Help me with Christmas (Commanders)

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums, so please let me know if I shouldn't be posting this or if I'm doing anything wrong.
I al building a custom Commander Set (5 decks) for my playgroup as a christmas gift.
So far, I have designed the 5 commanders and would like your thoughts and opinions on them. Especially if you guys think they are reasonable (not broken) and balanced.
Here they are:

http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/athesa-fortress-leader
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/winthar-sturm-illusionist
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/nephasta-necrospheratu-1
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/vulk-the-worlds-anger
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/donthas-heavy-drummer

I will update you guys as I keep designing the set.

Thanks!

    Athesa:
Blocking creatures you control get +0/+2. (Otherwise you'd have to say, "As long as you are a defending player, creatures you control get +0/+2.")

At the beginning of each opponent's end step, if you didn't lose life this turn, create a 1/1 white Human Soldier creature token.

    *Don't forget periods.

Balance - She's alright, perhaps a little weak. Could be very strong if built around appropriately. As she stands I'd probably make her a rare instead of a mythic.
  • Thank you! That's great... I am more concerned about her power in comparison with the other commanders, so it's ok if she's not crazy, as long as none of the others are

    Winthar Sturm (Strum?):
When you cast Winthar Strum (sturm?) , draw a card.

{w}{u}{b}: Exile target creature. At the beginning of your next end step, you may return it to the battlefield under its owner's control. If you don't, its controller creates a 0/1 blue Illusion creature token with flying. (Don't need apostrophes in "its".)

    *Don't forget periods.

Flavor is really sweet on this guy. He feels a little stronger than Athesa, but still not crazy.

    Nephasta:
    Flying, deathtouch

Whenever a Zombie you control deals combat damage to a player, draw a card.

Whenever a Vampire you control deals combat damage to a player, you gain that much life.

(For clarity's sake I'd split those statics.)

    *Don't forget periods.

This seems (perhaps) on par with Winthar.

  • Wow! Thank you! This is really great feedback.
I never noticed we had periods at the end of each ablity. lol
Yeah, I thin Winthar id definetely the best one flavor-wise. If I could find some sweet "magician's white dove" art to add as the token he makes, it would be perfect!
I will edit Athesa to make her a bis stronger... Maybe she can create two tokens instead of one...
  • Vulk:
    Trample, haste

At the beginning of combat on your turn,...
(Here's where you have a choice. The way it is currently worded, you have to pick all or none, they become red [not capitalized] Elementals that aren't still lands and they never cease to be those creatures.)

    Two options:
At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may have any number of lands you control become 2/1 red Elemental creatures with haste. (Kinda weird.)
    -or-
At the beginning of combat on your turn, each land you control becomes a 2/1 red Elemental creature token with haste until end of turn. They're still lands. (More normal.)

    *Don't forget periods.

This one is the most confused thus far (IMO). It'll likely require the biggest changes.

Hey, that's great advice! I was going for the second one. My idea for this deck is to have things like Omnath, Titania and Gitrog all getting value from lands. Maybe Bulk is not the best guy to lead this though... Maybe a more ramp-y commander could be better... But then I would have to put it in the Green Shard in the place of Donthas
  • What do you think about:

    Trample, haste

Whenever you sacrifice a land, you may play an additional land this turn.

Sacrifice a Mountain, deal 2 damage to target player.

Sacrifice a Forest, add {g}{g} to your mana pool.

Sacrifice a Swamp, target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn.
  • I think it could become broken too easily...
  • You're right... I took out the "additional land part".
Here's what I got so far:

Sacrifice a Mountain, deal 2 damage to target player.

Sacrifice a Swamp, target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn.

Sacrifice a Forest, add {g}{g} to your mana pool.

{b}{r}{g}: Search your library for a basic land card and put it onto the battefield tapped, then shuffle your library.

Seems fine, though I might add "and/or graveyard" and it would be written thus:

Sacrifice a Mountain: Vulk deals 2 damage to target player.

Sacrifice a Swamp: Target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn.

Sacrifice a Forest: Add {g}{g} to your mana pool.

{b}{r}{g}: Search your library and/or graveyard for a basic land card and put it onto the battlefield tapped. If you searched your library this way, shuffle it. Activate this ability only once each turn.
  • That's a cool idea! Thanks!
  • I don't really play too to much commander, but I would reccomend adding Gisa and Geralf from eldritch moon to the Nephasta, necrospheratu deck.

I like the old movie reference By the way. But if you are indeed referencing nosferatu, Nephasta necrospheratu's name should be spelled Nephasta, Necrosferatu

Those are all great suggestions! I will be editing the cards tomorrow and incorporate all of it. Any of you guys have an opinion about Donthas?

    Donthas, Heavy Drummer
    WRGG
4/5 Legendary Creature - Troll Warrior
    Vigilance, haste

Attacking creatures you control get +2/0.

Creatures you control with power 6 or greater have trample.

Hey all! I have refined the cards a bit and added a new cycle of legendary lands to go with them. Check out the set here:

I know there are still problems here and would love some more feedback.

    Cheers.
  • @fepiera the link you gave brings me to a 404 error...
  • @KrampisZman - The link works now!
