@Jonetman93 There is one problem with this contest: You have to create too many cards and find a ton of artwork - I am fresh out of artwork. I will throw some old counterspells on the fire to keep me alive, I guess:
    image
    image
Just something to think about ;)
  • @AxNoodle Yeah I have been thinking about that as well.
None are however required to use all of their slots each week.
I have had the idea that I give an above-the-graph amount of cards during the first two thirds of they journey so people can survive by card amount alone since quite many don't use all slots.
This might be a bad idea on my part though since it makes many believe that they have to create more cards.
So I want people to think of the card slots as potential rather than requirements. I rather want people to be able to create more cards if they are in the risk zone rather than keeping the card amount so low that they cannot do that.

So more cards favors determination while fewer cards favor card creation skills.

But as you said and has been mentioned before. More cards relates to more artwork which was something I had underestimated in the beginning. I would recommend you all who have difficulties finding artwork that connects with your planned cards to first find artwork that you like and then make cards around that. It is what I do most of the time with a few exceptions.

I'm thankful for the feedback! :)

    Dark Days to Come

A wraith clad in a dark armor was standing on a shore with cleched fists. In the path behind him, a large swath of forest and plant matters were destroyed beyond recognition. A village near that shore was also burned down that day.

Decayed bodies with horrific visages were lying around in that particular village. Children, adults, seniors, no matter the age.

'Tested? Trained? More like got stripped of their identities, their souls, their powers, then thrown back again to the prison where they belonged.'

At that moment, angry was an understatement for Septim Vulganos. He only found more hatred instead after another revelation he just obtained from a journal that was possessed by the now-dead village elder a moment ago, translated by the help from the necromancer associate of the dark planeswalker.

"So, do you still want to attempt to summon the serpent, my lord?" Asked the apparition of the female necromancer. A long distance communication spell towards the people he marked was very useful after all.

"No. Don't want to risk my only assurance to keep my planeswalker spark intact. I shall visit the tower and its master instead. Annihilating him and the tower shall bring the serpent to materialize into this world. At least I'm on the right track right now."

"It seems that that is the best decision, my lord. My followers and my undying hordes shall be ready at that moment. Although the powers of that serpent is still concerning, in my opinion."

"Either this or die trying. We shall see again later, Zafira."

"My lord." The female apparition bowed, then she slowly dissipated into the wind.

The wraith raised his right hand. Black mana was flowing out from him like a torrent of choking smokes. A dark-furred wolf with a pair of glowing yellow orbs was slowly materializing itself from the dark substances.

'Still an interesting place to enhance and learn about this new powers. But now it is not the right time for it.' The wraith innerly frowned.

  • We are closing in towards the 6th challenge. I hope that challenge will prove more interesting.
You guys got at least 11 hours left.

Do you guys feel like this journey is more like a chore than actual fun? I would in that case want to try making what is left hopefully more interesting.
  • Can I have some more time
  • I need to make a digital turtle draw a snowman...

I regret to say that I think I’ll be bowing out of this. Between the other ongoing contest I’m in, the impending cardsmith designer search, and some life stuff, this is one of the things I have less investment in. (No offense.) My time in this contest has been fun, and all your stories have been a delight to read. Even if I’m not participating, I’ll be watching eagerly to see how the rest of you do!
  • When you are low on time I suggest that you find artwork and make card out of them first. More ambiguous cards can be made when you have better time. Just a recommendation :)
  • I have most of the artwork. I just need time to finish school work and then brainstorm, then produce.

    I DREW A SNOWMAN WITH A TURTLE!!!
If you want to see, here's the link:
    https://codehs.com/share/N7G0mIy1aEA7IfnavQCB
(The reason that the snowman looks disabled is intention. It's stylistic as a sort of something.)
  • @Jonteman93, what slots do I have available?
  • @Ranshi922 That depends on which option you pick from last challenge. A or B.
Regardless of which you pick. You have at least 5 common, 4 uncommon, 4 rare and a legendary.
Option A gives you an additional legendary and a color. (5 total cmc)
Option B gives you an additional rare and one higher cmc. (6 total cmc)
  • I see no need for me to complicate things with more colors... so fire logic it will stay!
  • So I have
    C - 5
    U - 4
    R - 5
    M - 0
    L - 1
    M CMC - 6
    That's all correct?
  • Then I don't have enough art!
  • @Ranshi922 You don't need art for everything. You only need/(is recommended to have) for those cards you post.
  • How would I post them here without posting?
  • You don't need to find 14 different pieces of artwork. You only to find artwork for those cards you plan on posting. Then later you can find additional artwork for the additional cards you want to post then.
  • @Jonteman93, how many players will get eliminated this round?
  • @Ranshi922 We'll see. It depends on the current points of those in the risk zone and the speed in which we want to reach the tower. (I haven't gotten any feedback about that yet though)
  • Ummm Imma put out another non art thing for now...because no computer on me at moment...I will have one soon I will do it then
  • What's the risk zone's edge? How many points do I have?

