Arigregia: Magic vs. Technology!

edited April 2016 in Custom Card Sets
Hi! So this is an idea I've had for a while now, and I'm beginning to think it has enough potential for the community to have fun with it! So here's the backstory:

Arigregia is a harsh, foreboding plane with very little magic. The plane's mana manifests only through large, chaotic magestorms, which, in ancient history, were inaccessible to the plane's sentient races (Humans, Goblins, and Vedalken). However, in an age before the Mending, the plane was visited by a planeswalker named Vix, who taught them how to reach the storms and harvest their magical energy. After Vix left, however, one faction of beings emerged, led by the power-hungry Ses Lestid, and began hoarding the magic, using it to annihilate anyone who dared oppose them. Over millennia, these self-appointed Nobles dominated the plane, using their magic to build immense flying cities from which to oversee their Serfs (in Arigregia, "serf" is short for "surface-dweller") as well as keep all magic separate from the surface world.

The Serfs, living out their lives tilling the land in service to their noble masters, seldom cause trouble or try to rise against the nobles. This is because over time, the nobles have eliminated all historical records pertaining to "the Rise" as they call it. Instead, they propagated the myth that a great sky deity, Deomon, selected the nobles as his chosen people, and thus were given magic and residence in the sky by divine right.

However, the Serfs are not powerless. Without magic to protect themselves from the surface world's feral fauna or help them work, they were driven to make great advances in technology, creating robots, farming machines, and all sorts of other inventions. The nobles, taking note of this, decided to use these robots for their amusement as well, creating a gigantic arena known as The Radion, where nobles and serfs alike watch epic duels between robots, and very large rewards are given to the winners.

Incited by these rewards, a faction of Riggers emerged from the serfs, hellbent on dominating the Radion. These Riggers spend their lives crafting bigger and deadlier machines than their peers, in hopes of winning fame and fortune; however, they also constantly sabotage and assassinate each other in their lust for riches.

All this has existed for ages, in an uneasy cycle of masters and servants; recently, however, a serf named Dren Xero infiltrated the nobles' capital, and upon learning the truth about the nobles' power, returned to the surface and began to muster an army of Rebels. These freedom fighters are trying to find a way to bring down the flying cities and return magic to the populace.

Sounds interesting? Maybe? If so, I'd love to get some help with designing cards for the set. Here are the mechanics and colors for the various factions:

Nobles: white, blue, and black

Mechanic: Aura Swap (example)

Serfs: white, green, and blue

Mechanic: ??? (open for suggestions)

Riggers: red, black, and blue

Mechanic: Contraptions (still trying to implement them)

Rebels: green, white, and black

Mechanic: Collude (new mechanic! Example")

Surface Fauna: green, white, red

Thanks in advance! I really hope the community has fun with this!
