A bit of a design flaw in my opinion--infinite Trrus, infinite pump on all of your creatures next turn.
  • @NokiSkaur Sorry I don't follow, there is an infinite combo on the green planeswalker card?

Never mind. I forgot that planeswalkers got legendary errata now, and had the legendary subtype.

I vote that we DON'T return Nissa or Gideon. There's been so many recently in such a short amount of time.

@Lujikul Haha I guess Gatewatch-hate in general is a thing. We could probably go towards lesser know planeswalkers. How about bringing someone a bit random like they did with Vraska on Ixalan?
I do like the idea of a colour switch as well, though it may feel weird to mix it with the lesser known character idea, since it would only be his/her second appearance.

What did you think of the idea for Elpeth returning from Theros' hell? She's not a secondary character so the colour switch was interesting I thought.

Otherwise, to keep the same colour balance, we could bring back Kaya, she's a woman on top of that and the similarity between Fiora and Rezatta may help find a good reason to bring her on this plane?
  • I like the idea of returning Elspeth. She's a walker that hasn't made any super recent appearances, and has a reasonable explanation for a colorshift.
  • @sanjaya666 Ah Karn could work I guess, it's a bit sad that we don't get to colour balance the colours of our planeswalkers though (using 3 coloured-planeswalkers to compensate would make them unplayable in a regular environment I'm affraid :/)

@ningyounk 3 colored walker? Bolas is in this?
  • edited September 2017
@sanjaya666 No XD I meant that currently we managed to balance the colours of the three planeswalkers:
    WB Returning planeswalker (Elspeth)
    UR Da Vinci
    G Muse-touching planeswalker (the tree)

If we put Karn, we must either create four planeswalkers to reach colour balance — which is a bit much — or create this situation:
    UR Da Vinci
    WBG Abzan muse-touching planeswalker
    C Karn (returning planeswalker)

And a three-coloured planeswalker is hard to cast in a regular environment like we are planning to do. One solution could be to give Karn an actual colour but it's a bit weird and may end up dissapointing expectations for Karn.

@ningyounk Ah, so like that. Just forget Karn then.

Here's an art for Elspeth. But it seems too mono-black. Nevermind.

    image
  • @sanjaya666 It does fit monoblack quite well. I guess the counter planeswalker could make sense in GW colours to compensate if we wanted to turn Elspeth completely Black ^^

    image
  • @ningyounk Nice. Hope the abilities are balanced enough too.

@ningyounk Wait, what was her lore again? She returned from the Underworld, also changed her mind, lost her old weapon, got a new one, and went into Rezatta?
  • @sanjaya666 Not sure ^^ We're trying things that could be interesting as cards, then we get to find a lore for it. It really depends on which idea ends up the most exciting, I think I still prefer to see a WB Elspeth rather than a monoblack one so far, because that's how we usually see planeswalker changing colours (Ajani, Nissa, Garruk,...)

A two-coloured card featuring two returning monocoloured characters (for instance a WB card with Gideon and Liliana) could also be something new and interesting if we find the right art?

Perhaps Elspeth is being controlled by Erebos, living in servitude until she escapes his clutches. She is serving Erebos, spreading his influence throughout Rezzata instead of Theros. That would help with this guy's flavour text.

  • @NokiSkaur I like the idea of having Elspeth coming as an Erebos' servant. I don't think the art on this card is close enough to Elspeth though, but finding a good masked Elspeth illustration would really sell it to me ^^
  • That's not supposed to be Elspeth, that's just a person. Elspeth is quoted with the flavour text which is why I originally asked if Ajani was still WB.
  • @NokiSkaur Ah ok x) I think it could work, I'm unsure if it's better than the first one whith the white cape though? Here's a try:

Here's the one with the white cape again for comparison purpose:

  • I feel like the new art is better than the old art in general, though the old art gives more of an 'Real Elspeth is still alive' vibe.
  • @ningyounk The first one's just recolored Elspeth. The second one doesn't have the rancorous vibe or being black at all.

    @ningyounk
Also, planeswalkers can change their clothing too. You don't have to get the exact picture of them. Just look at Liliana, or the new Vraska.
  • @sanjaya666
While that's the case, her clothing is pretty much what makes Elspeth iconic and recognizable. Liliana is one of the faces of magic, along with having that crown-like thing, and Vraska's a gorgon. Elspeth's hood+cape combo is her big trait, along with her weapon. Take those away, and she wouldn't be recognizable.
  • @sanjaya666 @Lujikul I think recoloured Elspeth would be fine as a concept ^^ I'm not super fan of the light effect in her hand (and the size of her breast is dubiously increased I believe) though but they are small details overall.
It's true the white one is an official but unused artwork of her white self so we can't really see any change, I just thought the lightning could hint at her emerging from the shadows. We don't need to have a strong change in her look, and being Black doesn't mean you have to wear black robes and skull necklaces x) Kaya for instance is White/Black but doesn't feature those colours in an obvious way in her official art.

@Lujikul I would even say she doesn't need the spear to appear on the art to be recognizable, a female knight in a hood could probably do the trick if she has some similar physical feature.

@everyone Otherwise, if we can't find a decent twist for the returning planeswalker, we can always make an in-colour return? Here's a try at a visual for Sorin:

    image
  • @ningyounk
Sorin is out of his stone? Lol, for a perspective Ob Nixilis wasn't named "Ob Nixilis Out of His Hedron Shackles". Just saying.
  • @Sanjay666

Just follow Ob Nixilis's naming convention. Sorin Unstoned. I mean nobody wants a high planeswalker.
  • @serpentail Good thing Sorin went to a twelve step program. Three months sober, already.

Sorin Unstoned XD I can't stop laughing x')