    For the challenge:

    For my spellbook:

(@Jonteman93 If able, treat Riddle Ambush as an entry for Through the Breach.)

And finally, my story segment. (I'm trying way too hard on my story so I'm way behind. This segment is more informational than story and takes place at the beginning of Through the Breach. I should catch up over the weekend.) (Don't bother reading this unless you are seized with a sudden interest in the creatures of Clancularius.)

    V. Beirani, part 1/4

An Overview of the Creatures of Clancularius Generally and Frynheina Specifically by Vijay Zejid

This text serves as a guide to the creatures of Clancularius and Frynheina, which I have travelled extensively. Each section outlines a species, its habits, and its location.
    -V. Zejid, D.M.B.

    1. Humans
Humans live all across Clancularius due to their high adaptability, diversity, and ingenuity. They are about 1.6-1.8 meters in height. They pursue many different ways of life, from sophisticated wizards of the Tristania Academy to nomadic warriors from the Wild Lands. Their societies are constantly expanding, often leading to conflict with other races. For example,…

    2. Elves
Elves are a humanoid race specially adapted to the forest. They are slenderer than humans, but are taller, about 1.8-2.0 meters tall. They are distinguished by their long ears, which allow them to hear sounds beyond the human range. Elves are usually bonded to one forest, forming groups called
deresthat inhabit and guard that forest. A single dere can contain anywhere from one hundred elves in a close-knit village to hundreds of thousands of elves inhabiting towns or cities scattered across a large area. Elves can be found from the boreal forests of the north and far south to tropical rainforests such as the Cestina Rainforest, which is home to a union of deresheaded by Rtla'aqax, a dere empire with about two million members.…

    3. Dwarves
Another humanoid race, dwarves are stocky and muscular but stand shorter than humans at 1.4-1.6 meters, and their strength and agility make them perfectly adapted for life in the mountains. Usually industrious and hardworking, dwarves build their kingdoms both above and below ground among Clancularius's mountain ranges. The most common social structure for dwarves is divided into units called clans. Each clan is devoted to a certain aspect of life, such as forging, fighting, building, or brewing. Each clanlord pledges his or her clan's allegiance to a king. In this way, kingdoms are composed of an affiliation of clans, each performing a specific role in the society. Clans may change kingdoms in the event of…

    4. Merfolk
Merfolk are an odd race, having both humanoid and piscine traits. They are about the same size as humans, have both gills and lungs, and are able to traverse both on land and in the water with ease. Merfolk states include Gyllia, Vureni, and Aulene in the Tenia Ocean (the Ocean). Merfolk are often ruled by a chancellor, appointed by a ministry that is elected by the people. The election process is complex and varies from republic to republic. Merfolk republics devote most of their energy to self-advancement instead of power and as such, produce some of the best scholars…

    5. Viashino
Viashino are a saurian race with height comparable to elves. They are mentioned as having relatively sophisticated civilizations during the most ancient records of all humanoids, except possibly the merfolk. They have largely been displaced from their original habitat by encroaching humans and dwarves, and their numbers are lower than they once were. Viashino can tolerate far worse air, water, and food quality than the humanoids, allowing them to live in hostile environments such as active volcanoes and deep bogs. They are also adept at navigating near-vertical environments, letting them inhabit caves and sheer cliffs. Their loss of range causes the viashino to inhabit places like these more often than not. Viashino society is largely split between two sides. One side lives apart from the other races, calling them inferior and practicing old ways. These viashino are often resentful of the other races for usurping their dominance over Clancularius. The other side has accepted the new reality, and viashino like this often form peaceful farming and trading communities. Others live among the other races, using their unique abilities to forge a place for themselves in society. Viashino of this side want to get the most they can out of their own lives, a concept they call
ykreth. All viashino are able to consume corpses, even rotting ones, with no ill effects. It is a common practice among viashino to eat the corpses of their fallen, which arises from…

