Embodiment of a Song (Judging Phase)
Please read everything before you enter!
Welcome to the Judging Page for the Embodiment of a Song contest! In this contest, I challenged smiths to help me make some cards based on songs! I got many outstanding entries, but I don't have the time to choose! As such, I'd like you to help judge cards for me! There are three categorized genre sets for voting. The card from each genre set with the most points will be declared a "winner". The best card out of the three "winners" will be the Main Prize winner! Here are the genre sets:
Welcome to the Judging Page for the Embodiment of a Song contest! In this contest, I challenged smiths to help me make some cards based on songs! I got many outstanding entries, but I don't have the time to choose! As such, I'd like you to help judge cards for me! There are three categorized genre sets for voting. The card from each genre set with the most points will be declared a "winner". The best card out of the three "winners" will be the Main Prize winner! Here are the genre sets:
- Rock/Folk
- Electronic/Pop/Hip-Hop
- Classical/Orchestral/Video Game/World
To Judges
- Winners will be determined by points.
- When judging, give cards a score from one to ten (decimals in the tenths allowed). Make sure to put the genre set you're judging with your (set of) vote(s)!
Since people are confused, here's an example:
Breaking the Habit: 9.5/10. Awesome card, but it's pretty much a Pacifism that costs one more mana. - Cards are judged on a per genre set basis. To elaborate, don't put a card from the Rock/Folk genre set and the Electronic/Pop/Hip-Hop genre set in the same set of votes!
- You may vote for up to three cards per genre set. In your vote, the card with the highest score will get 5 points, the card with the second highest will get 3, and the card with the lowest gets 1.
- You may change your vote at any time.
- Try to avoid unfair voting. Don't vote a card good just because it's your friend's or something.
- Do not judge for syntax or errors. If you can understand what the card's supposed to do, judge it by that.
- Judge for balance, creativity, and the like. Look out for those hidden gems!
- We're judging cards, not songs. If you dislike a song, don't take it out on the card based on it.
- If you want, provide a description of why you think a card is good. It can be any length.
- Don't overthink it!
To Those Who Entered the Contest
- You can't vote for your own entries!
- If you don't see your card, it may have been Disqualified for any of the following reasons: Song is not allowed, I know you personally (primarily to @Elektronikcraft), entry is not an actual card, card doesn't belong to you, entry is late, etc. If you feel I forgot your entry, send me a PM!
- Don't fuss if your card isn't voted for!
Tiebreaker Procedures
- The card that I like the most out of the tie wins!
- If I can't choose, the card @Elektronikcraft likes the most wins!
- If he can't choose, the card with the highest mean score wins!
- If somehow, there is still a tie after that, I'll just throw them into a randomizer
Prizes
- Category Prize Winner: 3 favs; card remade for @Tommia, @JBYT_SmashBrothers, or Wins Collaborative; showcased on Random Card on @JBYT_LoadedTommy
- Main Prize Winner: An additional 2 favs; I'll try to make a card or cycle based off of the entry
- Consolation Prize: Favorite from Tommia, card may still be remade!

Come to the Table, Michael Card (classical)
The Card: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/come-to-the-table
The Song:
Rock - http://mtgcardsmith.com/user/Corwinnn/sets/8925
Electronic - http://mtgcardsmith.com/user/Corwinnn/sets/8942
Classical - http://mtgcardsmith.com/user/Corwinnn/sets/8943
My vote for rock is:
1st (10/10) - Black Hole Sun - Simple, beautiful (and I like the song)
2nd (9/10) - This (Too) Shall Pass - The execution has a couple of wonks, and I'm not a big fan of the flip mechanic to begin with, but the idea and how it matches the song is just too cool to ignore.
3rd (8/10) - Confrontation - Right to the point... but it's a bit confusing counting untapped creatures during your upkeep. It would make more sense I think counting all creatures during an upkeep, or untapped creatures during an end step, like Citadel of Pain
Here is the remade Confrontation

Rock/Folk:
1st (3pts) - Black Hole Sun - Great song/card flavor match. Well balanced CMC and color match vs. effect. No mistakes. Could be real. All around favorite.
2nd (2pts) - Confrontation - Great song/card flavor match. Well balanced CMC and color match vs. effect. No mistakes. Could be real.
3rd (1pt) - Storm the Sorrow - Great song/card flavor match. Well balanced CMC and color match vs. effect. Slight format error (tap symbol comes before text in costs).
Honorable Mention - What's Left of the Flag - Great song/card flavor match. Steep cost vs. effect (triple white!). Some format issues in final ability.
Electronic/Pop/Hip-Hop:
1st (3pts) - Lunera Anisimov - Great song/card flavor match. Well balanced CMC and color match vs. effect. Slight format error (should be a bite counter, not token). Could be real. All around favorite.
2nd (2pts) - Angel of the Skyways - Great song/card flavor match. Well balanced CMC and color match vs. effect. Possible format error (At the beginning of your upkeep?). Could be real.
3rd (1pt) - The Other - Great song/card flavor match. Slightly undercosted. Complicated, potentially confusing wording.
Classical/Orchestral/Video Game/World:
1st (2pts) - Noche Acosador - Great song/card flavor match. Well balanced CMC and color match vs. effect. Rarity disparity (should probably be uncommon). Could be real.
I only chose one card and awarded 2 points for the final category since there were only three entries. Good work everyone!
I'd also like to note that a number of cards could've gotten higher votes from me had it not been for formatting errors. Grammar and formatting is of the utmost importance on Magic cards... I had to grade with that in mind.
I apologize. I know you mentioned that above, but it just seems so... odd. I think that as a writer and game designer, it's difficult for me to disconnect and view formatting, grammar, and syntax as, well... unnecessary. Perhaps your point was just to have others give you ideas?
