Story Arc Challenge *Big*

Welcome to my BIGGEST challenge yet! A challenge challenged by none other, a multi-set challenge!

With the Bolas Arc coming to an end, we might as well make our own story. This is going to be a big challenge so be prepared for the task.

The idea for this challenge is to make a story arc over 4 to 6 blocks. Examples: Bolas Arc, Eldrazi Arc

Each block needs to have a minimum of 2 sets (unless it's a core set) and a maximum of 3 sets. You do not have to create a whole set, just a couple cards to promote the set. What you need at least one of for each set:

One Buy-a-Box Promo

One Planeswalker OR Legendary Creature Card

One Planeswalker Deck Search Card (Doesn't have to be previously made Planeswalker)

One Card with a Niche (Ixalan Flip, Dominaria Historic)

A list of mechanics in the set (Maximum 5, Minimum 3)

A review of the set's story.

Bonus Points:

A Masterwork card for the set

A common, uncommon, rare, and mythic card from the set.

Due Date and Prizes TBD. Good luck and happy smithing

  • I'd be into this.
  • iejoifpaseoiansiofnesf WHAT
  • Are we sure you’d rather go with the two sets in a block system instead of the single sets system Wizards has currently adopted?
  • @Lujikul I mean, the only recent standard sets with one has been the core set and then Dominaria. Before that, there wasn't one since Origins. You could have one or two of them

All the recent ravnica sets are under the one set philosophy as well, actually. It’s been mentioned that there can be more than one set to a plane. It mostly makes storytelling more manageable.
  • excited to begin!
  • Might try this after the challenge I’m doing rn. Looks fun.
  • Are the mechanics a mix of Original and deciduous mechanics? Or are they all original?

    UNNECESSARILY DELETED
  • @korandangels You don’t make the whole set.
Just some cards to represent it.
  • @pstmdrn good. (I already have the whole story planned out.):
~Plane: Sukra is a plane of wild lands and small, arrogant cities united into a loosely organised democracy. The plane contains a few "Loose" spots where eldrazi can enter the plane, trying to drain all mana from the world. These eldrazi have developed some cults of humanoids who believe that the eldrazi can overthrow the democracy and let the rebels rule the wilderness. (The eldrazi are capable of doing this, but they have no reason to).
~Native Planeswalkers: The president of the plane is a blue planeswalker called Asav. He hates the rebels and is willing to destroy them if he could. In addition, a powerful eldrazi cultist named Hema is also capable of planeswalking, but believes her spark is a gift from the eldrazi and is unlikely to leave the plane.
~Visiting Planeswalkers: Bolas visits the plane pretending to be an eldrazi titan, confusing the cultists into obedience. The gatewatch arrive in set 2 after they become aware of bolas's presence. Kiora is notified of the prescence of eldrazi on the plane and investigates, getting rolled up in the Democracy's politics and then leaves again.
    ~Sets: 1:Sukra 2:Loose Zone 3:Doom of the Democracy.
  • Hey @pjbear2005 I made a set symbol do I get extra points?
  • @EnvyReaper sure, I like that idea

    The Kaldira Story Arc

    6 blocks

    Kaldira Block

Kaldira – Named after the only kingdom to ever rule this plane, Kaldira consists of predominantly white-based magic. In the kingdom, citizens thrive and prosper. Outside of the kingdom, however, a large threat brews unknowingly.

Arrivals of Sotastos – The large threat finally unleashes itself onto Kaldira. The Jarjahar recklessly obliterates all in their path, destroying towns, harvesting souls, and driving the kingdom of Kaldira in a panic. Can they fight this invasion off, or will Kaldira succumb to chaos?

The Second Life – King Balthasar seeks the help of the elder spirits. After seeing their power, he proposes for the surviving population of Kaldira to accept the ways of spirit summoning. With this new power, they shall finally push the Jarjahar back into the death forest.

    Dolberlain Block

Dolberlain – This plane is abundant in natural resources and magic. The crown kingdom of Vodia harnessed this power and became terrifyingly massive in terms of borders and raw strength. Little do they know, this power will one day come with a heavy price.

Cataclysm Collapse – The price has finally been payed. Vodia has been laid to ruin after immense natural disasters brought by their ignorance to the old scripts warning them of not harnessing too much of Dolberlain’s resources. The resulting Dolberlain afterwards consists of small tribes and an abundant of ruins.

    Journey Block

Journey to Dolberlain - News has spread to Kaldira of Dolberlain's existence. The new king Sarlov sent the army under general Polaris to Kaldira's natural planar portal. What will they find on the other side?

Mysteries of Vodia - The journey to find the lost relics of Vodia has been challenging. Tribal natives conduct ambush after ambush, and frequent earthquakes make the travels through loose rubble difficult. Not only that, but it seems that many other kingdoms have heard of Dolberlain's presence...

