    Couldn't find artist name, sorry
  • Entry 3, using Pillage:

I changed the wording of pillage a bit to reflect how recent cards have been printed with similar effects.
Also, if you really didn't get it, the flavor text is a play on the "rape, pillage, burn" phrase

I HAD to do something with this art, it felt very Izzet.
  • Entry 1
    Using "Vanguard"

    Reveling Cutthroat

I'm back with my 7th entry using Vanguard:

My 8th entry, using Pillage (with an X value!), and I'm also trying to embrace the new "Add mana." format that is being introduced with Dominaria. It feels weird formatting it like that but it does take up a lot less space on the card.

    My 9th, utilizing Rouse:

  • I guess I really am a black mana enthusiast at heart, all 9 of my entries so far have used black in them except for Paradoxical Marksmage

My 10th entry using counter strike. I wanted to make something just as terrifying to block as it is to be blocked by.

  • Can I have until ~12:00 AM Est (8:00 PM Pst) to make my entries @Corwinnn? I already have them designed and I have the art for almost all of them, I just haven't had a chance to physically upload them to the site yet.

@KrampisZman - Sure, I'll start the judging now and then consider late entries at that time, so expect results late tonight, or early tomorrow!

@Corwinnn Alright, cool! I will be editing this comment as I post my entries (there's a lot of them, so hang tight)

Both of these mechanics fit the idea of red wizards, so I thought I would flavorfully connect them.

    image
Restore feels like a mechanic that's better when you can do it multiple times. Flickering seems like the best way to acheive this. I added the restrictive cost and upkeep-only activation so that you can't make combat all weird or abuse the ETB to easily until the late game.

    image
There isn't much of a story here other than I thought it would be fun to pump the dorks. I didn't want to get too many counters out of this aura boi, so I gave him a slightly larger toughness.

    image
Manalink is just a good mechanic with pingers.

    image
Yet another pinger. Frosttouch creatures really like to damage creatures whenever possible, so I thought implementing a way to consistently do that makes sense. Block? Your thing gets tapped. Don't block? Your thing gets tapped and you take damage. Pick your poison.

    image
This clearly needed to be a card.

    image
Was this mechanic designed for vampires? I'm pretty sure it was made for vampires.

    To parents with unwanted children:

This card is based on my childhood friend's dad. He was a drill sargent in the army after a . R.I.P. Mister Smith.

    Entries are closed!
  • 96 entries is a LOT! Look for results tomorrow/today!!
  • @Corwinnn I'm getting excited just thinking about it :D
  • Regardless what the results are, this was a fun and successful contest. Thank you to all participants who used my restore ability, and thank you to all the cardsmiths who was kind enough to allow us fellow cardsmiths to use their custom mechanics. I had fun making cards for this contest, I wish I would have entered more cards than I did :)
  • Here are ALL the glorious winners you've all been waiting for!

I do have to say, there were some tough decisions because y'all made some really nice cards!

Here are top cards for each of the Mechanix...

    Honorable Mentions

    Mushroom Marauders by @TheCenterOfTheUniverse
So awesome! If these guys were Fungus Pirates there might be a different card here!

    Tillage Elf by @sorinjace
Great art, and it almost feels like it would show up in a random pack! Nice work!

    Barter in Bark by @atrus159
Great name for a card! If Crypt of Relics wasn't such a good card, this would have competed for top honors for the restore mechanic!

A bunch of cards by @KrampisZman
One third of the top cards came from the brain of this Cardsmith, and for some reason, I just want to be a Pirate!!

    Third Place
    Ternal, the Lionhearted by @Alchemist
I was having a hard time falling in love with this mechanic until I saw this card! Great use of Defiant, and making it become more than just a way to make the creature bigger. It brings a sophisticated level of strategy to a mechanic that has the potential to really change how the game is played.

    Second Place
    Crypt of Relics by @KalamMekhar
How is this not a real card? This reminds me of classic artifacts from days of yore! This could be a deck staple, it could be a sideboard savior, it could be a draft king! Top to bottom, I think this is solid and a great use of the mechanic.

    First Place
    Petulant Analyst by @Faiths_Guide
This one is a flavor win through and through! Art, name and mechanics all come together to make a really fun card to build a deck around, or better yet, just insert it into any Izzet deck you currently have and BOOM!

  • @Corwinnn hey, being a Pirate is alright with me! :)

Congratulations to the @Winners and other @Mentionables!
