Google Translate, Text Obfuscators, and Botnik Try to Make Cards!

edited August 2019 in Just for Fun Contests
Just so you know, this is not anything serious. Not even a contest, per say, but it’s definitely for fun!

Our goal as a community is to google translate cards, run cards through a Text Obfuscator or use a Web app called Botnik to make joke cards for pure entertainment and comedic relief!

Card limit is three a day.

Route One: Google Translate (5 to 45 Minutes, Controllable Results)

1. Take an official Magic the Gathering card or a card you’ve made, or ask permission to use another Cardsmith’s card
2. Copy all of the rules text in the text box, then paste it into a blank google or bing translate box with the input language set to English
3. Choose a random language and translate!
4. Click the arrows to reverse, wait for the translation back to English
5. Click arrows again.
6. Repeat steps 3-5 until satisfied
7. Copy and paste the new text onto a cardsmith card
8. Repeat for flavor text, type, subtype, and name!
9. Make sure to mark it as unglued with grey border.
10. You’re done!

Route Two: Obfuscation (5-15 minutes, Least controllable results)

1. Take an official Magic the Gathering card or a card you’ve made, or ask permission to use another Cardsmith’s card
2. Copy all of the rules text in the text box
3. Go to https://skaillz.net/obfuscator/
4. Clear the text box and paste in your text
5. Adjust the number of iterations to your liking. I don’t recommend putting it below default.
6. Click “Obfuscate”
7. Copy and paste the text onto a cardsmith card
8. Repeat for flavor text, type, subtype, and name!
9. Make sure to mark it as unglued with grey border.
10. You’re done!

Route Three: Botnik

Okay... for this, we’ll need to work together to compile the text of official and unofficial cards, and put them onto a Google Doc. We don’t need ALL of them, but the more the merrier

To contribute to the card sheet:

1. Log in to a google account
2. Direct Message me on the forums for the link to the Google doc
3. Read the doc for rules on formatting card information

To make cards with Botnik:
1. Once we have enough source material to work with, I’ll post a link to a .txt file here. Don’t see one? We’re not ready.
2. If it’s available, download the .txt file from google drive. (You will probably need a computer for this, but some phones and tablets work)
3. Go to https://botnik.org/apps/writer/
4. Click the tabs in the upper left
5. Click “Choose File...” under custom voice, then choose our lovely file, this_was_a_mistake.txt
6. Once the keyboard has loaded, type the header info (Name of card is)
7. You’ll notice some options appear below. This is a predictive keyboard. You can continue typing, or use the predictive keyboard to make a name.
8. Hit enter twice to make the card text using the Google Docs format (Card type is, card subtype is, keyword abilities are, etc. . Ignore unwanted categories)
9. Copy and paste the text onto a cardsmith card
10. Make sure to mark it as unglued with grey border.
11. You’re done!
