Why those colors? And that could get confusing, So I think searching for a land might be better. However, the tokens would definitely be interesting. I think they should enter tapped though, or else there would be some super chaotic combos. Still a definite possibility that the combos will happen anyway. And with Hivis, I don't think it would work lore-wise. We can bring back the character, but he would need to become a planeswalker, and become immortal. So it would have to be a new card.
@Stormtide Maybe we need legendary Flamekin, like Ashling from Lorwyn. How about we model this set after Lorwyn? They seem to share strong tribal themes, and I think there could be a dark reflection...
@TezzeretofCarmot21 I think that's a bit too close to Lorwyn. If you want this to be a strong tribal, I'm cool with that. I have a question that's very important to me though: What will the zombies of the plane be like? The spirits of fallen warriors I mentioned earlier could very well be repurposed as zombies. And Zombies wouldn't be bad even with a Tribal component, because it can so easily be added to other creature types.
@TezzeretofCarmot21 What if it's kind of like on Theros, where there are Spirits and Zombies for the same person. (If you don't know the story behind them, look up the Returned from Theros. They're really interesting, imo)
Can we avoid an "end of the world" plot though? Maybe the humans who explore new islands discover some that are corrupted and then become stranded there after their Tiki guardians are drained of thier energies...? Because of the corruption? So they (whoever the protagonists are) have to discover what/who is causing the corruption?
Maybe the protagonists discover a very wide, dangerous island/archipelago of islands and have to find a way to escape or solve whatever mystery is there.
Hm, I was thinking more of among this: Humans on Hawalo Island, their chosen settlement, suddenly get bombarded by a volcano. The king, Ipolo, is sent with two young explorers to investigate why the volcano is so active. They discover that their gods are real, that aven and merfolk can help them, and that there is an ancient evil behind the volcanic activity.
Lorwyn/Shadowmoor is one of the reasons I suggested scarecrows. It might not fit well culturally, but I think scarecrows could be explored more as a tribe. If you think about it, most planes have something that doesn't reflect the culture/concept represented. Innistrad had steampunk elements, Ravnica has gorgons, Kaladesh has very little to do with India aside from general aesthetics, and so on.
I think the tribal should be a bit different than what has been suggested, for no other reason than to fit more closely with actual Polynesian myth. Going off of some of @NokiSkaur's ideas:
W (Flying): Spirits, Birds
W (Non-Flying): Menehune (Dwarves)
U (Flying): Spirits, Birds
U (Non-Flying): Leviathans, Merfolk, Fish, Turtles
B (Flying): Demons (I don't like this one since demon's in a western sense aren't a part of Polynesian culture. There are demons (kind of), but their not evil flying things, really more akin to horrors), Birds
B (Non-Flying): Tiki, Kakamura (Goblins), Horrors
R (Flying): (Devoid, maybe volcanic ash elementals?)
R (Non-Flying): Tiki, Kakamura (Goblins), Menehune (Dwarves)
If you want to do factions, I would do 5 2-color factions, but using a mix of allied and enemy color pairings. Mechanically speaking, It seems like we have a base for:
WG Artisans, RB Cultists, UG Wayfinding, WR Dwarves, UB Shamans.
I've edited the list. It isn't exactly the same as what you're proposing, but it follows a bit more closely. If this does end up being tribal, I'd rather exclude goblins. I understand that they're a staple of both Magic and multiple world cultures, but I feel there's very little to be done with the idea. I'll do a bit more research on the culture, and if I see significant differences, I'll add them in their respective colours.
@Everyone I had an idea for a small challenge - select your favorite 'walker and make a version of them for this set that is flavorful and balanced! For me, for example, I could make "Nicol Bolas, Coconut King."

Like Moana's plot line a bit. Just an idea.
Oh, and the ancient evil is actually a slumbering planeswalker.
Less cliché, more deaths, more original.

I've wanted to do a Polynesian inspired world myself for a while,I even made a single card for it :P https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/hehena-island-shaman-1

G (Non-Flying): Beasts
WUBRG: Humans, Gods, Demigods? Maybe have Demi as a separate subtype? (for example, it would be a Creature- Demi God)
Classes: Shaman, Priest, Warrior, Mystic, Artisan, Fishermen, Artificer(?)

@KrampisZman Nice to meet you! Good to have you on the project.
In making this, I realized that Tikis would work well with an enchantment theme
I am the King!
