AWESOME SET! OB RETURNS!
Hey Guys! Now, here's a question who loved the original Innistrad flip mechanic? Ok, so if you did stick around. I have an idea. We got us a plane, and I have no idea how to call that plane yet. Here's he story:
Ob Nixilis is said to have fled Zendikar after the Gatewatch defeated the Eldrazi Titans (Now this is actually true to the actual mtg lore.) Where he has fled, or how he did it is unknown, but we can safely say that we probably won't be seeing him in Aether revolt. Now, a lot of time passed between the Story-arcs of Kaladesh and the defeat of Emrakul on Innistrad, where the planeswalkers kind of just sat around and watched over the Universe. So, here's what happened in the meantime.
Our dear Ob hasn't really planswalked for several thousands of years, and therefore accidentally planewalked to a random plane. That plane (still unnamed) was extremely peculiar, as its mana-flow was a strange one. In essence, the plane was equally divided into five parts according to each mana color, unlike other planes in which mana was omnipresent with every color, for example, the Swamplands of Thon were completely devoid of anything but black mana. He also saw that in the spots were mana seemed strongest, it was extremely easily manipulated, and that there was a constant war between the borders of all the regions. For example, tides of black mana always wanted to influence the red Mountains of Cyxia, and White mana always crept up on the Green, and so on and so forth. Now Ob, being the conqueror he was, decided it was time for some change. With the help of Cerma the Swamp Hag of the Marshes, he built a contraption which brought eternal night to (Unknown Plane) enabling him to manipulate the flow of black mana, and suddenly the swamp's reach expanded. With that, he began his conquest, set on using the planet as his feeding grounds once all the other realms have been turned to black. The Green planeswalker Arvia attempted to warn the lands of Gorund that the swamp was enroaching, however the waning cycles of day and night drove her to madness, and she did not reach the Plains in time. Now, take note that all the realms are located next to each other in proportion to the color wheel, IE, black is between blue and red, red is between black and green, white is between green and blue, and so on and so forth. So the first set will be the plane itself, and will showcase the differing loyalties of each color, as when night comes, they might be something much more dangerous than they seemed before. The second set, Nightfall will focus on the conquest of Ob Nixilis, and the banding of the allience between The remainder of Blue, the remainder of green, and white, as well as the black-turned cards of red and blue. Now, if possible, I will ask beeswax to use his Manashift mechanic, and Crazy Kobold to use his Night/Day cycle mechanic, for they will really add flavor to this set. However, if they say no, then I'll just have to do. Now, the third set will be Daybreak, where guess who comes to save the day? Ajani! This explains the time of what he did between Elspeth's death, being hunted by Garruk, and making a guest appearance in Kaladesh, and why he came to Kaladesh so late in the story. So yes, Ajani saves the day, and returns day to it's original status, clearing the land of the black mana, and driving Ob Nixilis out of the plane, but having to kill Arvia in the process, and well...its complicated. This is just the outline, but I really wanted to see if people were interested. Btw, before people start yelling about this, I DID completely steal the Daybreak and Nightfall names for Kobold, and all the originality goes to him from his Noctournia set, however Kobold of you read this and want it removed than just say so and it will be done. Also thank you so much for the Inspiration.
Now, as i am typing I also realized that due to the new set configuration, I will only be including two sets in this block so scratch the introduction to the plane.
The first set is likely to feature a lot of Landwalk abilities, black will have a lot of swamp/black-mana related abilities, Day/Night mechanic (again if Kobold allows it), Manashift (If Besswax allows it), and yes, Dark ritual will be back. It will also feature Arvia, with both her Corrupted and Uncorrupted Version a new white planeswalker known as Miras who leads the Armies of Gorund in opposition. Ajani will come into play in the second block, as a Naya-colored planeswalker, and Ob will return with his usual black colors. The set will feature A LOT of landwalk so get your Urborg out and start thinking. I will be clarifying everything ASAP, but if you have any questions, then please don't hesitate to ask. Also tell about this to Beeswax and Kobold if possible and ask if they if they agree. So spread the word! I will be making an account for the set, and if possible, will try to collab with other cardsmiths. Please post your ideas for cards, lore or mechanics below, before this account is made, as I would love your help as a community. Now thank you for reading all this crap that just came out of my head and happy smithing!
