Play Standard With Your Cards on Untap.in

Untap.in is a website where you can play Magic for free on the Internet. There isn't a rules engine, but other than that it's great. But wait, there's more. It's possible to upload custom cards to the database, allowing the testing of custom cards. So here's how this is going to work.

Everyone who wishes to participate, submit to me up to two new or old cards you've created on Cardsmith that are of an appropriate power level for Standard. Upload these cards to Untap and make a Standard deck on Untap with the card code CSSTD as if those cards were in Standard. I'm not sure which cards I'll use yet; I'll have to think.

Also, make sure to post your Untap username. Accounts are free if you don't have one. Mine is Kintree.

So once you've done this, I will organize some sort of tournament with these decks to test our custom cards. This will give us knowledge about the power level and fun level of our cards, and it's the point of this. Most likely, the tournament won't have a specific time, just a list of matchups people should coordinate times to play. That could change though; this isn't set in stone.

TL;DR. Submit:
- Up to two new or old custom cards
- A Standard decklist incorporating those cards
- Your username on Untap.in
Then, we'll battle with the decks.

So who wants to play?

Comments

  • I'm interested in joining this, just a couple of questions and comments.

1: If anyone is interested in using it for coordinating matches, wants to discuss card designs, or generally just chat with fellow cardsmiths, there is a community Discord server up and running strong: https://discord.gg/SPUU8a6

2: If I've previously added cards to Untap.in under a different card/set code, is it alright to use them still, or do you want me to reupload a specific version with CSSTD?
  • @Red_Tower

    1. Cool.

    2. Sure, could you tell me that card code?

    1. One card I really want to use in a deck, to see what you can do with him:

    2. Here's my Feather + Aurélia deck with Garuda I made , I thnik I have to test it to see which modifications I have to made.

    2 Garuda, Feather of Holiness
    2 Samut, Tyrant Smasher
    2 Aurelia's Fury
    4 Samut's Sprint
    3 Reckless Rage
    4 Defiant Strike
    3 Lightning Strike
    3 Dreadhorde Arcanist
    1 Iroas, God of Victory
    2 Phalanx Leader
    3 Tenth District Legionnaire
    2 Swiftblade Vindicator
    4 Clifftop Retreat
    4 Sacred Fountain
    8 Plains
    8 Mountain
    2 Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice
    3 Feather, the Redeemed

    3. If you want to challenge me, my name is EmolgAn but i'm not ready before the 22. But just want to make an act of presence for after ^^
  • Neither Aurelia's Fury, Phalanx Leader, nor Iroas are in Standard right now. You could reprint one of them as your second card, but not all three.

Otherwise, looks good. Garuda is a great top-end for the Feather deck that looks fun!

Meanwhile, the deck I'll be playing is called Nothing Red:

    imageimage

    Creatures (20)
    4x Nothingness Elemental
    4x Fanatical Firebrand
    4x Ghitu Lavarunner
    4x Viashino Pyromancer
    4x Goblin Chainwhirler

    Enchantments (2)
    2x Experimental Frenzy

    Instants (12)
    4x Spike of Flame
    4x Shock
    4x Lightning Strike

    Sorceries (8)
    4x Skewer the Critics
    4x Light Up the Stage

    Lands (18)
    18x Mountain
  • I'd love to get my eventual nine-set standard (miiiiiight be able to have it done by the end of the year) onto untap.
  • Will work on a deck later, but here’s the custom cards coming to the party in my first deck.

    For reference

Luna (Whenever an opponent loses life for the first time each turn, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.)

Sol (Whenever you gain life for the first time each turn, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.)

Spike of Flames isn't too good ? If you draw 4 or them, you can deal 12 damage turn one without paying mana .

But ok , I'll change my deck later.
  • @EmolgAn

I think that's magical Christmas land. There is a 0.0071775% chance that you draw all four of your Spike of Flames in your opening hand if you're on the play, and a 0.014355% chance you have all four on turn 1 if you're on the draw. That's... really tiny. Now, I agree the card is too strong, just not for the "what if" of getting them all in the opening hand.

    That would be insane...

But then again, what are the odds of drafting fraying omnipotence, then drawing four double headed giant matches in a row through Fraying Omnipotence when you have only one in you deck?

(Just solved for myself. Two times in opening hand, and one time on my team’s fourth turn, and one drew due to 3 turns, but I would of drawn FO on my team’s fourth turn anyways. Odds of this happening? 0.0023160156, or about 0.232%. Many people say... I waste my luck. Not willingly.)

  • Is Untap.in safe?

I need to know because I REALLY want to do this.
  • @Tommia: I like your cards so far!

    @Dom_Rocks: Yes?

@EmolgAn: I think I'll modify Spike of Flame such that the ability is Pay 6 life, Discard Spike of Flame: It deals 3 damage to target player. In that case you can't go for the T1 12 damage and it is worse for the mirror and against other aggressive decks.

    @Je_Suis_Oluwa

    Thank you.

I will let you know once I have my cards ready.
  • Everyone, remember this contest? Everyone?
  • @Dom_Rocks, untap is safe. If the shittiest laptop someone can buy new today doesn't get screwed by it, nothing will.

@Je_Suis_Oluwa, wait... we only get two custom cards?
  • @Ranshi922 Here's my thought process: if it turns out that a mechanic that you've used for your entire deck is really broken or really sucky, there are still some normal cards to even it out with other decks.

However, if other people want to take the other side of this, it isn't set in stone.
  • I think that it isn't really all that custom... I mean, you would need two cards that already fit into a standard deck, filling in two replaced cards' roles and hopefully doing better than them...

Side question: What sets are still in standard?
  • @Ranshi922

My perspective is that we live in a standard with tons of viable decks. Just off the top of my head:

    Esper Control
    Esper Hero
    Superfriends
    White Aggro
    Mono-Blue Tempo
    Mono-Red
    Green/Gruul Stompy
    Feather
    Temur Elementals
    Mardu Aristocrats
    Simic Ramp/Nexus
    Sultai
    Orzhov/Mardu Vampires

So there are many options of decks for cards to fit in. There are also plenty of viable brews. So my perspective is you don't need an entire set to create a good deck based on a mechanic or something, you can use existing support.

However, if you have a different idea for a policy, then I'm happy to consider it. Everyone else, what's your take?

Answer to side question: Ixalan, Rivals of Ixalan, Dominaria, M19, Guilds of Ravnica, Ravnica Allegiance, War of the Spark, and M20. It's a big Standard. With the release of Eldraine, Ixalan block, Dominaria, and M19 rotate.
