In Short * Plan ahead! I worked on the framework for this event for over a month before publishing week one and there were still elements that had to change throughout. Having the structure and schedule in place helped this run much more smoothly …

This is my first time hosting an event of this scale and I wanted to do a write-up of some thoughts on the process. I enjoyed the process of evaluating card design, but I really learned a lot about managing an event like this one and I hope that som…

@spookoops Very possibly, though it likely wouldn't be for some time. I'll talk more about that in the retrospective either tomorrow or Saturday.
-
I appreciate everyone's patience - here are your results! While there were fewer entries this week, every entry offered something compelling for us to chew on. As with last week, each entry had some stand-out cards that were thought-provoking, orig…
-
Just a few hours to go! Thank you all for your entries so far.
-
Do remember that you have until next Friday, August 21st to enter. We opted for a longer window since this challenge is larger in scale.
-
@shadow123 Go for it!

@TerryTags You certainly don't have to stake your claim for the Commander option, but I'm thrilled to hear you're joining us again!
-
@Ranshi - Extant set of your choice, though your cards may imply alternate ‘versions’ of cards. Don’t do Fantasy and Variations on Ravnica necessarily, instead highlight and explore extant mechanics, themes and synergies.Does that answer your questi…

^Right now, turns out! This week proved to be an tricky week to judge. Each submission generally had one or two particularly solid designs that used the art well. By that same token, each of those submissions also had one or two less exemplary incl…

Results are in but I'd like to take a day to put the post together and prepare things for the final week. I hope to have everything up by end-of-day tomorrow. Thank you for your patience!
-
I'm honored! Congrats to all the winners and entrants! For the curious, inspiriting is just a ten-dollar word for "encouraging or enlivening." Learning every day! I know this because I used to read the dictionary for fun
-
@shadow123 Certainly, though be sure you're finished with edits before the deadline! @KorandAngels The '3-color rule' is to broaden your design range. For clarity, the Commander option isn't specifically limited to your cards being in the same deck…
-
@KorandAngels I didn’t message you, but we asked for at least three colors across your four submissions. If you’ve done that you’re in great shape!
-
@shadow123 Consistent to their rarity in their environment, yes. Remember that rarity isn’t always a measure of power, more often it’s a measure of complexity. Does that help?
-
@TheCenterOfTheUniverse The whole ‘set’, as in they can be from different precons of the same run. For this challenge though, the goal is that they’re scaled similarly in power level, not necessarily linked flavorfully. Does that make sense? @bnew0…

@Dizzydude If you’d like to make more than four, please select the four you’d like us to evaluate for the sake of the contest. Feel free to create as inspiration strikes of course, just know we’ll only grade four.
-
Thank you all for your patience - week 4 is up with a delayed deadline to account for the late start. As a reminder, LuckyLooter and I are always open for feedback or inquiries!

This week proved to be a tough challenge (as partially evidenced by far fewer entries than previous weeks) so I wanted to take a moment to explain what we were after and how we looked at entries this week. This is arguably the most difficult concep…
-
Only 2 hours 'til the deadline - thanks for all the great submissions so far!
-
Oops, thanks for the catch y'all! I got it fixed. Do keep working on your time machine though... just in case!
-
What a remarkable show! This week proved especially difficult to judge as there were so many great submissions that covered a broad range of material. In the end, the heats were incredibly close, especially between 1st and 2nd. The top several spots…
-
@shadow123 Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you! I understand the draw of building on past creations but I'd much prefer you to use new ideas.
-
@Ranshi Typically the cards in a vertical cycle do share a color (or colors), so I'd recommend that as your baseline. That said, if you believe you can justify different colors in your cycle, go for it! In short, recommended but not required.
-
To begin, THANK YOU for an amazing set of submissions! We had a blast evaluating and head-scratching with you and I'm pleased to announce our winners. First, a few housekeeping details: * Judging is always subjective, but we aim to hold everyone t…

This challenge will be closed for entries in 15 minutes! Get your submissions in quickly - I'm a stickler for deadlines
-
@bnew07 Correct! You cards aren't required to be precisely 'on theme,' I'm just interested that they fit holistically in the set. @Ranshi It's not expressly necessary but I'd encourage you to find suitable placeholder art if nothing else. In fairnes…

@Suicidal_Deity nailed it with several common ones - nicely done! What has helped me the most has been taking the time to look up cards with similar syntax to what I'm trying to do. Making a direct damage spell? Pop some of the key text into Gather…