    Fourth block

All for One - The invaders of Dolberlain have undergone an all-out war. Kaldira's explorers attempt to fend off both the Halicus, a nomadic band of minotaurs from Dolberlain, and the empire of Portodeth, the society of the undead. Unbeknownst to all, something huge is coming.

Jarjahn Harvest - The colorless horrors of Sotastos find another natural planar portal on Kaldira from inside the death forest and send their harvesters in droves to Dolberlain. Can the explorers of Dolberlain put the quest for the relics aside and band together to try and fight off the Jarjahar?

One for All - The greedy explorers couldn't find unity and all were almost wiped out. Kaldira's exploration army is on the brink of defeat, and their current objective now is to find a natural planar portal and flee back to Kaldira.

    Fifth block

Spirits Restless - With the Jarjahar chasing the exploration army back into Kaldira, Borasantra becomes increasingly worried. In order to finally annihilate the Jarjahar from the multiverse, king Sarlov will have to summon every spirit in existence, but how so?

Final Stand - The Jarjahar have pushed through the farmlands, obliterated the slums, destroyed the suburbs, and are now pushing to the capital city. After summoning every spirit he could, Sarlov has used so much power he was launched into space. Can Kaldira fight without their king, without their general, and without any standing military force?

New Kaldira - The Jarjahar have finally been defeated for good. Kaldira has no more mortal citizens, for they are all spirits now. Borasantra takes the role of king. The new kingdom now stands. Kaldira is immortal. the rebuilding has begun.

    Sixth block

Edgerim - This plane consists of many different foreigners like Dolberlain, except they are not there for collecting treasure but rather settling in. A mysterious planeswalker named Sarlov crash lands on the central island, and a faction named the Scourge brings him in. They bring him to Farnik, their statue of corruption. Farnik corrupts Sarlov's mind and he becomes a general of the Scourge. Let's see how well the other colonizers will fare against this new threat.

Farnik Reborn - Borasantra enters Edgerim with their army of immortals to search for Sarlov. A plane filled with horrors lie in front of the spirit army, with Sarlov in sight and completely corrupted. The following battle will change the fate of Kaldira and Edgerim forever.

All is Complete - With Edgerim wiped from the multiverse, Kaldira is now army-less and again king-less. Without motivation, the spirits decide to stop rebuilding the kingdom and lay to rest once again. The final version of Edgerim is nonexistent. The final version of Dolberlain is the same as the second, except more ruins and no life. The final version of Kaldira is a peaceful plain of woodland animals, grazing cattle, and hints of a once great kingdom. The Kaldira story arc comes to an end.
  • So that's what I have planned, let's see what I can think of from here.
  • @Hergusbergus I would like to help in some way with the Edgerim block, if that's OK.
  • oh yeah also I have a huge set already in progress, Peace in Dumaran, 1,500 cards
  • @KorandAngels Sure, how would you like to help?

    The Keztern Saga
Block 1: Rise of Keztern (Large, small, large.)
Set 1: (Also called Rise of Keztern) We learn about the plane and city of Keztern, and it’s isolation from magic. There are still demons, ents, and all the like, but no planeswalkers. The city is like Ravnica without the guilds. It has 1930s technology with guns and airplanes and cars. It’s ruled politically and religiously by essentially a fake planeswalker, saying he has all the attributes of one, even thought nobody knows what that is. Though there is till some hope of magic with the giant crystal in the middle of the city that constantly spews energy.
Set 2: (The Spark) A single boy gets his spark. Seyra, the first planeswalker of this plane. He has no guidance as the Blind Eternities seem to finally connect this plane to others. Cults start to form around Seray.
Set 3: (Seen Eternities) Eldrazi vs. World War 2 weaponry and 3 planeswalkers. 1 visiting, hearing of Eldrazi, and the other new one just got their spark. The winner is not revealed until next set.
    Block 2: Utter Destruction
Set 1: (Utter Destruction) To the Eldrazi this time. Remember that first planeswalker, Seyra? Yeah, that was him. The entire plane/city is cowering in fear.
  • @Hergusbergus we both make the card sets for our ones, with links to the other person's?
(I will make a card called "Council's Influence" or something like that, but that's all the council will have to do with it, in case you asked.)
  • @KorandAngels I’m not sure I understand, are you saying that we should make cards for our sets, and then dm each other our cards to see if the card is balanced or broken?
  • @Hergusbergus I think he means you each basically make a guest card then put the link to the others set in the comments
  • @Hergusbergus I mean that I put my cards that I make in a set and put a link to yours in the description (You don't have to if you use a non-cardsmith site that can't do that.)
  • @KorandAngels hmm, these blocks are supposed to be an alternate reality, so I don’t know how this might go. I think it’s best if I can work alone, for the sake of your sanity and me challenging myself :P
  • @Hergusbergus Ok sure.
    (Smiley face goes here)
