    I would prefer for you not to scry, and just straight up draw a card. Da Vinci wasn't technically known for his intelligence, but for his creativity(Which is why he should be izzet)
    Also, the last ability doesn't feel very Da Vinci to me. Fun fact, the guy was known for leaving behind unfinished artwork.
    @The-DM, @ningyounk

    Edit:Perhaps return all arts?

  • What do you mean in the edit?
  • @LordTachanka123
    Here's the thing about this card:

    This card is more on the flavor side, while I did try to make it relate to both Claudio and da Vinci, I used Claudio's intelligence to fuel this card. In my opinion, Claudio is more somewhat intelligence than creativity. The first ability is obviously an idea (providing that you drew an art spell). The second is playing with the idea, the scry is for inspiration on the topic and the draw is the final product. Of course, as an artist, there is always a time where we fail, though we can use that failure to our advantage to come up with more ideas, with the last ability.

    Additionally, the quote also reflects with the last ability. I see the library and hand as the mind (see Psychic Corrosion, Mind Rot, Mind Sculpt, and Thought Collapse).
  • I just see the hand as the mind.
  • First up, who the heck is Claudio. Second up, I meant return all your art from your graveyard to your hand.
    And yes, Izzet would probably work best. Maybe give him a discover, and if he discovers art ****************
    I dunno. I think that it SHOULD be bicolor, and it should have either blue or black.
    @The-DM
    @ningyounk

  • First thing: he doesn't discover the art, he 'borrows' it.
    Second: That probably work, but maybe not to the hand...
    Third: Claudio is the Leonardo da Vinci echo.
    Fourth: I really don't like doing Bi-color PWs right now, because the golden frames aren't as polished as the actual cards, and they just look plain ugly too. I'd really like the Multi-color PW frames. then I would do it.

  • My go at Da Vinci. Not a joke @ningyounk.
  • @LordTachanka123

    I think I'm not seeing some images you're posting because I've seen an empty comment from you earlier, I don't see any Mona Lisa card, and I don't see a Da Vinci card from you >.<

    For Da Vinci, I think he's either core blue or core red, probably more blue. He can be mono-coloured or you can add any other colour depending on what you need mechanically. For logistical reasons, it's best not to make him more than two colours though.

    @The-DM

    On Da Vinci:

    Well, there are many ways to emphasise his genius. Here is an example:
    - This first ability would represent how he's doing things differently from others, he's a pioneer, what he makes is unique.
    - This second ability would show that he's a prolific scientist.
    - This third ability would play into the idea that he "cheats" a little by borrowing some of his ideas to other planes because he's a planeswalker.

    P.S: Don't worry about having the right frame, it's just conceptual at this stage we're looking at ideas but the images we post are placeholders so they're more appealing to read ^^

    On Blood Philosopher:

    We'll definitely explore some "As long as CN is your masterwork" designs at uncommon, yes ^^ That being said, you usually don't want monoRed to have small flying creatures, except maybe the occasional phoenix. Because I don't want to push the set into an artifact-matters direction, we haven't depicted statues etc. as artifacts at common so you can keep them normal non-artifact creatures even if they flavourfully feel like artifacts. It's just to avoid having half the creatures in the set be artifact-creatures without delivering on an artifact-matters theme that, I think, would be expected if we did that.

    On Claudio's Mastery:
    I like the idea of having a signature spell for Da Vinci, if we could find a character that was depicted in multiple illustrations, that would be especially useful for this kind of situations ^^ The design itself lacks a bit of spice for a Mythic legendary enchantment though, spending your whole turn 5 just to draw 2 cards at sorcery speed is quite expensive.
  • I see.
  • So I'll just make it not an artifact creature. Like an elemental, or a spirit, or something.
  • I don't want the planeswalker to not work in commander.
  • @ningyounk
    What source do you use to make it like that?
  • can you make Avinzi work in commander?
  • edited May 2020
    @KorandAngels

    While we can try to play around Commander's limitations, if we get a cool idea that wouldn't work in Commander it would still be the best play to use it, it wouldn't be the first time a planeswalker interact with the sideboard for instance:

