"Choose one -" Spells!

So.

Some time ago I got really imersed into cards with a ton of options - like Azorius Charm, Abzan Charm, Bant Charm, etc - And I made an artifact to work exactly with these kind of cards.

This contest here's all about making cards to work well with this Prosperity Talisman - while not being utterly unbalanced with each of its choices individually. The rules are as follows!

1. Your card, no matter the type, must have "Choose one -" and at least 3 options.
2. Keeping things at a low CMC (max 3).
3. Rares. Aurum potestas est.
4. Maximum 3 entries per cardsmith.

To spur your imaginations a bit, here's an example.

Contest ends in July 1th. Happy smithing :D

I think these are relatively balanced, the CMC might need to be adjusted, but what the heck. (I think a one drop arbitrate would be way to OP, even if you take a four life hit for it)
  • They're called modal spells, so the artifact can just say "While choosing modes for a spell, you may choose every mode."
  • Here's one:

I should have put this as a rule instead. My bad D:

@Fantastic_Fantasy_Cards Bleeding List needs a bit of rewording. Otherwise, fits black quite well!

Rule Morphing's effect should actually be "{u}, Sacrifice Rule Morphing: Choose one -", to point that paying {u} and sacrificing are the conditions to Choose One. Its second mode seems pretty bad for Blue (which has a ton of instants/flash) and the third should be "Damage isn't removed from permanents during the cleanup step.", which also doesn't sound very blue, but then again, it's a rule-bender card. Nice.

@MikeKnight Against All Odds' second mode sounds like Hexproof, but not quite. Interesting! It's in all a great card, except its third mode. 3 CMC: Draw seven cards is overpowered, and doesn't seem fitting to the card's flavor or color.

Arbitrate is indeed a bit too strong at 1 CMC and lose 4 life. I'd suggest making it {p/w}{p/b}{w}{b} and change its first mode to "Choose blockers for target player", as Orzhov usually doesn't worry about the life loss much. The punctuation's also a bit not there.

Final Stroke's unbalanced. Especially its first mode. {b}{b}{b} for 10/10 worth of stats divided between five different creature tokens with haste that aren't exiled at the end of turn. Would like to play against that on turn 3? The third mode is pretty black-grim style, which I'm digging, but the second one also doesn't seem very balanced as a 3 CMC huge pump that doesn't ware off.

@Biblio2 You're right. But still, some other modal spells, with Choose 2 for example, would defeat the purpose of the artifact's niche nature and flavor. I'll probably remake Prosperity Talisman accordingly soon, as I had no idea they had their own nomenclatures, but I'll keep the "Choose one -". Even so, thanks a bunch!

@Faiths_Guide Loved the art. I'm not sure since I have no idea which expansion that is, but is it a rare? Because I think it's good enough to be one, at instant speed (Being rare is actually a condition in this contest thingy.)

@LOLINC Nice concept! Although the requirements include maximum Converted Mana Cost 3 and yours is actually 4. It's an Uncommon too. Also, if its effects are both "Enter the battlefield" ones, why make it an Enchantment?

@Animist I really liked it! The specific mana requirement does wonders to balance out its effects (white, black and red). Imagine all three modes activate at the same time o_o'
  • Oooh, rare.
  • Soooo close! I literally just made this card: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/divine-edict?list=user
unfortunately it's a choose two and four mana but I'll make another for this contest :)
  • @Maxandemmy - We like to go to the actual card page, as opposed to the picture of the card, it lets us leave favorites and comments!

Definitely play with a life deck or it will probably kill you...
  • Taking myself as an example, as both Prosperity Talisman and Phylogenetic Tree have been reworked while this contest is ongoing, you may rework and edit your entries at your pleasure until the specified date. Just make sure to Inbox or bump to point out your entry's been modified.

    For the winners~

@Animist with Vast Charm on first place, congrats! It's very interesting card, with a difficult mana cost for its effects. Quite massacrating with the effects together, but that's comboing - and the sole reason for this contest. Great work :D

@RohanDragoon with Never Fail, Always Prevail on second. The complexity and usefulness of the last mode really outweighted the first's, making it kinda awkward. Otherwise, the life losing rush is pretty neat - might even put it in Orzhov, even with its all-black mana cost.

@Fantastic_Fantasy_Cards with Rule Morphing on third place. Rewording aside, the idea of changing a game's rules mid-game is cool. Although I just realized it also doesn't specify "until ...", which makes it a tad confusing.

Please message me if any of you three'd like me to See & Favorite a card from each of you as your prizes! I might not be that experienced with regular card text, but I really like new mechanics.
  • I guess, since I never remembered to come back and make a legal entry, I shouldn't be disappointed that I lost HAHAH

    Congrats @Winners! Great job @Yururu!
  • Congrats to ALL the winners!! Thanks to @Yururu for the cool challenge!
