Chivialry Mechanic

So I'm making a set based Arthurian lore and I have come into a block of a mechanic that I would like to make called chivalry. I've wanted this mechanic to be similar to the Bushido mechanic from Kamigawa but every thing I've thought of is either too broken such as if this creature is blocked or blocks it gains indestructible until end of turn or it is too much of a tribal this which i do not want in the set EX: For each creature that has chivalry this creature gets +1/+1 any opinions would be good.

Comments

  • By definition, chivalry means "the medieval knightly system with its religious, moral, and social code." How can a card embody chivalry? Here are some ideas:

    * It could embody politeness, as in "Chivalry - At the end of combat on your turn, if creatures dealt damage by {creature} didn't die, {effect}"

    * It could embody a code of honor among other members, like "Chivalry - Whenever {creature} blocks or becomes blocked by a creature that shares a type with it, {effect}"

    * It could also just be a rewording of the Bushido mechanic, which is fine as well.

Another thing you could do is use one of my most recent custom mechanics: Confront. Confront is an ability that triggers whenever the creature blocks or becomes blocked by a creature with greater power. Example effects could include other creatures getting 1/+1 until end of turn, the creature gaining indestructible, or casting and attaching an aura from your hand onto it for free. I think it would work well in an Arthurian plane!

A mix of bushido and 'politeness' could be that the +N/+N only triggers when the knight blocks or is blocked by a single creature. Sort of like a fair duel.

The real challenge is to make a joust mechanic that combines first strike and horsemanship somehow. <.<
  • I believe Joust would have to embody some form of color influence...

Joust ({1}, {t}: This creature fights target creature with Joust. If {r} was paid, this creature gains first strike until end of turn.)

And it would only be used on Knight creatures...
  • It could represent protecting the weak by giving them a bonus.
E.g Chivalry- Creatures you control with power less than CARDNAME's get (effect).

    I like @Brainifyer's idea.

As for your idea @Corwinnn, it seems like a really bad idea outside of a standard and/or limited format focused on it. As such, I don't think it could realistically exist.
  • @modnation675... Yeah, it would have to be for a specialized set, not much evergreen about it in that formatting!

    @Brainifyer might be onto something
  • What about something totally different, @TheStormlord?

Chivalry (Whenever this creature would deal combat damage, you may prevent any amount of that damage.)

Then the creature card could have some*Effect* triggered by preventing points of damage.

I like @Brainifyer 's idea, I also like the of it being a blocking trigger I have thought that something could happen if they die of combat damage, and don't worry joust will be in the set but it will be an instant card where 2 card with horsemanship fight. also the confront mechanic seems legit @Gelectrode

Also is any of you wish to view the set it is on the mtg card smith sight under my profile named Recollection feel free to leave any constructive feed back.
  • Can you link the set please? I can't seem to find it.
  • @Brainifyer
    For TheStormlord's set, click here.
  • This set looks really neat.

@TheStormlord Have you looked at the old Pendragon game? There's a lot of stuff there that could inspire.
  • Hey guys I think that I could make chivalry to be when this creature blocks prevent x damage felt to it. Where x is the chivalry value. Does that seem playable
  • This would be a more limited version of Absorb?