    Karn the Great Creator WAR

    That being said, the specific design I showed earlier is just an example and it has a lot of problems, it wouldn't actually make it to the set as-is anyways xD Notably:
    - I'm not sure the first ability works, it probably needs more words and at that point it's not a loyalty ability anymore, it needs its own card, like an enchantment or something.
    - The second ability needs you to untap with the planeswalker still on the battlefield after you ticked it down to 2 loyalty or it doesn't do anything at all, that would be a bit back-breaking.
    - The third ability allows you to assemble any combo, it would win you the game on the spot 99.99% of the time so it's not particularly interesting.

    So, that card is not going anywhere near the set file anyways, rest assured xD But if we go the Wish route with Da Vinci, we can try to make sure that it can still do something in Commander ^^

    The-DM

    To make the nice-looking planeswalker cards, I use Magic Set Editor to produce the right kind of frame, and I quickly pass it through Photoshop to add the little details that go over the borders ^^ I actually did that card for Da Vinci one or two years ago, I just switched the abilities to stick better to what the mechanics have become.

    About Varezo:
    As I said earlier to The-DM, we don't want an Art tribal planeswalker because it's too parasitic. There are no other Arts in MTG (outside one card in silver border) so the planesalker would be too niche to justify making. It's ok if it makes Art, it's flavourful, put it cannot care about the Art type.

    About Ano Sila:
    I really like the idea of having a card for Mona Lisa, actually I might have a decent illustration that would go with her card:

    I like the colour combination you used, Mona Lia is associated with secrets because of her smile which fits Dimir pretty well. An Art lord could be an option but with all the famous artists we are considering in the set, I feel we could do something more unique with her cards, dig more into the secrets theme than the Art theme.

    Here's an example of alt-win card that would use the word "secret" directly in the rules text (it's inspired by Conspiracy), to give you a feel of the kind of stuff we could do:

  • Hmm, wording seems a bit off, but I can't put a finger on what.

  • One idea.

    Three ideas of mine.
  • Hey @ningyounk, I had an idea for a strange red mind control dance.

    (Cardname) 1rr
    Sorcery
    Switch target creature you control with target creature you don't control until end of turn.
  • Your cards aren't appearing for some reason.
  • Well then...

    I know that this is definitely crossing more lines than I thought existed, but the general concept is(I believe) good.

    Here's an interesting artist who has some animal art.

    @MonkeyPirate2002

    Yeah, I see what you mean about the phrasing of the Mona Lisa card, I think something is wrong with how I worded the "non-revealed chosen name". Notably, I believe I should have mentioned it only look at names that this specific card made you choose, not any name. It's ok though, it's just a concept to show how the theme of secrets could be translated into cards, you get the idea ^^

    @LordTachanka123

    On Musical fox:
    That's an interesting way of doing ramp, pretty original! I think it would work just fine as a monocoloured card.

    On Lizza, Secret Collector:
    I'm not sure I understand what the card wants to do, the second ability is confusing me. Templating it properly would be a bit of a nightmare as well because you would have to spell out on the card every single keyword that you're ok with her having with the first ability >.<

    On Polychroma:
    I don't think it would be very fun to play with, indestructible + hexproof can be pretty obnoxious on its own. The trigger also seems a bit over-the-top, at this point it feels like it's just "you win the game".

    That being said, it's not a bad idea to slot a card in the set with a 5-colour commander identity, most sets have one nowadays for Brawl purpose. An actual WUBRG spell is quite hard to cast, but with serran life adding mana of any colour maybe it could be a thing? I was actually considering "casting spells for a lot of different colours" as a light subtheme at uncommon anyways.

    On the strange red mind control dance:
    I like the idea, it sounds fun and original, and it's super flavourful. It definitely needs to give haste though. It's worst than regular Act of Treason so it would need to do something a little different as well. Could be one-mana for instance.

    Any thoughts? I'm going to make another one that's red.

  • @The-DM

    I don't see any card attached to that message, something seems wrong with the image embedding of the forum :/
