Recurring Artwork Challenge #1 - Abstract
Hey guys!
Since I'm a huge fan of great artwork on magic cards, I'd like to host a challenge on a regular basis, where I'll post up to three artworks with a different theme each time. Then you create an awesome card for it.
Rules:
One entry per artwork. You can create any kind of card you like, no restrictions, as long as you're using the given artworks. You can edit the entry as many times as you like till I close the challenge for judging.
Judging will occur one week after the start of the challenge, this time it'll be the 21.03.17.
Criteria:
- Color, ability, and flavor matching to the artwork
- Balance (no OP cards please)
- Proper MTG wording and grammer
Prizes:
There'll be three winners per challenge, one for each artwork. They each get three favorites of my choice and maybe a follow Also I'll favorite all entries I like.
Without further ado, here are the first three artworks. The overall theme is "Abstract":
_____Artists_____ (thanks @Faiths_Guide)
1. Anna Dittman
2. Magdalena Pagowska
3. Anna Dittman
Have fun!

Slight rewording on Billows.
Len_yan is the artist name Magdalena Pagowska goes by on Deviantart.
Just added the token for illustative purposes (it is obviously not an entry and should not be counted as such or influence anything)
2. An offensive chant for chant decks.
3. AND! The number 1 reason I went this route! Who else saw Auramancer within 2 seconds of seeing this art. It seems like a cheap cop-out, but in my defense, I designed a combo around my vision. 'Nuff said.
------Edit-----------
Now that I've sat back and looked at this... I don't see the benefit. Your adding cost to Auramancer and reducing the cost of enchants. ...And... its... not really worth it.
Oh well.
"Oh no, your 13 Rosebuds just killed my Emrakul~"
Lul.
XD
the theme just defines the artwork, so your card can be anything you want it to be

2nd entry:
3rd entry, last but not least:
@TenebrisNemo with Presence of Nothingness

I really like the flavour of this card and it definetly represents the artwork in a suiting way. Very good implementation of the given artwork.
2nd artwork winner:
@Faiths_Guide with Selfless Will

That's pretty much the effect I would have used with this artwork, so yeah, that's why I chose this card. Simple, but clean design.
3rd artwork winner:
And again @Faiths_Guide with Silk Billows

Awesome choice to use "Theros-Flavour" for this artwork. Cool effect and the flavor text is great. ;D
@Credius I really liked your "Blessings of the Wind" too, but there were some formatting issues, so it didn't make it to the top.
Congrats amd thanks @everyone for participating, I'll soon host a new artwork challenge. Please give me some feedback, what I can change or what you liked/didn't like so much with this kind of challenge. Prizes have been distributed
Regards, Koover
I thought the contest was sweet and have no changes to suggest. Thanks a bunch for the very nice contest judging/summary and I'm glad you liked my submissions!
Congrats @TenebrisNemo!
This has been an excellent contest!
Only recommendation would be to have multiple art styles in terms of methods. That would give people opportunity to make some cards that evoke old MTG themes. As well as could reminisce some of the interesting art styles like the stain glass in either the foreground or background of the artwork from Eldritch Moon.
The current ones had very similar tones and styles in many ways. Not that they weren't beautiful, they definitely are!
This contest was fantastic, I can't think of anything bad about it hoho haha!
Just like @modnation675 said, multiple art styles wouldn't hurt. It would add some more flavor for the contests.
And congratulations to you as well, @Faths_Guide!
