Uncommon:

Here's something else interesting: mana labels. Restricted mana that can only be used for certain purposes is pretty common, but this is different. This mana has a type label for tracking purposes. Then, either the same card or other cards add extr…

This one is kinda iffy because of formatting constraints, but I think alternate cost plainswalkers are interesting unexplored design space.

I love no-mana-cost spells. Here's a new one for this contest: EDIT: I forget the "when Flametongue Salamander enters the battlefield" part.

You could get mostly the same effect without a lot of the rules headaches with something like this: "When Unstable Mine enters the battlefield, put 14 blast counters on it. At the beginning of each end step, remove a number of blast counters equal …

This one's sort of unusual:

Something weird, because it doesn't really go anywhere else.

Equip almost anything with this wall of text:
-
This is pretty twisty, though admittedly not that great in multiplayer.

I had a thought when I designed this card: I wonder if you could generalize the "overkill" aspect of this card to burn or even creatures. Something like this: Overkill X - [effect] If damage assigned to a creature by this [spell/permanent] cause…

I actually got a decent one on the first try: Source: Related card:

Re: Bestow Vital Energy: You could get rid of most of those rulings just by giving the target creature "At the beginning of your upkeep, if this creature has a time counter on it, remove a +1/+1 counter and a time counter from this creature." Bey…

A common rat... ..and a rat infestation that's hard to get rid of:

Another one!

Here's some of my weirder, more experimental stuff: Cosmic Nexus, messing with damage sources: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/cosmic-nexus Anomalous Rift, an "enchantment" that's oddly difficult to remove: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/anomalous-rift…

@FblthpTheStormCrow Thanks for noticing me, senpai! I'd like a follow as my reward for this contest.

Kamagawa mechanics are pretty horrible in general, but let's try making a spirit demon with super high recursion potential. EDIT: Timmy can't hog the spotlight, so I added something for Johnny, too.

@Luigifan You probably want to have all the face-down cards turn face-up BEFORE the decision to prevent damage or not. Otherwise, static abilities of any cards that were turned face down won't function.
-
@Faiths_Guide: Now that I think about it, trying to replace destruction directly with regeneration is kind of an interesting rules quandary. Are there any real cards that do it? If the creature has lethal damage marked on it, replacing a "death" wi…

@Luigifan Platinum Emperion, not Platinum Angel. It has the ability "your life total can't change," so damage still affects you (and any triggers that rely on damage will still occur), but your life total doesn't actually change. Same deal with Ange…

2-5-3-4-5 The first ever blue-green goblin! Let's harvest creatures for their static abilities, because they won't be useful for much else once this goblin is done with them. http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/goblin-cryogenist

@Luigifan I don't think there's actually any way for damage to be rendered irrelevant to creatures, but it can happen to players through cards like Angel's Grace or Platinum Emperion. I don't think there's a lot of design space for such a mechanic, …

This one relies on the quirk in the rules that you don't normally get priority during the cleanup step, so you have to do a little work to get your super-powered Drain Life. http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/reapers-entreaty

The timing restriction isn't explicitly stated, but it's not going to do anything outside of your upkeep step, so hopefully this works. http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/pandemonium-parade

@Tomigon I'm not sure, really. It would need to be playtested to know for sure, but keep in mind that you're probably not going to be able to play a planeswalker and Fungal Automaton in the same turn, so you would at least have a turn to destroy the…
