Need Mechanic Help!

I've recently been working on a set that has a subtheme of tapping, and so i've decided to make a mechanic much like crew, but with an entirely different flavor, in that one creature rides atop another creature, like a horse and it's rider. However I'm not sure how to do this mechanic. I have listed below some of my attempts to do this. Please give me your honest opinion and advice. Thanks :)

  • Both Xegthe and the first Tamed Griffin (1) are incredibly niche. You limit that creature to essentially being an equipment for a turn which isn't that great. Also, Xegthe's ability seems backwards - when you read 'Mount' you assume the ability refers to the rider embarking on the other. Same critique on Sunlight Raptor. Your second Tamed Griffin is essentially crew.

There's an argument to be made for transferring the mount-ing creature's abilities but it's an extra block of text that I'm not sure you want. It's a bit wordy, but I'd angle toward something like this:

Mount (Tap a nonattacking creature you control to give this creature +X/+Y until end of turn, where X is that creature's power and Y is that creature's toughness. This creature gains all abilities of that creature until end of turn. That creature can't attack this turn. Activate this ability only once each turn.)

    Hope this helps!
  • I made a mount mechanic not long ago. It's very different though.
What you are doing seems to be a mix of vehicles, equipment, bestow auras, and banding. But what is it you want the mechanic to achieve? Do the creatures merge while attacking? Does one use the other as a shield? Do they share abilities?

How's this? This way the mount can still attack/block like normal but can still pump a creature and taps.
