How do you play with custom cards?

Hello everyone! Firstly, I'm new here and love this place, the creativity is astounding and the people are very friendly.

I was hoping everyone could share if and how they actually use custom cards in games. Do you bring them into your playgroup? What formats do you typically play them in? Do you limit the number of custom cards?

Thanks for the insights, looking forward to adding custom cards to my family deck brewing!

  • I use the playtester on tappedout, include another card in its place and treat it like my custom card.

You can also print the images, put them inside a sleeve with a real card and playtest with paper cards. If you want something more permanent, you can size it right and glue it to a junk card you don't need.

I play multiplayer cube draft with a couple of custom cards in it. I print card image in normal mtg card size, and cut it out. Then spray glue on the back, then paste it on cards you don't need anymore. Then insert that card in sleeve. I use same sleeve for all cards in the cube, so we can't tell the difference if they're face-downed.
  • A quick and easy way to do it online in a real game (for free!) against other decks is to upload your cards to Untap.in
  • @Faiths_Guide oh wow, I did not realize UnTap allowed that! :O

I'm thinking of trying to get my playgroup to try some custom Commanders and Tiny Leaders, and the Eldrazi Titan contest on here definitely got me thinking about having some Eldrazi fun too :) We like the more informal formats in my family, so this fits quite nicely.
  • Wait, so in Untap, I can make a 0 mana 20/20 trample double strike vigilance You may have any number of them in your deck. Seems OP and not very fun to play against custom cards.
