I recommend that you look into "Instruct":
Instruct ({t}: Tap any number of untapped creatures you control. They become instructed until end of turn.)
Thematically it's a Bant centered mechanic, that is capable of splashing Black/Red.
Based on a concept of mine, it was designed/developed by @Monty, @VinylVantasy, and I with some community help.
Another example:
In my cube I run the following:
Blue 50
Black 50
Red 50
Green 50
White 50
Gold 35
Land 25
50 Colorless (25 of which are color fixing (The Signets, The Keyrunes, and the Myr)
Green-Blue-Red's Strategy will be Bidoof Tribal:

Red Black Will be Viking Madness (I use madness in my actual cube, It works really well)

Also on the token matter, it seems by just looking through some people's sets, you can get a strategy easily without relying too heavily on individual mechanics
Instruct ({t}: Tap any number of untapped creatures you control. They become instructed until end of turn.)
Tribal Bidoofs
Tokens
I think populate would be a nice mechanic then.
Most of these themes seem to apply more to Bant colors than anything else. Sacrifice works really nice with tokens. I like the Bloodborne mechanic here. http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/tomb-born-twisted.
The thing about cube is, You should really make sure that your mechanics and themes work well with each other. It is going to be a literal garbage fire if they don't.
Tokens/Instruct
Madness
Instant/Sorcery
1: They clog up the board and make games go really long.
2: They don't play very well with most other themes (except sacrifice)
I think you should do Eldrazi spawn/scion type tokens instead of hard tokens. While they do still have a tendency to clog up the board a bit, they oftentimes help ramp players play big things without needing as many "Ramp Only" cards. Think Kozileks Predator and Nest Invader.

As for allies, avoid that. I tried an ally tribal deck in my first cube and it was the single worst design decision I have ever made.

We just like the new archetypes and hilarious gameplay of those ones of our cards. If we wanted to dump cards on this thread, we would've posted more recent cards.
