Most of you probably wont know me. I used to be very active on here, but haven’t engaged with this much for the past 5 years or so.

Hopped on because I had some fun ideas and found the website has completely changed. I know that new ownership took over while i was still around, so not a huge surprise….However

Navigating the site, and even my own account has become much harder. Even the search bar is hard to find. I had to search my own profile up, because you can’t find it via the dashboard, it just takes you into the creator side of it.

While there are now numerous new frames and ways to edit the cards, it doesn’t appear that standard frames (especially standard multicolor frames) are available. Or perhaps i just can’t find them.

I couldn’t even figure out how to get onto the forums via the website, and separately googled it.

While I appreciate the obvious effort that has gone into making the site have more options, and likely to make it more profitable, i have to say that as an old user, its honestly a regression in usability.

Anyone else, especially those who’ve been around since I was have any thoughts on this, or tips on how to use it?

Do we not have the Lesson frame template?

i've been working on a group of cards for my set that takes place in our d&d world, based around one specific magic item with a lot of lore significance. it is based around these 5 cards:
ignore the fact that some of theme don't have the creature card type. that was a mistake. these 5 are all creatures.

Since we have had no issue completing the flying vehicle challenge/contest.. I wanted to pose the next traditional contest/challenge... the entrants will either receive a youtube video featurette or simply more favorites... either way .. i'm not sure what other prizes to offer... here are the details:

The goal is to capture the immense power and philosophical depth of Ancient India lore through balanced MTG card designs.

The Prompts (Pick One)

The Trimurti / Tridevi: Create a Legendary Creature representing one of the core cosmic functions: Creation, Preservation, or Destruction.
The Astra (Celestial Weapons): Design an Equipment card representing a legendary weapon (like the Brahmastra) that has a massive "Enter the Battlefield" effect or a high equip cost with a game-ending payoff.
Avatar Manifestation: Design a creature with a mechanic that allows it to enter the battlefield in a "lesser" form and eventually "ascend" or transform into its true divine state.
Dharma & Karma: Design an Enchantment (Saga or Class) that rewards players for specific actions or punishes "sinful" gameplay (like attacking or discarding).

Suggested Flavor Mechanics

To help y'alllllll get the "vibe" right, consider but don't feel limited to these existing MTG keywords:

Devotion: Perfect for gods whose power scales with your commitment to their color.
Exalted: Fits the theme of legendary heroes or deities engaging in single combat.
Vigilance / Reach: To represent the omnipresence of the divine.
Incarnation: (From the Lorwyn or Modern Horizons sets) for beings that represent abstract concepts like Justice or Time.

Submission Rules (Example)

Limit: Up to 2 entries per person.
Formatting: Must include a name, mana cost, type line, rarity, and flavor text.
Balance: Aim for "Standard-plus" power levels.... powerful, but not broken!
Deadline: who knows these days lol - probably still ongoing unless you see that i've assigned winners

if pokemon are based on real-word things... then it's possible to go outside and take a photo of something... like a pokedex...

is it possible to go outside and take a photo of something that inspired MTG?

Short Answer

Pokémon has direct, one-to-one inspirations. A pigeon looks like a Pidgey.
MTG has abstract inspirations: mythology, architecture, and natural phenomena.

How do you find Magic out in the real world?

MTG art isn't about direct copies. It's about capturing a mood through architecture, nature, and mythology.

Your Objective This Year

Grab a camera or your phone, find the real-world magic hidden around you, and submit your photos. Every usable photo will go into a blog post and YouTube special.

This is a creative initiative to bridge the gap between MTG and the physical world through a community photography project. I encourage you to participate in a "scavenger hunt" by identifying real-life environments and objects that mirror the high-fantasy aesthetics of the game's various "planes." Bad Mechanics

I was recently intrigued by the incredibly awkward design space that was Epic. It's a bad mechanic in most respects and will probably never be revisited as most of the cards in the original cycle made for pretty poor play experiences. It got me wondering what I could do with it, so I designed a cycle of spells with Epic and it was really fun.

That got me curious, who else has been inspired by bad mechanics to try to make something better?

Does everyone remember Garruk, the Slayer? He was a special planeswalker that was used instead of having a library for an event when M15 came out.

Well id like to see what kind of clever challenge planeswalkers you guys create.

You begin your journey as a Level 1 (Common) and work your way up to Level 100 (Planeswalker).

Getting Started

Create your common creature card to enter this saga.

