New Contest Format (If you're interested)

So, I'll get straight to the point.

1. Contest maker chooses the theme, card limit.

2. You can only have as many cards as per tournament-style ie, 2, 4, 8, 16, etc.
NOTE: THIS DEPENDS HIGHLY ON HOW YOU COMPETE (THE ABOVE INSTANCE IS FOR 1V1'S) IF YOU HAVE 2 V 2'S, IT MUST BE IN POWERS OF FOUR- 4, 16, 64, ETC.

3. After the initial post, dictating your own custom rules, the match begins.

4. Make a separate Discussion for each match, where THE PEOPLE VOTE.

5. This is very communal- the winners are ultimately chosen by the people in the forums, not the competition owner.

6. Unless I missed a rule, everything is fair game!

Comments

  • Rule two is not very clear, and yet it seems to be the most important part.
  • @CrucibleOfHate I thought that'd be a problem. The idea is, that all of the entry cards take part in a tournament-style battle, chosen by the community. So, if it's teams of 1, the only way to do a proper tourney-like match is to have only 2, 4, 8, 16, etc. entries. If you wouldn't mind, maybe you could help with the wording?
  • Simple. "There must be an even number of entries" covers all possibilities. However, if the winner is decided by community vote, why would you have it in Tournament format in the first place? Also, in a Tournament, I feel it would make more sense to pit Cardsmiths against eachother with individual challenges for each match. This makes even more sense for teams, unless you meant multiple cards from one smith. (Which would require more resources, but bleh)

    1. Not all even would work; How would a 1v1 tourney work with 6 contestants?

    2. Tourney format so that people voting have a few options at a time.

    3. You can pit Cardsmiths against each other Tourney Style, or individual cards. Depends on the challenge.
  • In a 1v1, each of the six entrants would be pitted against a random foe, creating 3 matches in the first round, then a final immediately with three competitors. It's just three cards, after all. But since I do see your point, "There must be a number of teams entering equal to a power of two." This covers all the 2 member and 3 member teams as well. However, it would also mean that each team would have the same number of participants. Sort of expected, I guess, but jyst thought I'd mention it.
  • A mathematician always seeks the simplest form.
  • The fighting by vote seems like a popularity contest so more of an election than tournament style competition. How about taking a selection of each of two player's cards that seem balanced, printing them out into decks and have actual duel with them. Best two of three would give a clear "winner" between them with no voting involved.
  • @Biblio1 You know, that's not half bad. Maybe. This forum seemed to be a fail, anyways.
  • @Dudedaniel

    Yea, wonder why it "fails".

And Biblio1's idea does not work at all. How is that objective? You put a card into a crowd of other cards, check if does anything to that crowd, then call it good/bad? Not to mention that the sample size will be tiny and the decks it will play against will create a natural vacuum unless it is literally paired against all sorts of decks, played by different pilots.
