Multiplayer Political Set Challenge
Ok, now most of you know me as the following three things: Therussian58, Mother Russia, and "That guy who started a totally awesome Lovecraftian set and never finished. However many of you may not know that I pretty crazy when it comes to unique ideas, and for reference this project WILL BE FINISHED (with your help of coarse).
Right, now here is the premise:
Take the Archenemy aspect of schemes, The conspiracies and draft mechanics from conspiracy, the monarch mechanic from Conspiracy Take the Crown, commanders, lieutenants, and partner commanders from the EDH format, and the constant switching the planes from Planechase.
Bottom line, here's how its gonna go down: You draft your commander, if needed partner, and lieutenants. You then draft your whole deck, and draft your whole scheme deck. Each player has a scheme deck. However, this format will be played kind of like a campaign, where on each plane you can add more cards to your deck, otherwise found only on that plane. Now, I know what you are thinking: "This dude just threw all the known formats together and now wants to play a campaign?
Well...yeah
That's exactly what I had in mind. Now, the best part about this project is the fact that the lore of WHERE people are fighting, WHY people are fighting and WHO is fighting is completely up to you. In collaboration with all the other cardsmiths I hope to create this unique format/set focused purely on multiplayer and political prowess. Abilities and Mechanics such as @Beeswax's @KimJongMartin 's Two-faced, Emissary and others are a perfect example of what you should experience in the set. Backstabbing, bribery, exchange of control, power-playing, all of it tightly compacted into a draft format.
Also, another idea floating in my head was that each seassion would be fought on one part of a world; lets say a city. Now, you can add to your deck from booster packs that can only be found in that city, and the city will have an overall effect on the game, as a plane should have in Planechase. So lets say the city gives all creatures +0/+1 and says that each player may choose negate this effect at the beginning of their turn to draw and extra card during their draw step. Now, this bonus (or negative) will stay int he game for the whole session, however, the actual planes in the plane deck are the city's districts, and their effects change and trigger just like in a normal Planechase game.
So now that you have the background you probably are wondering whats the contest for right now?
Challenge: Create Commanders that you think will suit this kind of setting, they can be anything! Power-hungry merchants, Fairy Queens, Political Advisors, Game of Thrones-inspired characters etc. But, here's the twist. In their flavor text, name or title, they will have to reference an aspect of the world. For example: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/tulian-emissary?list=set&set=14909
We don't know what Tulia is, or what kind of people live there, yet its already been introduced into this world, now its your time to create the rest.
So to clarify:
Make a commander of any colors without partner that either references or is a lore-aspect in the setting, still however try to keep the setting out of sci-fi and in the MTG spectrum.
The card must still be realistic and balanced
No joke cards
3 entries per person
Prize: The top 10 commanders will be put into the set and each given two favorites
Bonus Points: Elaborate on what the lore you reference is: right a small explanation or story or something along those lines.
Have fun, and please ask me anything if you are unsure about the challenge or the set overall.
Next Challenge we will be creating Lieutenants for the commanders and elaborating on the setting, so saty tuned and happy smithing!

P.S I'll check the account out, thanks!
I figure he'd be in the "political advisor" category, as the representative of the elves within the city, as an influential person in the world of potential racism against elves.
That card is like saying this:
All is Dust is a racist card because it discriminates against cards of color!
Just so you know, Two-Faced is by @KimJongMartin and Emissary is by @Tomigon (I think).
After shamelessly claiming for himself complete and total control over the soft-spoken tradesman people of Yirivar, Burren thought it only right that he should formally exact some form of tax upon these wealthy merchants. "They can afford it, of course. If, however, they deem trifles of value enough, they will be swiftly and publicly punished."
The edifice in which he now sits was once known as "Commerce Hall"; the throne on which he now sits was previously part of an extensive collection from an ancient era; the people over which he now sits are free men.
Burren, the villainous infidel who'd fallen out of favor with his distant knightly relatives and taken to a more barbarian lifestyle, took what he wished. There was little opposition here, exactly what he wanted.
One thing that did anger Burren was the Yirivar alliance with many bird species; cranes in particular were more than capable of delivering messages and smuggling smaller merchandise between the merchants of Yirivar. Burren reasoned that all that was necessary to bring this evasive method of communication to a halt was increased "taxation" and more severe discipline for the disobedient.
Yes, the second card wasn't an entry, merely a related card I felt you'd be interested in.
I've updated the card (and the above links and images) to use the "Cardsmith" set symbol.
@Therussian58
I'd prefer to simply retract my entry. It's a previous contest winning card and I don't wish to alter it too much.
I'll stop clogging your thread :P

Next, @Gelectrode, of coarse there are giant and how could I, an active red player not include gobbos into the set?! Great card btw, and I would love to see 6 or so players fighting over the control of a 4/5 giant. However, as stated in my previous post, this commander challenge must have a mythic commander, and therefore this will unquestionably end up being a card in the set, but not a MAIN commander. Keep in mind, there are several commander draft steps as explained above int he description:
There will be commander mythic, and then two or more partnered commanders, as well as lieutenants and radicals, so if you gave this partner this could surely work as a secondary commander, yet otherwise I think this will just end up being a really good and cool card in the set: again, your choice!

http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/ollena-mistress-of-thornes?list=user
So the backstory be pretty simple: She controls the Annel people of the province of Highgarden (yes game of thrones reference), and is basically based off the game of thrones Tyrells. Since she controls most of the food export in the land, she can freely tax people during war. She also is known for her-cold blooded determination, and a tactic of letting her enemies starve to death. Yet the nobility of Highgarden adore her, and she is served by the three nights: The Black Rose, the White Rose, and the Red Rose (to be made possibly in further challenges). Ollena's people have been known to hate her however, for letting them starve throughout the war, and you can expect many more rebels and knights of the Thorn in later updates, but so far, make up the rest of her lore!
