counter on the blocking creature and create a 0/1 colorless Appendage creature token.)

    @Corwinnn

How about this? It's simpler, and plays well in a defensive deck that could make use of the tokens. Also, yours plays like a super-wither.

    Dismember
(Whenever this creature blocks, put a -1/-1 counter on it and create a 0/1 colorless Appendage creature token.)
  • @IanLowenthal - That's a cool take on it. I was actually just posting it because we used it for the December "Theme of the Month"

    I have some old abilities.

Dauntless - If an opponent controls more creatures than you, [effect]

Coldblood {cost} (You may cast this spell for its coldblood cost if no spells were cast since the beginning of last turn.) Have been reworded with thanks to TenebrisNemo

    Old example:
    https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/ax-wielder-of-vallaheim?list=set&set=16834

I also have some other abilities which I should go back and reword and maybe balance them.
    Examples of these:
    Smite https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/velorian-mace-wielder
    Phalanx https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/amelian-hoplite?list=set&set=18982

Righteous - If you and sources you control have dealt no damage to players or non-attacking creatures since the beginning of your last turn, [effect]
I need to work further on this idea

    Example:
    https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/protector-angel-of-havenheim?list=set&set=16832

I have two abilities I don't mind other people using, but like Tomigon, please throw my name out there in the comments for credit if you do use any of the ideas. Here they are:

    my 1st ability:
Restore N (When this creature comes into play, you may shuffle N cards from your graveyard into your library.)

    image

    my 2nd ability:
Devastate - At the beginning of each end step, if a source you don't control dealt damage to you this turn, (fill in the blank).

    image
  • @sorinjace
That was a fun reversal of the Restore wording XD

Here are some of my Mechanics that I have made. Some are "Real" and Some are FUN.

    Real first:
Piracy- Player who controls [This Card], may tap lands you don't control for mana. Spend this mana only to cast [creature type spells]. (this is a MTG card made into a Mechanic)

    the 1st of my own
Armageddon - When this creature dies, target opponent sacrifices X non token permanents, where X is this creature's power. If only tokens are left, sacrifice those instead.

Blight (deals damage equal to it's power to attacking creature. Even if this creature blocked and was sent to the graveyard.)

Command N(If [This Card] is either in the command zone or on the battlefield, tap creatures based on their power to equal up to N and create that many x/x creature tokens for the amount tapped. Then put that many +1/+1 counters on this card if the card is out on the battlefield.
I know that command N is a mouthfull of a mechanic, but seeing a "Leader type card" a Commander if you will, you usually see just one of the parts but not all of the parts in one card.

    Now for the fun ones:
During the Knuckles, Ugandan Warrior Fling I made this:
No De Way Kicker(Whenever {BLANK} enters the battlefield you must ask every opponent: Do U no de way? If an opponent says no you may create a token of {BLANK} for every {Type BLANK} creature you control.
If yes then dey no de way.)

and during a christmas contest (I can't remember if someone else thought if it, If they come forward I'll give them credit or remove it.)
Christmas Cheer(At the beginning of your upkeep, create a colorless gift artifact token with: {t}: sacrifice this artifact: gain 1 life.)
  • @KalamMekhar I think you should put “may remove a wave counter” or “each upkeep”
  • @shadow123: 'may' would improve effectiveness but ruin flavour. The thing is supposed to be like a wave, with a constant 'wavelength' of 2 turns.

Cheater (You may sneak this creature into play at any time, but if an opponent catches you right away, exile it instead)
Cheatyface is now a mechanic. Lel

Bloodlust - whenever a creature delt damage by this creature this turn dies, (EFFECT).

Could someone help with the wording on this one?
  • edited February 2018
    @Tbeast430
Correct wording with a slight misspelling. See - https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/satyr-assassin

Best way to format it would be:
Bloodlust - Whenever a creature dealt damage by CARDNAME this turn dies, [effect].
  • @Tomigon and @Faiths_Guide
Thanks for that. I really appreciate you helping!
  • @Tbeast430
Anytime I'm able! Glad to assist :)
