Mechanic Challenge (With a Twist) ENDING 21st!!!

edited December 2016 in Contests and Challenges
So, you've all probably read and entered multiple contests where the challenge is to create a mechanic, but this one will be more restricted.

All entries MUST be submitted by the 21st to be judged. The results will come out 1 or 2 days later.

Rules:
-Three entries per person (max)
-The new Mechanic MUST have something to do with when the spell or land leaves the battlefield, destroyed, dies etc.
-Only one mechanic allowed per three entries
-At least one card should have reminder text of the ability.

Prizes:
-I will come up with them based on how many people enter. (The prizes will be N favourites and I will have a winner and runner up only.)

  • Homage (Whenever this permanent is destroyed by a spell or ability you don't control, create a token that's a copy of it, except its an enchantment and loses all other types and abilities. It has "Whenever you cast a spell with the same name as this permanent, draw a card.")

    Pretty wordy...

  • sorry, @Nanosaurus but that ability doesn't follow the rules :/
  • Oh, dang. I thought it said enter as well as leave. I'll make new cards for it.

    Few things:

    1.
    http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=189648

    2.
Tragedy N (When put into the graveyard from anywhere, put N +1/+1 counters on each creature that shares a type with it on the battlefield, they must attack this turn if able.)
    -or-
Tragedy N (When this creature dies, put N +1/+1 counters on each creature that shares a type with it, they must attack this turn if able.)
    -or-
Tragedy N (When this creature dies, put N +1/+1 counters on each other creature you control that shares a type with it, they must attack this turn if able.)
If you don't want opponents creatures to get bigger and swing in. Seems like they wouldn't feel that tragically about one of your dudes dying anyway...

    3.
Inspired — Whenever CARDNAME becomes untapped, create a 1/1 blue Dragon creature token with flying.

    Hope this is helpful!
  • @faiths_guide thanks! making it only work for creatures you control makes sense. i should've thought of that. I'll fix the cards now.
  • @Nanosaurus
    Np! ;)
    Glad to be of help!

I'm really proud of this card, especially the flavor text because
    I made it myself.
The card is pretty good, but may be too op.
The flavor text is an rhyme that depicts the death of a little boy, which the walls protect them
from elementals. But one day he was cleaning the wall and fell off. A few minutes later, a few
villagers tried to find him. But he was no where to be found because he was killed that quickly.
  • @jchen5012 I think the card should be a 2/1, but nonetheless, the ability is awesome!
@Nanosaurus is the tragedy ability supposed to only put +1/+1 counters on creatures that share a CREATURE type with it? Otherwise, it just puts a counter on each creature you control. The ability doesn't make sense though, (Why would they get buffed from their friend dying? Seems more like a celebration than a tragedy... :/)

    Thank you!
EDIT: I made him a 2/1 but made him a little easier to cost.
Also, what about the rewards? Are they set in stone. When's the contest going to end?
  • @jazipa tragedy buffing allies was supposed to be the creatures getting enraged at their death and seeking revenge. Tragedy isn't the best name for it, but i couldn't come up with another that works. And yes, it puts counters on creatures that share a subtype with it. So i might have to change that to 'subtype' in the wording.
  • @Nanosaurus What is should say is "When [creature name] dies, put N +1/+1 counters on each creature you control that shares a creature type with it (not subtype)"
  • @mtgwizard9003 the part of that mechanic where it says plus 2 and minus one isn't necessary. The ability is simple but powerful and I feel making it complicated is not a good idea.
  • MESSAGE TO ALL:
This contest will close after I reveal the winners, however, all entries Must be submitted by the 21st to be entered.
  • @jchen5012 The rewards/prizes are not determined yet, but they will be numbers of favourites (no trophies or anything, I don't like them)
  • @jazipa, ok can I edit it
  • @mtgwizard9003 yes (but not after the deadline)
  • @mtgwizard9003

This card doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Name/mechanics/subtype/etc. don't really work together very well (at least not in any obvious way). In fact this seems to conflict with it's own design quite heavily.

That aside, the custom mechanic "Feed" also needs an overhaul to be consistent with WoTC design.

Feed [cost] (When this creature dies, you may pay its feed cost. If you do, another target creature you control gets +*/+* until end of turn.)

The * would have to be static across every creature with feed unless you wanted to provide additional numeric variation within the keyword itself (ie. Feed 2 [cost]); then, however, the *'s would have to be equal to each other (which I suggest they should be anyway).

    Hope you find this helpful!
  • @Faiths_Guide

I Know it's not the best names, I was low on ideas, and for the mechanic, it was supposed to be like Bloodrush except for when the creature dies. Cards don't have Bloodrush 2, for example
  • Ah, understood. Still needs rewording because it isn't an alternate cast cost or anything.
  • RESULTS:
@jchen5012 Is the winner with Retribution! You are awarded 5 favourites!
@Faiths_Guide is the runner up with Homage! You are awarded 3 favourites!
@mtgwizard9003 and @nanosaurus will both recieve 1 favourite!
    Thank you all for participating.
