State of Mind
Hi everyone! I'm finally back! (Hopefully. I'm pretty sure I'm back for good though)
To everyone that took part in my last contest, I apologize about that. I'll resolve that shortly. Anyway, onto a new idea: I've been working on a new mechanic, and I want to see what you guys do with it.
Mentality - [insert cost/trigger here if necessary] Reveal the top card of your library. If [insert condition here], [effect]. Then shuffle your library.
This effect can be stuck on an instant/sorcery, it can be an ETB effect, it can even be an upkeep trigger! Now then, onto some rules:
1 - "realistic" art please. No unglued stuff, and nothing that looks like it couldn't have been printed in modern. Oh yeah, I'm also picky about grammar and stuff too.
2 - Well...actually, I guess #1 is the only real rule. Anyone can submit any number of entries. Well, have fun smithing!

I decided to remove "Then shuffle your library." Hope you don't mind..
The issue with mentality as you worded it is that it doesn't seem to word in as an Activated, Static, Triggered ability.
As an activated keyword ability, it would have to be consistent, something like
----
"Menatliy [cost] (Reveal the top card of your librbary, [condition that had to be the same for every mentality ability], [effect that would have to be the same for every mentality ability]. Activate Mentaility only as a sorery.)"
----
Then the card might be able to reference "when you pay this cards mentality cost..." or something. However, there would be no flexibility for the condition and effect. Every time mentality would be referenced, it would have to trigger off the same condition and provide the same effect. Or you could have it as an activated ability worded as
----
"Menatliy [cost] (Reveal the top card of your librbary. Activate Mentality only as a sorcery.)"
----
Then the card could then have "Whenever you reveal the top card of your library, if [insert condition here], [insert effect here]." as an ability and it could reference activating/paying the cost of mentality, which isn't far off from your original intent.
Or you could do it as a Triggered ability and have
----
"Mentality (Whenever [insert trigger] reveal the top card of your librbary.)"
----
Then, the card would be able to have "Whenever you reveal the top card of your library, if [insert condition here], [insert effect here]." This also applies to if mentality was static and it would be worded
----
"Mentality ([Insert time to activate] reveal the top card of your librbary.)"
----
As an ability word, mentality works much better. The only issue is that ability words can't just sit as a card ability with no explanation (e.g. you can;t just say "Rally" on a card without adding any extra text, but you can say "Annihilator #" without any extra text) and they require a certain condition to be met (e.g. "Whenever this creature and two or more creatures attack...") before their effects activate. So for my version of Mentality, the condition is the top card of your library being revealed.
The 'State of Mind' flavor is meant to be in the sense that the state of mind is determined by the card you reveal. The effect that triggers based on weather or not a card is revealed says weather it's a good, bad, etc. state of mind.
(Also, for anyone else reading this thread, I've edited the beginning a little bit.)
