@Platypusburger It can block if it doesn't attack. If you're attacking, you're declaring it as an attacker, and so it can not block. Standard combat rules apply, except that now you can attack as well as your opponent.
-
@jazipa It's the difference between an ability dealing damage and the creature itself dealing damage.
-
@Gelectrode Ooo very nice. I like that stipulation that could be very powerful depending on circumstances.
-
Yeah I think you're right. Let me change that real quick EDIT: Fixed!
-
Hopefully this is along the lines of what you were looking for.

MTG

I think what we're getting at is the Shelled Carrier gives another creature deathtouch, whereas Toxic Gypsy gives them -1/-0. Why would you ever attack with a creature that benefitted your opponent and not you?
-
I love short stories!!! Please do!!! Would it be alright (if I ever get back to writing for a bit) if I do the same on here?
-
Blight is the ability, Blighted is the condition. Not sure why it's positive and negative, other than it's a plague-like, and some creatures benefit from that.
-
Idk if it's too late to enter or not, but here's a card just in case. (I know it's spelled "dire" but I went for the pun.)
-
@ningyounk On a different note, I made this as a possible idea for a card that fits the art theme, life-matters theme, and emotion sub-theme. The idea is that the card's cost is essentially your life loss, and the flavor is that this is your emo…
-
@Lujikul Ooo that's good. Obviously nothing is set in stone, I just liked the idea of flashing a card and then exiling it. I felt like it embodied that emotional upheaval many people can experience.
-
If we're going for emotional tie-ins, maybe we could have a mechanic that focuses on that a bit as well? Something like: Outburst (mana cost less than regular cost): If you cast this card for its Outburst cost, you may cast it as though it had flas…

@ningyoung Absolutely, I was just giving that theme of Death as an example to show a cycle. Maybe instead you could do a cycle of Creation, where you go through the steps to show how art is made? Like spark/idea, planning, painting/sculpting/etc., b…
-
I love the idea of emotions being highly influential in this set, especially considering it's so focused on art. I think it would be cool (idk if it would be realistic or not) to have cycles focusing specifically on emotions and dealing with them. F…

I like the idea of the frame looking like a painting frame with the art spilling into the text box a bit.
-
So this is basically Sliver methodology with an infect mechanic? Cool, I think my only question is is any creature with Blight, Blighted? Because when a creature with Blight fights another creature, that creature gains the condition "Blighted", much…

A couple that I made that might be commanders. Chaos would be more suited than Kilne, but still.
-
I like these kinds of cards because they allow you basically one trick to win, and if that doesn't pan out, it's game over. I love the flavor text and the art is amazing. I have no real critiques honestly, this is really well done.
-
@Lujikul I love the story and the name. Both are really cool and a great setup for the theme of the set.
-
@Lujikul Ooo that's awesome.
-
@Tigersol 1) I agree with not having solely life gain, and that's why we've been discussing some other stuff as well. a. We've touched on science and inventions and as I understood it we'll definitely be adding that, in whatever form it may be. b. P…
-
@NokiSkaur It has flying AND deathtouch? I thought it was "or"? That's what my statement was predicated on, is that you get only one ability (not sure how that's determined btw, can you just choose whichever one you want whenever?) and a 2/3 for 4 m…
-
@NokiSkaur I like the idea behind this, but I think the double toughness life loss is way too brutal. If you return it just once from your graveyard, you're losing 6 life for a 2/3 creature, that would only give your other creatures +1/+1.
-
@Cyndi4U It was a mechanic they had in the Conspiracy draft expansion. You could become the Monarch, and lots of cards gave you abilities either when you became it or while you were it.
-
I feel like we're almost approaching a place where we're trying to create a new format, where life is the primary focus rather than mana. I think it's cool, though idk if that's the goal lol
-
I think that would be really cool. I was saying it would be really cool if you had the creature, and it had a mechanic that it was built around, but obviously that would be specifically a monocycle and would require 5 new mechanics, with each color …
-
The idea for the flavor of the mechanic is that the creature is forgoing damage to raise up another creature, to ascend it, if you will.
-
I really like the idea of the Muses being a focal point of the set. Maybe not gods but perhaps a cycle of Legendary creatures. I think it would be really cool (completely unrealistic, but really cool) if we had 5 muses, each embodying a mechanic bui…
-
@Lujikul That makes sense. I'm terrible at balancing so I probably shouldn't even be working with balancing mechanics lol, but only one way to learn I suppose. @ningyoung I like that iteration as well. And that flavor is really cool, I hadn't thou…
