Forgive my ignorance, but what is this exactly? Is this a contest, a just for fun challenge, does wotc look at this, what is this...? Can someone take it from the top please thanks.
@sorinjace, have you heard of the Great Designer Search? It is a test thing that goes out every few years to find an amazing designer who wins an internship. Most of the people (2 of the 3) have so far gotten a full job or so I've heard.
I did I think a 68/75 just going in cold on the 2018 test, which is eh. The only question I thought was unreasonable was 28 (I get the intent, but I felt it was poorly worded, unobvious, And a Golgari Serra Angel would never happen given the color pie) and I learned a lot.
Also I got a kick out of some of the mock up card names they used. Those were great.
Anyway, I’ve always thought about compiling my card design techniques in a textbook of sorts to share, but due to my relatively low score on the test and just general awareness of my shortcomings in card design, I always felt it was too pretentious and self-absorbed to execute.
@sorinjace I would just describe this as a mass of information and data for helping people think like the designers at WOTC and be able to do what it takes to get such a job.
@Arceus8523 I have a hard time believing you came in too low. Your cards are highly creative and balanced and push boundaries while not cracking the color pie.
Thank you for the links, I'll definitely check them all out I just can't do it tonight I'm still woozy from my oral surgery I had today. I'm on this pain killer hydrocodone among a couple other things. I will be checking the links out asap though!
I think my knowledge of old school mtg may be low as well. My knowledge on old cards is great, but my knowledge on old mtg lore is not strong I've only been playing mtg since 2013, around the end of the avacyn restored set and beginning of return to ravnica.
@sorinjace Aww, thanks for the compliment, but I really did come in at a 68. It wasn't until after this test I even discovered Nuts & Bolts, New World Order, or State of Design (all unrelated to taking the test, mostly just things I found over time), so that may be something. It's also worth noting, I only learned the game in 2014, just before Khans came out, and only played in my first sanctioned mtg events, the last three Origins drafts and BFZ Prerelease (packed Gideon like a boss), in late 2015. I don't have a very big grasp on the old MTG lore or even the cards really, beyond the most iconic ones, so that's certainly points against me.
Oh, and @Ranshi922 my friend Alex on here he is ProfanePrince (rare he ever gets on here, he loves black anything black in magic) he is leaving for Tennessee sept. 21st for music college. He got some of his tuition covered so he is paying the rest. But before he left he got me windgrace commander deck and $30 worth of mtg cards for the trade we did awhile ago I gave him my book of cds to take with him I kept a few local bands cds and my own CD of my own music I made, but the rest he got. Man I got dark steel plate, hautli (the green and white hautli) Westlake Abby profane/prince land that turns into a demon, etc some cool cards for my commander decks. Jfoster90/soggycereal just got me and Aryanf bruna, light of alabaster. One for me to replace the one I gave Aryanf but it got destroyed, and the other for her to recreate her bruna commander deck for the 3rd time!! Murkknight5 (Allen)has the original bruna she owed him money so he got the deck for payment, lucky dude!
@Arceus8523 I've only got one year on you? Wow. It feels like you've been playing longer than me.

@sorinjace, I propose that we use the golbins vs merfolk duel decks (the ones with warren instigator and master of the tides or something like that!)

Yup! I’m a horrifically average high school senior MTG fan.
Yeah. I wasn’t even old enough to officially enter GD3. It was kinda disappointing.
