Risky @ningyounk - Heedless Spellcaster - Winner of the Risky category 1. Yes. 2. Yes. Although hard to find a direct comparison, the potential upside of the effect is enticing enough to warrant a drawback. 3. Yes. The (potentially large) random num…

Disclaimer: I am not secretly ninyouNK and any feedback I gave below was written before reading any of the card comments, despite the fact that we seem to agree on basically everything :P Introduction: While looking at these cards I felt a bit unea…

Thanks Grimshac! The deadline for submissions has now passed. You may still submit cards if you'd like, but I can't guarantee it will be considered! I should be posting the results tomorrow night
-
Which art/border do you guys like better?
-
@Zaleramancer - No problem. Use any keyword you like, but explain it in the card comments!
-
@Kian_Killer - It's standard HTML markup. Just look for any HTML image tutorial @Sonicfan5150 - I prefer Might of Oaks still because of instant speed, but I was mostly mentioning it because it was printed earlier, not because I thought it was better

Perhaps it would help if I renamed the categories as Risky => "self-destructively risky", Non-risky=>"risky only when opponent playing insanity cards" XD
-
@LeoVeracruse and others: the thing that makes something risky / non-risky is whether the insanity can unintentionally increase. Since it is a drawback mechanic and not an offensive mechanic, assume your opponent will not be increasing your insanity…
-
@LeoVeracruse - Actually, it's in the non-risky category. There is no way with this card for your insanity to increase unless you want it to.

-
I may have gone overboard :P Just doing what pirates do... looting, plundering, extorting... and if needed parleying
-
@Grimshac - If you feel it's justified by the awesomeness of the card you want to make, you can bend the rule to include insanity counters on the player. But in general the idea of the mechanic is that it should be something that comes and goes, in …

And Enlarge is arguably balanced against Might of Oaks
-
Balanced against: Duress -> False Dilemma Sensei's Divining Top -> Gypsy's Divining Cards Dark Confidant -> Gaea's Confidant Divert -> Technicality
-
@CrucibleOfHate Well you did place second! If I were weighing all three of my criteria evenly, then with those edits it would have gotten first. However, since I was really focusing on flavor, I still would have given it to Mordeau, even with my sug…

It may be a technicality (actually it was the whole reason for the contest in the first place), but the first requirement is that the art must be public domain or copyleft art, such as creative commons. This art is not published as such http://ant…

Yea, the podcast idea was just because - as you said - it would probably be much faster to just talk it out, and while you're at it, might as well record it!

Here's an idea - since you guys are discussing these so much, maybe you could turn that into something to share - whether textual or even like a podcast style recording of a discussion about the cards! If you like that idea, I would be glad to help …

Lijikul - I am favoriting some cards now, but please message me with some ideas of what card you would like me to make for you
-
Hey guys! Thanks for all the entries and sorry I didn't have much time this week to come online and bump/contribute. So I have feedback for everyone... please excuse my overly opinionated feedback! It's just a very odd flavor prompt, so my feedback …
-
I appreciate all the thought and discussion that went into analyzing the cards, even if it took longer than usual!
-
I would judge this one if I wasn't competing in it!
-
Well, if you bump it up to max three entries, I'll make another
-
@Faiths_Guide - Yes, the flavor of the card is great! You even managed to go back in time and choose the right set symbol
-
Non-evergreen keywords are ok if the mechanic is flavorfully relevant enough that it could be used heavily in the set. For this reason, my example cards used the mechanics soulbond (representing love), shadow (representing a covert struggle) and fat…
-
@Tomigon , for this set's flavor, the typical themes of war and fighting were supposed to be replaced by themes of oppresison and covert rebellion. Also, red was supposed to emphasize passion and freedom, not bloodthrist
-
Both are unconventional, although one does have firebreathing :P http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/xen-the-serene-flame-2 http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/tiamat-9