    6. Tehans
Tehans are a rare, enigmatic race that seem to be an amalgamation of a cat, a fox, a snake, and a dragon. They have no need to walk, for gravity does not effect them. Some theorize that tehans were created when various species were mutated by a magical anomaly, while another possible explanation is they were engineered by another species, or perhaps created by the world itself. Whatever the reason, tehans are real, not a myth as commonly believed, and reside in villages that magically appear at different places around Clancularius seemingly at random. The largest population is in the Wild Lands, and there is rumored to be a permanent tehan city somewhere there. Tehans have an insatiable curiosity and their moving villages allow them to collect a great deal of knowledge and artifacts. They place great value on skill, and the most respected tehans are the ones that have mastered the most forms of magic, branches of science, or artifacts.…

    7. Goblins
Goblins are nearly extinct in Frynheina, existing in large numbers only on the other continents such as Selamore. They are green-, grey-, and tan-skinned humanoids about 1.2-1.4 meters tall. Today, they live in primitive conditions deep in caves and mountains, competing with other species everywhere they live. Goblins survive countless attacks by viashino, dwarves, starvation, and disease only by their prodigious offspring. Only about one in ten goblins survives to have children. It wasn't always like this, however. A groundbreaking archeological find in the Huelkas shows conclusive evidence of a goblin civilization there about 700 years ago. The site contains a goblin city called Pingesh long buried by a landslide, and the event that is now known as the Goblin Cataclysm is recorded on stele. The stele tell of the murder of Tyheck, god of the goblins, by Bolken, god of the dwarves, at the climax of a war between the two races. This deicide caused all goblins to lose their ability to do magic, silencing their shamans and stilling their artificers. The Goblin Cataclysm led to the destruction of the Huelkan goblins, and the rest fell into primitivism. Some goblins gain a shred of the magical power they have lost by promising servitude to powerful beings like demons, dragons, and elementals, whether or not such beings are receptive of the servitude. At least one group of goblins has abandoned magic altogether, relying solely on science and technology, and have made surprising progress with burning coalstone to power their machines…

    8. Sphinxes
Sphinxes are a chimerical species (having the parts of many different animals) rarely seen since medieval times. They have the face of a human, the body and legs of a lion, and the wings of a bird. Such creatures fly using partly magical means and are highly intelligent, only speaking in riddles as they will only converse with people intelligent enough to decipher them…

    9. Dragons
    10. Phoenixes
    11. Elementals
    12. Dryads

Ok! I have not actually created anything for this week! Let's do that! But first, some story blurb context.

After a few days on the road again, Aggrol and the crew came to the beach, where they got their first look at the ocean. "Wow. It's so pretty!" Searshean said. "I never got a view like this from the volcano. This is great!" Aggrol had to agree. The ocean was beautiful. "But how are we going to cross it? None of us can swim, Sean will probably die if he touches water, and I don't see a boat around here." Aggrol questioned. Nobody was sure, and everyone was racking their brains for ideas when Sam shouted, "Hey! Guys! Over here! I found something cool!" They raced over there, and before them stood a large portal. It had a message in an unknown language carved across the top. "Hey, guys. I recognize this language. There were once some goblins living at the volcano, and I saw them using this script." Sean said. Aggrol was confused. "The last time I saw goblins, they were groveling at the feet of some demon. How could they manage to create something like this?" "I've heard rumors of an ancient goblin civilization that was actually, well, civilized. They used magic and machines, and had large cities. I've heard other rumors that there are current goblin civilizations on other continents, but there are none here." Sam responded. "So do we go through it?" "Well I think that we just see where it leads. What's the worst that could happen?" Sean said. "We could end up in the devil-realm." Aggrol provided. "Well, that's very unlikely. I'm going in." Sean said as he jumped through the portal. "Ok then. It seems we have little choice now. Let's go." Aggrol said. They went through the portal, and came out in a strange area of floating islands with more portals on them. "Well, at least it's not the devil-realm." Aggrol said.

