  • @ManaChrome Decks I would like to see:
    G/W Enchantress
    U/R Artifacts (Artificer Tribal Subtheme)
    Jund -1/-1 Counters
    Esper Embalm/Eternalize (Graveyard Value subtheme)

I like the themes you guys are suggesting so far, but how could they fit into the cardsmiths
that we want to represent? Especially if we want to go with the Partner route...

Alright, so (let's imagine that) 10 cardsmiths are going to be represented with 5 decks, with 2 cardsmiths leading one precon. As to not have the partner commanders be useless if
they aren't paired with their partner in the precon, let's have them care about the same theme in different ways. Like how Silas Ren and Akiri both support an artifact theme, but have drastically different playstyles if not paired with any other partner! (Think Stitcher Geralf and Ghoulcaller Gisa, doing different things with Zombies)

Let's take @KrampisZman 's example... In a U/R Artifact/Artificer playstyle, the Red partner can focus on sacrificing artifacts for damage and recurring artifacts, while the Blue partner can give abilities to certain artifacts, or making certain artifact tokens (like servos, thopters, or clues!). Among the two, the Red partner is a more focused artificer, focused on it's archetype. But the Blue partner, an Innistrad investigator, can lead a drastically different deck if it leads it's own army without any other partner commander!

Here's an actual talk on the cardsmiths topic...

Although we obviously want to include some of the most well known cardsmiths from tales of legend XD, we can also include some not so well known newcomers to the site...
  • @ManaChrome What if we went with 4 decks (as that is how WOTC will be doing EDH decks from now on) that each have 3 commanders. 1 "Face" commander (like Atraxa, Breya, The Ur-Dragon, Freyalise, Etc.) and then a partner pair. The Face commander would be focused on the main theme, and would be the simplest option for the decks. Then, the partners would still work well with the main theme of the deck, but might explore a subtheme or demand a slightly different build to reach their full potential.

For example, in a Jund -1/-1 Counters deck, we would have our main Three color Jund commander who synergizes well with adding or removing -1/-1 counters.

Then, our partners would have slightly different themes. Maybe we would have a B/R commander who gives our creatures with counters some sort of ability (like flying, shadow, first strike, deathtouch, infect, etc.) and then a G/B commander who lets us put counters on our creatures for value like BG, Put a -1/-1 counter on two target creatures you control: draw a card.

I'm personally not a huge fan of Partners, from my experience they have been kinda clunky with the exception of Kydele and Vial Smasher, but I think they could be fun if they are done right.

@Corwinnn Rly good, but where's Partner?
And there should be a Squirrel commander for you...
  • edited August 2017
@KrampisZman Ah, well, I understand if you aren't fully supportive of the idea, a "main" commander with two supporting partners sounds good if the partner idea flops or if people would like the traditional way precons should be built :)

And I guess now we actually want to think about what commanders (and possible) commanders we should feature... Lemme look at the people I follow lol... Corwinnn, Faiths_Guide, modnation675, TheFriendlyGeek and a couple of others... and I know that there are these amazing smiths that were active before I was on, and maybe a bunch of the talented smiths that are new to the site :)

I'm new but I'm not talented @ManaChrome xD
    Would u do me...?
  • @ManaChrome

I'm fairly new, but I'm not great. I certainly have my higher points. If you want, you could make an R->B Noki->Skaur flip card out of me. I'll add some other contribution to this thread by the end of the week.
  • I'm not new, and not great. Averagers unite!
  • @Lujikul

    Buuuurrrrrrmmm! Brmburburmbuuuuuuurrrrm. Brumurmbuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrmmm!!!!!!
  • I'll have what the @NokiSkaur is having, @ManaChrome - one flip card, but with a legend on one side and a Tezzeret 'walker on the other. I'll try to help this thread.
  • I'll work on the Partner later tonight! I haven't picked a newbie for it yet! I also need to correct the mistake!
  • Ooh, pick me! Pick me @Corwinnn
  • @Manachrome
I would love to be apart of this! Maybe I could be a partner commander that deals with dragons and/or control somehow?
  • This set sounds REALLLLLLLY sweet! I'm one of the favored members. The oldies back in Animist's day would know me because I started back then when I was 11 or 12 years old. I am thirteen verging onto fourteen on September 16 and have been loving making cards since I was 11 making crappy vanilla hybrid cards with evergreen keywords.

I have grown in my smithery and I love the community on here. If only I had more time for mtgcardsmith. I'm a freshman now, so I have school and I'm also on the high school football team (wide receiver if you are wondering). This gives me only a little margin of time when I get home to practice my competitive magic, check my social media, and hang with friends.

Mtgcardsmith is now more of a "do this if I have nothing else to do" kind of thing. I want to be more involved however then the past year of being idle.

If you would like to nominate me, here are my Magic stats and likings:

    - Nahiri Balance in Modern (way more competitive then at first glance) : http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/nahiri-balance-primer/
    - Boros Burn in Modern
    - KCI Trawler in Modern
    - UB Gift in Standard
    - Unesh EDH

    My colors are MARDU!!!!

    - I like prison decks, control decks, combo decks, walkers, and burn.
    - I dislike decks that rely on their creatures, things like Kiki-Chord, Infect
    - This doesn't mean I dislike swarm decks like a squirrel deck. In fact I love swarm decks and creature decks. Just not decks that NEED specific creatures to win.

    - Favorite Tribe: WARRIORS

    -------------------------------------------------

Enough about me. Who do I nominate?

    Animist!!!!!!!!

Can I nominate a user that is not active? I hope so because this cardsmith legend DESERVES to have a custom commander for this set!

For sure @TheFriendlyGeek, we want to include as many iconic cardsmiths in this circle! :)
  • How is this for a Partner to Gel-Ectrode, Izzet Druid?

    image
  • @Corwinnn Why is Tezzeret a weird? Lol.
  • edited August 2017
    Because I'm weird @Sanjaya666.
Oh, and @Corwinnn you got to add the Partner keyword on there.
  • edited August 2017
I think right now we should settle on what our five (or four) main commander's should be... Because at least that way, we would get to know what our main themes/playstyles would be, so that we can have our other "supporting/partner" commanders to follow those playstyles!

On a side note, what should the color identity of our commanders be? We could have a bunch of decks with different amounts of colors, a monocolored deck, a guild-colored deck, a wedge-colored deck, a four color deck, and a five color deck! (We should probably only do the first for since 5 colored decks are hard to make, and I think alot of people are already happy with Ramos as a 5-color commander :P)

Also can I have a list of our possible cardsmiths? I'd like volunteers, in case anyone isn't comfortable with being in the spotlight :P So far, we have...
    -Corwinn
    -Faiths_Guide
    -modnation675
    -Nokiskaur
    -Lujikul
    -Karmadragon
    -TheFriendlyGeek
    -TezzeretofCarmot21

And can I also have a "my mtg personality" description from everyone so that I know what I'm working with? Like what TheFriendlyGeek did a while back? And also a nominee from everyone? Thanks :)

Any others I may have missed?
  • @Gelectrode I don't mean to be picky, but bant isn't really my thing. I made a big comment about my mtg play style earlier :)
  • REALLY cool cards though
  • @Gelectrode
I think you missed me, @Flatfish, and @Yururu.
  • I think squirrels, because there is a squirreltopia set.
  • Mana-chromed arbiter looks like knight of new alara
