That said, tomorrow is the final day of this contest to make your last minute entries if you haven't already or forgot to put a card in you might have for it. Thank you so much to everyone involved for the cool ocean themed cards!!
NO MORE ENTRIES! THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED FOR JUDGING. PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH ME GUYS AND I WILL HAVE THE RESULTS POSTED HERE FOR YOU ASAP IN A TIMELY MANNER.
Here are the results to the An Ocean Between Us Contest!
Before I 'dip in' to the top 3 cardsmiths, I would like to point out there was several amazing cards 'dropped in the deep end' of this contest that made 'quite a splash.' (ok I'm done now with the puns, got that out of my system.) Here are the honorable mentions, as I promised if there was enough entries (and there most definitely was!)
I loved everything about this card, and it was a surprising entry for madstokie as normally madstokie is known for their humorous cards. I wanted to give this more but because it simply said "Unblockable" I couldn't give it a higher place, everything else was flavorful and awesome. Congrats on the cool card though!
Ok this card is amazing. I would run it. I just didn't like how the text ran right into the border on the first sentence going into this thing. It also had a large gap at the bottom of the card that felt like it should have had some flavor text, where was the flavor text? Other than that, I truly liked this card, it just felt really unfinished and I felt it could have been dropped in the casting cost and rarity of the card slightly.
This card had me at Riverfinder lol. I knew it was going to be a Merfolk before I even saw the card itself! I had a couple nitpicks about it being a 3 drop 1/1 that gave an opponent's largest creature a +1/+1 counter when this attacks. It felt like this creature's body should have been larger for such a payout when there are other creatures that are uncommon and unblockable but are bigger than +1/+1. It's not a big thing, I just felt like this should have been a 2/2 and maybe the cmc should be 2uu when its power and toughness is raised. Really sweet creature though, and it was enough to get an honorable mention!
Ok so this is what I'm talking about. I loved the name, art and feel behind this card. I just felt that this card's layout of the rules text and flavor text itself could have been better. Small nitpicks, but enough to land you an honorable mention. Nicely done, mate!
Here are the winners!!
3rd place Tied with @bnew07 with Stealthy Submersible and @MrRansom with Riptide Crusader!
Congratulations to everyone who earned an honorable mention or placed! I enjoyed each of the cards you guys made. For prizes, see the rules section, and until my next contest drops, see you on mtgcs discord or the forums, and happy cardsmithing!
Woah ! Didn't except to be first , it surprised me when I see others cards like The Azure Guardian or others... But.... thanks ! I'm very surprised and I very enjoy this contest you host ! Well , I'll send you the cards to fay here later . Thanks you so much.
@sorinjace - You understood my mechanic on Riverfinder completely wrong. It does not give +1/+1 counters to opponents' creatures, it gives counters to another attacking creature with greater power.
Servant (Whenever this creature attacks, put a +1/+1 counter on target attacking creature with greater power.)
Which means that whenever it attacks with another creature you control, if that creature has greater power than Riverfinder's power, you put a +1/+1 on that creature you control.
So it's a CMC 3 unblockable 1/1 that can give counters to your other creatures you control (or to your teammate's creatures if it's Two-Headed Giant for example) whenever they attack together as long as their power is greater than Riverfinder's power.
Cool! Didn’t expect one of the random water-based cards I had laying around in my collection to win anything! Thanks! I can see what you mean with it looking like it needs flavor text, though. When I made the card I must have just not thought to.
@TenebrisNemo I caught that after I posted my comment yes. I liked it more so once I realized its ability. I still believe the current version should be 2uu 2/2 uncommon, or lower this to common rarity. I would play this for sure if it was a real card or in an all custom card draft/deck/cube.

sorry I couldn't find the artist
