Now You See Me
This is a contest themed around Illusions (the creature type), many of which are unified around the ability
"When [CARDNAME] becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice it."
Most of the creatures with this ability are just undercosted beatsticks (Phantasmal Bear, Illusionary Servant, Phantasmal Dragon), which isn't very interesting: the goal of this contest is to do something else that plays with this ability.
Dismiss Into Dream

is a good, simple example, and so is Illusionary Armor
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=370701
but feel free to do anything that plays around with benefits that avoid its targets; Death By Dragons
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=229988
and this one I just made

are also in the vein I was thinking of.
Don't be afraid to do a creature; just avoid doing a beatstick and you'll do fine. Contest closes on Sunday, and as always, happy smithing!

(I'm probably going remake it though since I feel it is a bit OP. I was probably not thinking about the cost when I put down the abilities.)

The theme is the Illusion ability, (sac when targeted) and variations on it (Ilusionary Armor). Obviously Death By Dragons isn't a literal illusion card (and it might have been a confusing example), but if it was
Choir of Nightmares 6U
Sorcery
Every player except target player puts a 5/5 Illusion creature with flying and "[Illusion]" onto the battlefield.
the idea that you're victimizing people for seeing through the illusion shows up better.
Perhaps a better way to explain it would be 'make spells or creatures that care who or what you target'.

Tide of Fate is a really nice twist on Duneblast style wipes, and inverting the Illusion ability is very clever. A simple, clean card.

I really, really adore this card; combining Prowess with the Illusion ability is a great move. I kinda wish it had some kind of evasion, though I guess it's not so hard to slap a Distortion Strike on it or something. I'm not crazy about the art, but the card itself is great!

This is an interesting suite of punishment effects, and they're all pretty balanced. Multi-target spells are pretty rare and the cost of that one is steep, the ping adds up gradually over time, and the card advantage is slow but steady. I'd definitely run this in my Wydwen EDH deck.

Super cute. Love the flavor text, and it adds an interesting touch not just to targeting spells, but to the whole game; "You SURE you wanna block?". Not quite sure it should be hybrid (1U to cast makes more sense to me) but red does have Ball Lightning style creatures, so I guess it works. Love it!

Great flavor, and an interesting take on the Illusion ability. I think you could probably get away with just having it cost X2UU for X counters (at the 4UU level it's competing with Sphinx of Jwar Isle, which is not a competition it wins). Great card, though, and 'weaker than SoJI is a pretty low bar.

There are a couple of problems with this card, but I like the ideas behind it. Changing the battlefield to someone's dream is a really creative way of approaching this. Ultimately, I feel that it's a little bit too oppressive (only you being able to attack or block, and so on), but the idea is really cool!

This is a blue card that wants in its heart to be a red card. The concept is strong here, and the art is great (thanks @Biblio2 ), but I think it might just be a little too strong. +5/+1 and first strike is pretty terrifying on an early swinger, after all, and the boardwipe option is probably worthy of a card on its own. A really cool concept, though, and I really like the 'pay it or lose it' version of the Illusion ability.

Pure and simple. GREAT art choice, and it works well in the Theros set (since there were so many targeted abilities flying around for Heroic and so on). I might have costed it at U, since it's competing with Crystallize, but a very solid card nevertheless.

Another elegant option. Cheaper than Control Magic but comes with the Illusion downside. It's not your creature, so it's not you that suffers downside here, though. Destroying the aura rather than the creature seems more palatable to me. Again, great art choice, and a solid card.

I love the concept of an Illusion-based planeswalker, but that -2 though. It turns so many of your creatures into hyper-efficient beatsticks with no clear answers; I'd prefer that as the ultimate and a different version of the ult on the second ability.

Free spells tend to be super volatile, but this seems good. It's easy to game (Conduit of Ruin, Worldly/Sylvan Tutor), but the Illusion ability really helps balance it out. You could still grab Emrakul with it, but the operative word there is Emrakul, not Hallucinate. A cost bump to 1UR might be nice (scry 3 is pretty good on its own), but a very solid card.

Our first legendary creature! Giving out the Illusion ability is interesting, but it might be better on an activated ability; at 2/2 she's not going to be blocking anything worth blowing a spell on more than once. Hexproof is a nice ironic twist, though maybe Absorb would work better (Absorb 1 for each Illusion on the battlefield?). Helps to keep her alive, anyway. Great work!

The Spellskite ability is a great complement to the Illlusion ability, and the cantrip is a nice kickback. Great art choice, too, and a very cool card.
And our winner is...
Sonicfan5150!
Yay!
As always, there are no prizes; ("this is the internet, where everything's made up and the points don't matter"). Fantastic entries from everybody; this was the hardest contest to judge yet! Happy smithing everybody, and have a great day!
Thanks to @Beeswax for a cool challenge!!
