I have some frightening personal news that is of little consequence to all of you but I feel it worth sharing as you all are the most primed to understand the gravity.

RanshiI have no way of knowing if this is relatable to you all, but I am genuinely scared. I have no means of confirming the security of these files for now, or even if I had remembered to send the finished documentation.

RanshiAs I sent in private to one of my closest friends, “My time on Cardsmith was not just a hobby, nor a creative outlet. I poured heart and soul into most if not every card I designed, and that’s why I wanted to document EVERYTHING before torching page after page. I grew up among peers on that site and found a sense of family among strangers. I know the destruction of the records does not devalue the past nor invalidate what it meant to me and still means now, but if this chapter of my life has been fully lost, I will feel as though a part of my soul was lost with it.”

yomogimaruuVery sorry this happened to you of all people :( I really hope you end up recovering the memory
-
yomogimaruuIf it makes you feel a little I’ll do a little bit of relatable storytime: one time I was using this really potato computer and I was typing notes it for an assignment - the assignment was due literally the next day. I had over 5 pages written and then my power had suddenly went out, and I didn’t save my notes to my cloud. I spent the whole night making up the notes. It still hunts me, I literally always backup my digital work now
-
Mellow_MCDamn that really sucks. I understand, truly, how much each card means to a cardsmith even if they refuse to continue to connect with the site, and having them all just...poof! Has to suck. I am really sorry and I hope that the files are still recoverable.

RanshiI have an update: At the moment, the laptop is still seemingly screwed, but it’s much weirder than I initially assessed. While the root cause is most likely as I predicted, the overall impact seems to be primarily difficulty booting and the screen on the laptop. I went to submit a ticket after plugging it into a different monitor and found there to be a number of driver updates. More news as I learn it.

RanshiUpdate again: Tech support is some nonsense, the person on the phone is either not listening to what I’m saying or obviously googling the issues im describing. I already know what’s wrong at the moment, I need you to tell me how to fix it or otherwise set into motion a technician replacing parts…
-
Mellow_MCI don’t know a lot about computer stuff, I’m still a novice. But if you could explain a little bit more what you know about the issue, maybe I could help a little more. Apart from that, not much I can do.
-
yomogimaruu@Ranshi if Tech Support happens not to know/care about the issues you should take Mellow_MC’s comment in mind! I happen to know that ‘knowledgeable friend’ too and they do know quite a lot about computer parts - the least they can do is tell you what parts need to be replaced
-
RanshiI eventually was able to fix it myself, and so far as I can tell, the files are in tact. I needed to replace the motherboard because of some issues with a particular node.
-
RanshiI feel like despite almost never shutting up about the things I’m good at or passionate about, most people here forget that I’m a computer scientist by training. :p
-
yomogimaruuyou’re right completely forgot you were experienced with computer science LOL
glad the computer was fixed :) -
RanshiAlas, my luck continues to be terrible! Now my PC won’t boot and it’s either a problem with the power supply a problem with the thermal paste or worst of all something even worse that I would need to take a lot of time and money to fix.
-
RanshiOk update:
The problem of not turning on has been fixed. It was the power supply and maybe the paste, which I replaced while rewiring.
Bad news is that now it turns on but won’t boot, and the indicator lights indicate a hardware issue class that has numerous causes.
Either I take it to a repair shop if the quote for fixing it is fair, or I start fresh…

Something unrelated to Cardsmithing and basically everything going on here, but nonetheless something I have a deep need to impart the information of:
One of my friends sent a screenshot of a Twitter Post with a photo of a book saying that 1850s British Cavalry basically spoke in UwU speak. I was suspicious, so I dug up the source, and ITS REAL!!!

"...these aristocratic horsemen were, in the idiom of the day, "plungers", "tremendous swells." They affected elegant boredom yawned a great deal, spoke a jargon of their own pronouncing "r" as "w", saying "vewwy," "howwid," and "sowwy,"..."April 29
