Thanks everyone for their entries! Almost every entry was very flavorful and fit the contest theme. However, many entries just weren’t functional or fun magic cards despite their flavor wins. The five cards that reached the podium were both flavorful and functional while innovating at the same time.
The dark priestess is a hallmark of Arthurian Legend and you nailed it with your interpretation as a dark confidant variant. I think this card would play better if you lost life at you end step equal to the cards in hand, both making this a fun mini-game of “can I empty my hand” and balanced in the early game. Still, the concept you matched to the character is quite good! You get 1fave of your choice and 1/4 CP!
The flavor of this card is spot on! I love how you used renown to convey the Squire becoming a Knight. I also love the innovation of the renowned Squire searching out another, because now that he is a knight he should have a Squire. I think this is a well balanced and fun card. My only complaint is that Squires in magic have always been 1/2 dating back to Alpha, so this being a 2/2 misses on mechanical flavor a bit. Great job! You get an additional 2 faves of your choice and an additional 1/4 CP!
3rd Place: @Tomigon with Peasant of Camelot [91 pts]
I really like your interpretation of peasants getting angry/riled up if the opponent is more privileged than they are. I think this card is a little complex for a common and would probably be better as an uncommon that instead would get the same effect if the opponent had more than a certain number of cards (maybe 5). Still, this is a really unique and clever interpretation and makes for a great R/W card. Nice job actually making a functional, color pie acceptable hybrid card! You get 3 faves of your choice and 1/2 CP!
2nd Place: @TenebrisNemo with Mordred, Murderer of Dawn [95 pts]
This card uses the Dethrone mechanic both flavorfully and functionally, which is really cool. I love how all the card elements work together. I wouldn’t change a thing, this is a great card! You get 4 faves of your choice and 3/4 CP!
1st Place: @Faiths_Guide with King Uther Pendragon [97 pts]
This card perfectly encapsulates Uther's reliance on Merlin AND innovates in the clone design space, which is an impressive feat. I think this card is costed perfectly and matches the flavor extremely well on multiple levels. This is a really clean, awesome design! You get 5 faves of your choice and 1 CP!
Winners, please request your faves in this thread. @Corwinn, you may award the CP.
I didn't catch wind of this contest until yesterday, sorry I missed it @bnew07! I'll make more of an effort to get involved in your next contest whenever that is.
