Music plane contest

Hey everybody, I thought it would be cool if if I held a contest, where people turn their favorite, singer, rapper, or band into a magic card.

Rules: Pick an artist that you like and make a creature or planeswalker card representing them. Use an image of them in the art.

I will favorite all cards submitted that I like, and that I feel represent the artist well. When I say I like the cards, I am not talking me liking the artist.

Comments

  • I will add my favorites into a set that I will make which takes place on a plane where music is the source of all magic.
  • Oh! I covered this one already without even thinking of contest potential!

  • I will give an example. By the way, multiple people can do the same artist. You should write a bit about them. Also list some of their most popular songs. Also tell the year they were formed, so we can tell if they are old, or new.
This is for Twenty One Pilots, an alternative duo from Columbus, Ohio. They were formed in 2009. They write songs about problems with the modern world, but make them so catchy that they can get popular so the message is spread. Some of their most popular songs are Stressed Out, Ride, Heathens, Car Radio, and more. Here is the link to their YouTube channel if you would like to try out their music. I highly reccommend them. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBQZwaNPFfJ1gZ1fLZpAEGw

I haven't made a card for this, because I am the contest creator. You should put your card here.

  • Arceus8523, is that for Daft Punk?
  • Can I do JTMusic? He makes raps about video games.
  • Oh yeah. I have an excuse now for making more music influenced cards! I have a set folder started already for this idea, but ill enter what i got so far. Ill brb! :)
  • Bowler218, I would prefer not.

All of these I made before I knew about this contest; i'll be creating new cards for this contest, stay tuned! :)

  • Insomnium is my favorite melodic death metal band. Ive not only seen them once out in cleveland ohio (btw my nerd came out i spread the word of mtgcardsmith out there at this show to other people cuz they liked my custom magic shirt i wore to the show) but i got tomeet 3 of the band members including their lead vocalist, (i made him as a legendary minataur creature on here actually, i will go get that card posted here in a sec!) Very nice guys and chill too. They are from Joensuu, Finland!

Stabbing Westward is an industrial alternative rock group fronted by vocalist Christopher Hall. Their album Darkest Days will always have a place in my heart.

Speaking of having places in my heart, ah... the mighty As I Lay Dying. This band has been through hell and back, and now is all about 2nd chances. It will be great to see a full length dropped from these guys soon.

AFI or A Fire Inside (or super oldschool Asking For It) have been apart of my life since i was 14 years old (im 37 now, sokeep that in mind.) My musical tastes grew along with these guys. Its incredible they still put out albums to me. Theyve brought me through some tough places in life. Ill always have a place for them in my heart as well.

Theres TONS more i havent listed. Before i got into magic i was heavily into music, so my music knowledge is rather extensive.

It's an inside joke cause KISS in the 70s people claimed was an acronym for this, and Psycho Circus was by far my favorite album growing up and to this day. In fact it was also the time I got into magic during the Masquerade block and thought of Journey of 1000 years playing Magic

  • sorinjace. I'm sorry, but I've never heard of Insomnium, but then again I don't listen to a lot of classic rock music. Could you tell me a bit about them and give me a link to some of their music?
  • sorinjace, is that art from Pathfinder for Why Are You Haunting Me.
  • Oh lol! Insomnium isnt classic its melodic europian death metal! Lol Here is a few links to their videos ive found on youtube:

As for the art on Why Are You Haunting Me, I have no idea. I just found it and thought the art was cool so i used it for the card! :)
  • I'll have to do Dave Matthews, won't I? Or Beastie Boys.. gee...
Imagine Dragons is an alternative rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Their first hit song, It's Time, was in their album Night Visions. Night Visions was also the album to have both Radioactive and Demons, two of their other hit songs. Radioactive was also played in tour (but not part of the album) for Smoke + Mirrors album. Their latest hits include Believer and Thunder from the Evolve album, and Zero and Natural from the Origins album.
  • Bowler, I love Imagine Dragons too, I am currently listening to Nothing Left to Say/Rocks from Night Visions. I hate the albums Evolve and Smoke and Mirrors, but love Night Visions and Origins.
  • Also I want to make a rule for this forum, NO HATING ON PEOPLE FOR LIKING AN ARTIST YOU DON'T LIKE.
  • I like all the albums, evolve could've been better. But my first concert was Smoke + Mirrors, and I sang along to every song. I had stiff going on when evolve came around though, but I had some fun listening to it on youtube.

Will be back to drop more entries. Don't close this or give up on it, it's a much needed contest! (Not saying you are, just wanted to let you know i enjoy this contest and don't want to see it go away anytime soon.)
  • Boweler218, I like Whatever it Takes and Rise Up from Evolve but hate Believer, Thunder and pretty much all other songs from that album.
  • I have an example card for Twenty One Pilots who I wrote about above in this forum. It is about Clancy, a character played by the singer Tyler Joseph in some of the music videos from their new album. There is a fantasy city called Dema talked about on the album, which is a city ruled by evil bishops, led by a bishop named Nico. There is a group of rebels called the Banditos who live in a valley outside the city called Trench, which is the name of the album. They wear yellow jumpsuits. Clancy is a man who is hunted by the bishops, who allies with the leader of the Banditos, who is played by the drummer Josh Dun. https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/clancy-savior-of-dema
  • If you don't get two of the jokes on this card, listen to these two songs from the album.

  • sorinjace, if I get tired of this contest and give up on it, which I don't plan on doing, than I might let you take over if you wish.
  • Cheers @urtar370 (holds up a drink to toast urtar370) here here!
