This ones a very unusual vehicle but i like it. High-Flying means it can only block creatures with flying. If it breaks any Vehicle rules tell me. Again I'm not good at balancing so I'm open to suggestions.
@Wackosaru I'm not an ogre, despite what some people might think. Haha. I'll forgive you... this time! Mwaha (I like the idea behind it, I won't disqualify it as you didn't realise.)
1st @Oduda (Vahd, Reconnaissance Module) I determined that this entry deserved 1st place because it just oozes flavour. When I assessed the entries I didn’t solely look at whether your cards would be good technically for a set, but would they be plausible in the Kaladesh story. With the Kaladesh story line there is a lot of counsel surveillance, especially when trying to locate and track the illegal distribution of Aether. In addition, this is a well-balanced card, instead of Smuggler’s Copter (When this vehicle attacks, draw and then discard) you need to actually deal combat damage for its ability to trigger. The mana cost may be a little high for a vehicle but I enjoyed it.
2nd @Faiths_Guide (Northsky Marauder) @Faiths_Guide, know that this was a hard decision. Both of your entries were worthy of being placed here. I had to consider which of the two, encapsulated both lore and flavour. Your Northsky Marauder was the choice flavour wise, whilst Chronodial had a certain unique quality to it, mechanically, as well as the art being very reminiscent of the steampunk style. Northsky’s concept of piracy in Kaladesh fits very well with the Aetherborn Rogues and Renegades that inhabit the cities of Kaladesh. I loved the name, everything about it fit with the idea behind it, as well as your hand disruption mechanic. It was well balanced, congratz!
3rd @DragonFaceEater (Airship Gunboat) @DragonFaceEater you’re probably surprised that you are on here? Haha. I wouldn’t blame you. Though, despite our seemingly tense exchange, I am evaluating on your abilities as a Cardsmith. I liked the card; I wondered why it was not called Gunboat Airship, instead, because usually adjectives come before the noun when describing something? But that’s just scrutiny. I enjoyed the artwork had a very Asian steam punk feel to it with the Chinese silk sails. I thought that your gun counter mechanic could be tuned up a little, just by developing the idea a little. (Maybe the gun counters can focus damage = to its power to target creature.) Otherwise well done! =]
Honourable mentions: (I will like your entries)
@Wakosaru (Scrap Walker) I have a fondness for Howl’s Moving Castle I cannot lie, however, whilst your improvements to balance would have put you on par with third place, know that in the Kaladesh story line only allows the best inventions to use Aether, as it is a valuable and restricted commodity. The idea of a scrap walker would go against the flavour slightly. Otherwise, I did enjoy the mechanic of sacrificing artefacts to put counters on it. Whilst you did mention that you thought that two +1/+1 counter(s) seemed a little overpowered, know that when it comes to playing a format like standard your card is very vulnerable to removal, it has no Hexproof, meaning that any kill spell is going to affect it, as well as artefact removal. Token generation may allow for you to sacrifice for counters but you need to first get them onto the battlefield before someone uses Kozilek’s Return or another board wipe spell like Fumigate. Establishing a board state in Standard is difficult. Sacrificing a board state for counters can sometimes put you in a difficult position, especially when the card has no evasion or spell protection.
@FatCat23476 (Scavenging Skiff) I enjoyed name as well as the idea behind it. (Flavour; recycling is something I can imagine being the case for the people of Kaladesh, not wasting resources.) I thought that its mana/crew cost might have been a little expensive for its base power and toughness. Walls are cheaper. =P With its mechanic, even though it has evasion having to crew for 4 makes it difficult for you to attack with it, let alone deal damage to an opponent.
Thank you for your entries guys, I liked aspects of all of them, especially those I did not mention. Please do not lose heart if you didn’t win this time.
@Mnemosyne Awesome! Yeah, I really didn't like the way the name sounded either, but it seemed like a waste to go and remake the whole card just to change the name, so I left it as it was. Speaking of that tense exchange, I honestly didn't know that you spelled it that way, I didn't mean to offend you or anything!
