I think it'd be fair for each person who wants to participate to nominate like 3 cards from their own collection, then pick another cardsmith and nominate any number of cards from their collection or something.

Unfortunately I do not think so. For Æ in particular, though, WoTC has stopped using the character due to translation issues.
