Artifact destruction contest

edited October 2016 in Contests and Challenges
Since I love to participate in contests and am active here for a while, I feel, it is time for my own contest to start.

Most people seem to be quite fond of the new Kaladesh set. I for my part didn't become friends with the vehicles yet. To be true, I can't stand them at all. So I'll use my negative feelings as a starting point for this contest. Here's what you have to do:

Create a circle of cards, that destroys artifacts. I'd like to see a card in every color, but they also may be multicolored. So entering five cards would be great, but making less won't be a reason to be disqualified. They may have any rarity, type and converted mana cost. I prefer realistic cards and the better functionality and flavor, the greater the chance to win.

These are the prices, I offer:

1st place: 5 favorites of your choice or 2 favorites of your choice and a follow.
2nd place: 4 favorites of your chice or 1 favorite of your choice and a follow.
3rd place: 3 favorites of your choice or a follow.

I'll also try to give feedback on your entries, but don't be sad, if my time and knowledge doesn't allow me to do that in great length. Furthermore, I'll favorite all entries.

Please post your entries until friday 18.11.2016. I'll take my time the following weekend to pick the winners and post the results until monday 21.11.2016 (hopefully) I hope you enjoy the contest and good luck to all of you.

@KimJongMartin I really enjoy this card, it's and the fitting art that comes with it. Nice balancing of the upsides in comparison to the downsides like destroying all artifacts wich comes in handy, if you don't play with artifacts, like I would do, you just annoy your opponents, watching all their stuff go down the drain and becoming stronger with every artifact, you destroy.
Giving your opponents an ooze creature for every destroyed artifact seems legit. That doesn't leave him defenseless and you can take care of them later on. Might be a really nice card in a green/white or green/black deck, that allows you, to do so.

@FatCat23476 Strong flavor in that combination of art, color, creature type and flavor text. I also love the rubble tokens, that stay as remains of the artifacts, being abled to destroy creatures. What shall I say? really sweet card!
  • This is something I made a while ago. We didn't have the Kaladesh icon yet.

  • @Lujikul Very nice. That's the stuff, I was thinking of. Vehicle and creature removal in one card at instant speed is really great and makes this card very powerful. The art goes very well with it and looks good with the golden frame. It's such a strong card, it could even be a little more expensive without being overcosted.
  • @bieux A really creative card with good mechanic. I like the idea of an artifact scarecrow becoming stronger by being reinforced with the scrap you get from destroying other artifacts. That process is greatly illustrated by the art, you found. I'd think of changing the cost into {g}{b}, {t} wich seems to be more fitting thinking of the color pie.
  • @MaverickGV Wow, great work. I enjoy finding a full circle of cards, you seem to have put much thought into. I like the range of different mechanics and types, you used and the way you made them work with the different color identities.

Light of cleansing appeals to me the most as far as I can see at first glance. I like the way it protects you from artifacts and can be used as a boardsweeper. Nice flexibility and quite powerful, but well balanced in my oppinion.

I like the way, Unable Aether Chamber works with energy counters, giving this card the full Kaladesh feeling. Again, good flexibility, giving you the option to farm energy counters or to destroy an artifact.

Acidic Cloud comes with a great flavor. Being abled to choose the amount of mana, you wanna pay, is great and allows you to deal just the right amount of damage, you need. Very powerful again, but the cmc justifies that.

Melting Stream is just the right stuff for a fast forward burn deck. I can imagine how much fun it has to be to play it and that's what makes me like it. Maybe, this one could be a little undercosted.

What I like about Corrosive Intruder is the way, you balanced it by using a downside (which isn't one, when playing no artifacts, and I wouldn't :D) Good card with well chosen abilites for a reasonable cmc.

@zizick123 I like the way, this card does different stuff, depending on what it destroys. It's also good, it's an instant and does great damage, when destroying a vehicle with its crew. Good job!
  • My submission:

Destroying already-present artefacts is all well and good, but how about some future-proofing? Also deals with those pesky indestructible artefacts.
  • @ShadowKnight1224 Well, that's what I call efficient! What else can I say? Very powerful, but since cmc is 6, it's an end game thing, so that's allright. I also like the flavor text. Very nice :)
  • Thank you! I have a soft spot for freedom fighters. :P
  • I made six of these fellas (including one with colorless mana):

I'm aware that most of them are weird, so any suggestions would be great. Thanks :)
  • @Kinojitsu_Asahi

Divine illumination is cool, 'cause you may choose to do different things and doing both comes with a downside, that means, more good stuff for your enemy. The only thing, that seems to be a little unfitting is the fact, that scrying is a very blue thing. On the other hand, allowing your opponent to scry seems to be a fair price for what the card does.

