  • Hmm... Fourth Eldrazi titan? :P Jk. Maybe there could be a race of automatons @Mellenius
  • edited August 2017
Yeah... Maybe this could be the premise: There used to be a diverse world, but there was a Noah's Ark type incident and it was flooded. Now, there exist only volcanic islands and the sea. Surfers, volcano cultists and artisans all are occupations that are common, and occasionally ancient, rusted automatons rise out of the sea. This is... (can we vote on a plane name?)

And it appears, @Mellenius, that these automatons are highly intelligent and starting a race all their own. Maybe that works for you?
  • @Everyone, if you are creating cards, use the Mirage symbol.
  • What about Lagok?

Kind of moana inspired mechanic I thought of a few months ago. Still a rough draft. Wanted to capture flavor of their sailing teams voyaging for new lands.

Wayfind n (Whenever this permanent enters the battlefield, you may tap n untapped creatures you control. If you do, reveal the top n cards of your library. You may put a land card from among them onto the battlefield tapped. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.)

  • @saveria201

We made something similar, meant mostly for mono blue. That's not really a ramp colour, but it can be justified with flavour.

Voyage ({Cost}, tap a crewed vehicle you control: Search your library for a basic island card and put it into the battlefield tapped and exerted, then shuffle your library.)

Your mechanic seems like it would fit much better than Voyage, especially when you take into account that sets don't exist in a vaccuum. Perhaps we could find a way to create a twisted hybrid of the two? Some sort of Simic Mechanic Mutation of Evolution Progress Results?

I'm unsure about what you want in the lore, but in my mind the world already faced a large cataclysm that sent the native population back hundreds of generations in technology. The Wastelands close to the ground zero having the only remaining artifacts of the previously advanced civilization of a lost time. The colorless tribe would be people who've put themselves through the struggle of surviving in the wastes to be able to learn and understand that tech to try to unlock secrets of the past as to what happened to their ancestors.

But thats only my thinking... if we are going to have the red tribe be volcano centric I have one last idea. I'm thinking of having their mana ramp be centered around "volcanic eruptions" blasting away their lands. And having burn effects triggered off of when a non-creature source deals damage to them.

    imageimage

    Example mechanics:

Revenge N (When this creature is damaged by a non-creature source, it deals N damage to target creature.)

Eruption - (Whenever a land you control is put into the graveyard from the battlefield, {effect} )
  • Ohhhh I love eruption as a mechanic for a Polynesian mono-red tribe. Very flavorful.

I'm thinking of how to mix Wayfind and voyage. I'll post later if I think of some way.

    Volcanoes!
You know Innistrad @Mellenius? I mean for there to be volcano cultists, like the Skirsdag cultists, who worship the mighty lava. Maybe you have some ideas? And Eruption is very smart, I like it.
@Saveria201 you can make blue voyager- and surfer-type cards if you want.
  • @TezzeretofCarmot21

I made a mechanic for my Zendikar set called Manaburst, and I think it could fit here as well.

Manaburst (As you cast this spell, you may sacrifice a land. If you do, add three mana of any colour to your mana pool.)

  • Wave crash is kind of OP @sanjaya666.
  • If land searching doesn't work, generic mana production is within blue's color pie. Maybe Wayfind N (When this creature enters the battlefield, add {N} to your mana pool)
Also, I think colorless elementals might make a cooler feel than constructs if we can flavor them right. Maybe they lost their ties to color with the flood? And what caused a flood in this world?

@Sanjaya666 I think X target creatures with converted mana cost X or less might make this easier to do at common

And the colorless elementals, if we go that route, could be some kind of sand elemental since sand often has a colorless affiliation, as with a lot of the deserts

    @Stormtide

    Here it is then...

Wavecrash X (When this permanent enters the battlefield, return X target creatures with converted mana X or less to their owners' hand.)

Sand elementals seem fine by the way.

    Ok then...
  • Just so they're in one place, what are the faction mechanics?
  • Maybe there could be elementals all over the plane. And there used to be a thriving civilization on the now-ocean floor. But, there was a cataclysmic flood. Now, the remaining people live on volcanic islands in harmony with each other and the elementals. Occasionally, old automatons from the ancient civilization crawl onto the shores.
  • Faction mechanics I'm not sure yet. Ask @NokiSkaur
  • @Everyone Okay here are the starting mechanics:
Green - Artisans - Weave ({t}: Create a green Basket artifact token with "Sacrifice this artifact: Add {g} to your mana pool.")
Blue - Voyage ({Cost},Tap a crewed vehicle you control: Search your library for a basic Island land and put it onto the battlefield tapped. Then shuffle your library.)
Black - Ritual (As you cast this card, you may sacrifice a creature and pay {mana cost} in addition to this card's other costs. If you do, {effect}.)
Red - Eruption - (Whenever a land you control is put into the graveyard from the battlefield, {effect} ) and damaging lands.
    White - ideas appreciated!
Also, can I have 5 possible plane names? The first 5 I will put into a poll, and there will be a vote. The most popular plane name will win, and please a) only vote once and b) put a message on the message board denoting you've cast your vote.
Keep up the good work, guys!
  • Could the plane be called Lagok? It's not the best name, but it's a start.
  • Okay, I'll add that in as a possible candidate.
Four more spaces left for plane names

Does Voyage have to be crewed vehicles? Might make it a bit less restrictive if it can be uncrewed.
For white, I think something about bringing back from graveyard as trying to bring back the old civilization.
Lastly, since this is a monocolor set, I think that all of what would be multicolor cards in a normal set should be hybrid instead. This isn't Shadowmoor all out though.

Also, Piholo means drowned which might be a cool name for a flooded world.
What races are on the world? We need to make sure to spread the races out among the colors well since this is a mono color set.

    Possible name for plane:
    1. Lagok ( @NokiSkaur )
    2. Piholo ( @Stormtide )
    3. Maikana (me)
    4. (Anything else?)

May I just make a request that for proper nouns, we stick to the letters of the Hawaiian alphabet? I think that might make it more flavorful, though I would get it if that seems a bit too much work for not much reward
    A, B, D, E, H, I, K, L, M, N, O, P, R, T, U, V, W
  • Name Suggestion: Pōmaika'i
  • edited August 2017
Okay, so one more name slot! Great creative ideas @everyone!

Hawalo Island is one of the many islands that people live on in this plane. It is the second biggest island, and highly populated.
