@Blazin_Biscuit That was the original idea (sans reduced hand size). Although I'm not sure how I'd make sure people would make a well balanced party. I guess one way that could work is making everyone sign up for a guild that represents a core party member (like the healer's guild). Question is, how would you represent classic D&D archetypes in mtg? Wizard and healer are pretty easy, but what about the tank? Or the rogue? I have no idea.
@MonkeyPirate2002 I mean, the groups could view each other’s decks before battling. Their wouldn’t have to be definite classes or deck types, but if you don’t have a balanced team, you are probably more likely to fail. In terms of guilds, we could have one so that people sign up to if their deck furfils a main part of that guild: like you would need to have life gain cards in your deck to join the healers guild. From there, if a team needs a certain kind of deck to help them in a boss fight, they could ask someone from that guild to join them before hand (so it’s like an easier way of finding the right decks in order to make balanced teams)
Uh, actually mr @Blazin_Biscuit I have run a mock dnd and all the players talked together for five minutes; after which they all wanted to be fighter dps guys. Took down the first boss in 45 minutes.
@Bowler218 don’t you worry, I’m a veteran D&D player too. Fighters are pretty good for swarming early game. But as soon as they starting encountering swarms or flyers, they’re going to have a harder time.
I'm planning on testing out how an early game boss battle goes with a green white healer, a blue support mage (draws cards for team), a red-black aggro warrior tribal, and a green-black rogue that likes to control the board against my man Micah, Malagentia's Finest.
Ugh, most of the heal spells only target you. Decided to make a custom card to fix that.
You guys think it's too strong? It's a lot of potential healing, but then again, healing in mtg isn't widely regarded as powerful if there isn't something to back it up...
I think there are rules for cards like most healing where it can affect a teammate. Anyway, if you don't let it's activated ability trigger it's passive, it might be balanced.
I think the healer in the team should have the ability to mitigate or nullify commander tax for your teammates. It gives him something flavorful to do other than just gain life.
@MonkeyPirate2002 If Hanhla is tapped when you cast a noncreature spell, it won't deal damage, because it says "you may tap Hanhla. If you do". If she's already tapped, "if you do" will be a no. @pjbear2005 Kariya is a 5 mana Blightsteel Colossus. @BorosPaladin What is counter strike? Also, the wording on Mixem is kind of weird. I can PM you the wording I would use if you want. @MonkeyPirate2002 Enchantments usually don't have tap abilities. I would remove the tap cost and add a once each turn restriction.
"I'm pretty sure you need to add in the clause "if Hanhla, Pyro Master is untapped," in the ability. Otherwise it may end up being she simply does 3 damage to any target whenever you cast a noncreature spell."
@ShaperKyon I know the wording is weird but I didn't see a better way to write it that fitted within the border. As for counter strike I dint make it, i'm pretty sure either FaithsGuide or LastJustice did but since I wont be using that creature you can forget it. ( The more I thought about it the more he seemed broken, triple strike is not a thing for a reason.)
Well, this challenge seems interesting. I'll probably work on some stuff with the express purpose of going in this in a while, but for now I have only this to offer:
I made him for a different challenge, but he seems to work here as well.
Hey guys, do any of you want to try and playtest against one of my bosses? You'll need a mono/dual colored commander that costs 4 or less and a deck of 12 nonland cards that cost 4 or less. You are allowed to use custom or official cards in the deck and have up to two copies of each card (save for basic land cards, which have no maximum amount). If you are going to use any custom cards, make sure to use DB as the set identifier.

Rouge: steal/destroy target X
What Bowler describes fits more into the archtype of a warrior, AKA a physical damage dealer.

Trostani, Selesnya's Voice is the commander.