    image

"Where the heck are we?" Sean asked. Aggrol responded, "I have no idea. But if we don't start moving, we won't find out." "Hey, idiot! How are we supposed to start moving if we can't get off this island?" Sam asked. Just then, Aggrol saw what looked like a humanoid bear jump off one of the platforms and come to their island. "Hello. I am a warrior of the Helurar clan of Ursulae. I was sent to welcome you to the Overlay." the bear said. Sean responded almost immediately with, "What the heck is an 'Overlay'?"

    image

"The Overlay is a realm that lies over the world of Clancularius. It is unclear which world came first, but they mirror each other, and events in one have an effect on the other. Come, let me show you around." the bear explained. He led them from platform to platform until they reached a large island with a castle, and what looked like a snow-covered volcano. "That volcano is the Overlay counterpart to the volcano you used to call home, Searshean." the bear said. "What the heck? How do you know my name and where I live?" Sean asked. The bear laughed. "Oh, we've been watching Aggrol. What he's involved in is kind of like a game we watch up here. Everyone knows all the contestants. You and all the others. My best friend was especially sad when Thedure caught NPCitis and was eliminated. He was his favorite contestant." "Wait. So I'm on some kind of crazy game show? That-" Aggrol was cut off. "Anyways, let me show you around. This over here is the library, where you can see all the records of the past players, and lots of other information. Over there's the viewing station, where you can see all the current contestants, and over there is the castle, where the Overlay's ruler stands."

    image

"Anyways, enough about the contest. As you saw as you came here, you can jump extreme distances. It's not quite flying, but it's pretty close." The bear looked as though he were finished explaining the Overlay, and then jumped off to somewhere else. "Well, this is an... interesting development. Turns out I'm playing some kind of game that I didn't sign up for. I knew because of those books back at the Viashino settlement that there had been others, but apparently it is some kind of twisted spectator sport." Aggrol said. "Let's try to find a way home. I don't want to be here for any longer than I have to." "Ok. But first, let's check out the library. I want to learn some more about this." Sam requested. They traveled to the library, and after a bit, Sam came back with a large tome. "Everything you need to know about the Game" was the title. They read for quite a while. Soon after starting, Sean got escorted out of the library because they didn't want him burning down the building. Sam and Aggrol continued reading. "There's some fascinating stuff in here. It says that the Game started when one man had an idea for a new type of entertainment, and it just spiraled out of control from there." Sam said. Just then, Sean burst back into the library. "Guys. There's a mob of Aggrol fans out here that just learned that you are in the Overlay. I would suggest getting out of here. Fast." Aggrol looked out the open door, and saw at least a hundred people of all shapes and sizes clamoring to get in. "Hey, librarian lady? Is there a back door to this place?" Aggrol questioned. The librarian pointed him in the right direction, and he headed that way. The second Sean left the door, all the fans surged through the library like a wave. Aggrol, Sam, Sean, and the hydra burst out of the library, and saw another island just a few super-jumps away. "Quick! Let's go!" Aggrol exclaimed. They raced to the island, and jumped through the portal just before the mob got there.

They woke up on a sandy beach. Off in the far distance, Aggrol saw the faint outline of the tower. "Well, that was a lot easier than going over water." Sean said. They were still far away from the tower, but they were closer.

    End of Story Blurb

Well then! That was certainly interesting. Aggrol learns about an entire new realm called the Overlay. Here, his suspicions that this was some kind of game were confirmed, but he now also knows that the game is being broadcast. ( @Jonteman93 I wasn't sure how close you needed us to get to the tower, but Aggrol is probably a few weeks journey away right now.)
  • @Jonteman93 I think this challenge is probably one of the worst challenges you came up with, at least in my opinion.

Put creature card with base power of 0, 1, or 2 from your hand onto the battlefield. It gains defender and "Whenever you are attacked, this creature loses defender."

    Is my wording right here?
  • @DoctorFro Assuming you're putting it onto the battlefield, that would be:

Put creature card with base power of 0, 1, or 2 from your hand onto the battlefield. It gains defender and "Whenever you are attacked, this creature loses defender."

(If you are going to use this to flash in a blocker, it will still have defender because attackers had already been declared.)