Nice, you used Multikicker, designing Aether Vortex. I havve the feeling, this mechanic is not seen very often here. The way, this card works, is very blue, regarding the ability to give artivacts back to your opponents hand. I like cards, you can pay a different amount of mana for to get more or less effort.

I like the flavor of Fate of the Armed. I also like the creative way you handled the problem, black has with destroying artifacts. That doesn't really belong to black color identity, but this way, it is very fitting in my oppinion.

Erase the Empire is very powerful, but compared to other boardsweepers, it's totally ok for the mana cost, you chose. Boardsweepers are always a good thing and having the chance to destroy a land with them is nice as well. Regarding the cost, you might be abled to play this card too late to really annoy your opponent with destroying a land.

Forgotten in history is great. I think, I like this one the best of all your entries. It's very green and can be cast very soon. In that stage of game, giving your opponent 2 mana is a fair price for stopping his plans that soon.

I like Delusional Gospel because it doesn't only destroy an artifact, but also removes all stuff, it could do, from the stack. That's an ability, wich can really save your ass. Mana cost is quite low again, but the price to pay is the card draw, you give your enemy.

All in all, very creative and thoughtfully designed cards. I really appreciate the dedication you put in them.
  • @Mila thanks for the comments! I agree that the scrying one seems to be slightly off color. I originally thought of giving my opponents extra life as an extra cost.
  • @LyndonF I like this set. Choosing to make two colored cards gives you the chance to give them several options, monocolored cards wouldn't have.

With Aether Bomb we have a card, that uses energy counters again. As I said before, I like that for the original Kladesh flavor. The good thing about this card is its flexibility, I have talked about before, too. Collecting energy counters works well with cards, using these counters. The cost, you have to pay to destruct an artifact seems legit, too.

Matadory inspecton is nice as well. Tapping half of all artifacts you control, is a great price to pay, especially, if you only control vehicles and artifact creatures. It loses a bit of power, when used against a deck, that relies on thopter tokens, but at least the standard meta doesn't seem to be too good at creating thopter tokens.

Revert to nature is a very nice card. I love green white and this card cought the spirit of these colors quite well. Nice work!

Blazing deer is great, because of being abled to destroy two artifacts and bringing a body onto the battlefield. Sacrificing a land or artifact is fair since a green/red deck with a ramp element should bring you enough land to be abled to give one of them up for destroying an artifact. If only you could blink cards in a green/red deck...

Motor accident is a really useful instant. Good abilites for a good price. There's nothing more, I could say right now.

I also like the fact, that we find five different card types here. There's something for every deck and many different situations and for the most strategies, different decks use. Thanks for your entries :)

@KimJongMartin Did you delete your card? What a pitty, I was just about to favorite and like it :( I liked the idea of a two sided card, you can play on your side of the battlefield or on your opponents one. Sorry for not taking care of it earlier, but I had to work yesterday and today is my free day. That would have given me time to take a look at your idea that's as close as I want it to be, since I try to give a feedback that's a little more than 'nice card, thanks for entering'.
  • @Mila

    I deleted it?

Whoops! Didn't mean to do that! XD

  • @unicornsareevil13579 Whar a nice idea. I like the consistency of that set. Nice artwork for each card and a land! I think, I don't need to give feedback on each of these cards seperately, since they are that similar. Producing mana and tapping creatures is typically green and blue, so the green and blue guy appear to be the most 'natural' ones to me.
I also like the land for its ability to copy artifacts. That doesn't really destroy them, but is very helpful when it's time to beat them up in combat. Thanks for entering!
  • @Mila. Each Orbertron is designed to tap a vehicle if it becomes a creature the turn it enters.

The land allows you to copy the artifact instead if you have enogh orbertrons
  • Here's there commander