Then you will receive your first spellweb, which looks like this:

How to Level Up:

You start at the red dot each level with some newly colored dots to choose from.
Select and complete those dots as desired.
Completing a task reveals more dots.
Complete a task on the outer ring to level up and receive a new spellweb.

The Story:

The story accompanies your choices, which means your character's journey could swing wildly from smooth sailing to major setbacks or even death.
You can also start new characters at any time or have multiple simultaneously.

Commander of the Month

Each month (or at least as often as I am able to get around to it) I'll pick a real life Magic Card that is an underplayed commander. Your task is to design a card that would help bring it out of obscurity, a card with so much synergy and potential that if it were printed, the featured commander would see a massive price spike and sell out on every major card buying site, a card that fits so nicely, it would show up at the top of EDHRec's list of synergy for that commander. That, or just design a card you'd like to include in the 99 if you built the commander. This is really just to get some creative juices flowing. Have fun!

I cant see a category where you discuss site problems so i will just talk about it here. Is it slow for anybody else? it takes way longer to load then most other sites, and even when you successfully log in it says that your credentials were wrong? That doesn't stop you from logging in or anything its just confusing. The set feature seems to have been ignored, you cant set thumbnails for them and they no longer count commons, color etc. i also find it a little scummy to require premium to recover an unsaved card, I'm fine with the other monetization but that one seems wrong to me. Also the top cards only having like 1 upvote? there needs to be some incentive to vote on peoples cards, or maybe there just arent many people using this site...

Sorry if this post is annoying I just had to get it off my chest.

A Snail Tale - RPG

You are a snail. Yes thats right, a snail. And you've been living a happy mindless life minding your own business in your world, surrounded by the Great Worldwall, in the shadow of the world tree who has been providing food for as long as you can think or on the beaches of the ocean which provided food on its ground. Until one night a meteor crashed into the ocean while you were eating the delicious plants on its ground.

And then something happened! You became aware of yourself and you even grew a bit in size and are abit faster than before. But alas, the meteor poisoned the waters of the Ocean and now you must find a new home in this forever changed world! But maybe your newly found powers will help you. As an sentient snail you can communicate with other snails and maybe even with other animals.

You start as a snail level 1, which depending on its color has diffrent abilities

White Snail: Starts as a 1/2 creature. They are good at taking damage and defending others. Hard to kill.

May choose between "Defender and +0/+1" or "Vigilance" on level 1.

Blue Snail: Starts as a 1/1 creature. Blue snails are the most intelligent snails and have strong magic.

May choose between "T: Tap target creature" or "UU, T: Deal one damage to any target"

Black Snails start as a 1/1 creature. They are quite poisenous and good at killing things, but dont care for themself.

Black Snails start at level 1 with the Rise ability. It can be used once per fight. "Rise: Put this creature back into play."

Red Snails are the fastest of all snails. They generate heat that can be used to improve themself or to damage the enemy.

Red snails can chose between "+1/0 and haste" and "RR: untap this creature".

Green Snails are the strongest snails. They dont get any special abilities at level 1, but start as a 2/2 creature.

Wanna be part of the snail tale? Then chose the snail you wanna be and create a creature card for your snail. (Common, Single colored).

As you level up and your snail gets stronger it will learn new spells and abilities. However, the things it can learn depend on the color. So for example, "trample" is something the green snail could learn while it would be quite unusual for the blue snail.

Community Mystery Boxes

Step 2: Collect prize (if the box has one)
Step 3: Create and post a mystery box with a 50/50 shot at a prize of your choice and a mystery challenge you create.

The Book of Mormon Y’all

I’m trying to create a Book of Mormon set… and it’s tough. I’ve decided each verse needs a card. I’ve done most of Mosiah, but currently I’m in Alma 1:15. If you want to help, your challenge is to pick work ahead of me. Each card has to have flavor text of a direct quote from the verse you pick. Nephites are Barbarians red. Lamanites are Warriors blue. New type of Heretic, Lawyer and Judge. Jaredite are FuSang, Polynesian or Tibetan (Book of Ether was Ninjas). If you want a challenge and want to help, I’m thinking I have 4/5 more work to do. On my own, another 8 years.

I hate counterspells so much I have designed a new type of blue removal to replace it!

The challenge is, you guessed it, to make cards with my Cancel mechanic. You can change the name of the abillity if you think of a better one. (My card is probably underpowered. (And I noticed that it's an Interrupt).).
Rules:
- Old cards allowed
- Try to make the cards blue, because that's the point.
Prizes:
1st place: 3 favourites
2nd place: 2 favourites
3rd place: 1 favourite
