  • Judging is coming soon...
  • The real reason I don't like entering contests like these is that I don't like having cardnames predetermined for me...

    However:

@Faiths_Guide I often agree, though in this case the limitation is nice.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think a characteristic of cards with 'Aristocrat' in the name is the ability to sacrifice creatures. The only exception is Cephalid Aristocrat but that's from Torment and I think we can safely ignore that.

It might not be an issue for you but I think (to answer @Tomble123 's question) WotC's definition of an aristocrat, at least now, seems to be sacrificing creatures, so perhaps it's a little weird that that's not a criterion in an aristocrat challenge? Of course, that does pretty much limit aristocrats to black but, again, that seems to be the WotC trend.

  • Judging

1st place is Grixis Aristocrat by @Corwinnn.
I don't have much to say about this one, other than I really like it. The synergy with this and the "Unearth" mechanic is really cool - how you can pay the cost, get it back for a turn and then, rather than exile it, return it your hand. The artwork, flavor text and overall feel of the card are just so awesome it was impossible not to award this card first place. I still can't get over the way the skeleton is looking to the right, as though he's just removed his hood and is revealing his twisted, ghastly face to you. Nice job!

2nd place is Temur Aristocrat by @pewnd.
This was so close to being first place. The only thing I was a bit confused about was the saccing creature bit - but other than that I love everything about the card. It embodies the big creature, the clan and the shaman-y feel of the Khan so well. The gigantic beast behind the shaman, leaning in looks so cool - you can really feel yourself getting carried away to the snowy forests where this ritual is taking place. A Vorthos win!

3rd place is Wojek Aristocrat by @DomriKade.
WooHoo! The Boros beatdown is on. I'm a bit of a Boros fanatic, so perhaps I'm biased, but you can't deny that this is a really well designed card. All the winners seem to have really nice artwork! It seems very Boros, and it was also an interesting choice calling it "Wojek Aristocrat" rather than simply "Boros Aristocrat" - it certainly paid off as it holds this masterpiece together very well. I'm certainly going to be using some of this artist's pieces in the future!

    Honorable Mentions:

Sultai Aristocrat by @MrRansom A very well-designed, interesting card, as well as a cool take on the Sultai Khan.
Izzet Aristocrat by @Faiths_Guide "Izzet" a well designed, cool card? In this case, certainly!
  • Look out for an extra-special trophy added to this set soon: http://mtgcardsmith.com/user/KJMartin/sets/17109
  • WooHoo!!! Thanks to @KJMartin for the challenge and congrats to all the other winners and mentionables!!
